Any suggestions on what to listen to when the shitty vn loop music gets annoying? I usually shut it off after an hour or two and just play random progressive house mash-ups that don't have lyrics. Anyone have any other ideas? Nothing with lyrics please.

All of them. No, seriously.

Doukyuusei 1 ties a bit with Doukyuusei 2 in a couple of things. Kakyuusei has some very small cameos from previous ELF games. Kakyuusei 2 is actually quite enjoyable if you pretend that Nanase is the main heroine.

Perhaps the only problem you will have is that you make a comparison between Shiori Fujisaki (Tokimeki Memorial) and MIzuho Yuuki (Kakyuusei 1), but do not let that stop you.

But perhaps I should elaborate.

The Doukyuusei series are called Nanpa in China for a good reason. The MCs of those games can and may try to woo as many girls as possible in a small frame of time, ranging from 1 to 2 weeks. The difference between them is that in Doukyuusei 2 going after one girl will affect the ending or route for other girls later on (you can end up knocking up one girl).

The Kakyuusei series are longer games, spanning the length of a year, where the MC can try to chase one girl. Giggolo play is possible, but the other girls will find out.

>> No.12837099

>>12837064
All 4 of them are pretty great to be honest.
Even Kakyuusei 2 with it's issue, which can be avoided by ignoring Tamaki, really.
One heroine from Doukyuusei returns in Doukyuusei 2, and being the oldest of the four its art probably has the most rough edges to it.
Doukyuusei takes place mostly over summer break and Doukyuusei 2 over winter break.
Both Kakyuuseis take place more or less over the course of a year and generally take a good bit longer than either Doukyuusei to finish a playthrough.

>> No.12837127

>>12837099
On that note I can't help but urge anyone playing them for the first time not to use a guide.
It sort of cheapens to experience I feel, as you have much more agency and ability to explore the game. Sure, you might get a bad end or not even the girl you wanted, but it's not like that stopped our predecessors. They kept going and kept trying until they got the good end they desired.

>> No.12837138

The reason why abort like >>12838446 were common was because the industry wasn't big enough to attract any good artist. I mean, that 天使たちの午後 ~転校生~ is from 1995. 1995. That's when Eva came out. It's not like people had yet to discover how to draw anime or something.

She's a cunt, who leads an army of psychos who kill innocent people for the heck of it, but it's ok 'because it's part of the setting' and she doesn't give a shit, not to mention her sadistic torturing tendencies. Also has some of the shallowest and most obsessive love feelings ever, I've seen yanderes who had better reasons to want to fuck the MC with five minutes of interaction.
In general, she's just a terrible character overall but at least she's getting killed soon.

I finally got over the boredom the Yumiko route was inspiring me and just finished the whole thing. Small sum-up or my reactions for each ending, routes played in following order:

Amane:
Good End: "*sob* tear-jerkingly cliché but still beautiful and... painful at the same time *sob*"
Bad End: "Noooooo..."

Makina:
Good: "Yeeeeeeeee... er- wait a sec... What?! I don't mind the cliché "and they lived happily everafter" but the little extra at the end was uncalled for. So much for making Makina have the 2 jobs she wanted + having a seriously untrained frail teenager on such a serious job sounds like a terrible lack of sense coming from a serious organization."
Bad: "WHAT. THE. ACTUAL. FUCK?! They truly went heavy-handed on the shock aspect and that pretty much backfired, it seems."

Michiru:
Good: "Not bad but I really could have done without the ridiculous comedy at the end. Heck, shit should have stopped after
Michiru went back to her old self and had smothered the other girl.
"
Bad: "... Heck... I truly feel bad now... It is a good bad end, I gotta admit."

Sachi:
Good: "Heck! Now THAT's what I call a Good End! Totally love Sachi's smile and playful demeanor on the last panel!"
Bad: "... The shock aspect is here and my mind cannot fully register it... Looks like they did some good job here too... Poor Sachi ;_; Poor Yuuji too..."

Yumiko:
Good: "Meh... A little too conventional for my taste. At least, Amane's GE had some prolonged impact by making you follow the whole lives of the pair but here, it is the usual family thingy. I don't quite buy the father redemption aspect too"
Bad end: "... Wait... Is that supposed to be a BE..? I truly thought it was the GE when I saw it. And it's actually more convincing that the real good end."

The original Windows port is garbage--they re-wrote so many scenes and really fucked up the characters. I don't know what they were thinking with that. The censored console ports are better than that. Or the original DOS version.

In the end, it's probably not worth playing unless you feel compelled to read everything Sca-ji has written. Even Jako's route fell kind of flat for me. It has its moments, but it goes completely of the rails and not entirely in a good way. All the routes besides Jako's and Yuuri's are garbage and utterly pointless to the main plot, so it's best to just ctrl through them.

The pacing can be really horrible, Sca-ji is repetitive to a fault saying the same thing 3-4 times every dialogues, the first and second half of the game are so disconnected it doesn't even feel like they belong in the same game, though that come from most of the first half of the game being lifted directly from Tsui no Sora.

It's pretty foolish to insist that anything is purely subjective or objective, and I think that for the objective portion of judging eroge, the 'edgy' stuff like Muramasa and Dies Irae probably win out. This is why you often get people who act completely autistic about it and try to perceive eroge as if they're fucking connoisseurs - the subjective parts just aren't much of a factor.

This isn't to say that the subjective aspects can't be far more important to a particular person however.

Objectively better /= better overall.

Objectively better + subjectively better = better overall.

Simple right? There are definitely objective aspects to judging anything, but how important they are in the final result is entirely dependent on who is judging, and the thing being judged. Face the fact that a lot of moege are shittily written/drawn etc. and DI etc. are well written/drawn etc. It doesn't mean they are overall better, but in most cases, they win in the objective aspect. Yet, if you only judge things based on that you are more often than not a fucking autistic self-appointed critic. Stop acting like you are being persecuted by /jp/, it's fucking pathetic and just shows you are uncomfortable with your preference.

I'm a moe-buta and thought DI was complete garbage. It's about as laser focused on a certain audience as something like LxC. I understand why people think highly of Muramasa, well written story with a perfect ending and interesting themes in general. It's easy to appreciate. But something like DI? Completely unrelatable, wacky themes about transcendental concepts and a writer who is so far up his own ass that there is some kind of unnecessary flowery analogy in every line.
