Tell me about Celica. Why does she put the pins on her skirt? Is that how she remembers how many dicks she's encountered on any given week? Is it one pin for a blowjob and two pins for casual sex? Will she suck my dick behind the turntable if I offer her a pin?

What is this genre and why can't I find any info about it?

>> No.12797714

>>12797666
It's very much an IIDX/BMS genre like RECKLESS RAVE and that sort of thing.

I think it's mainly piano mixed with elements of drum and bass, electronic, dubstep etc. The BGAs, as you notice, will be mainly rendered animations of abstract objects.

2014 is pretty much a crapshoot.

>half the songs are U.M.U shit
>the few "new" songs have been sitting in 2013 already
>other 2013 songs moved to the 2014 folder to pad it out
>events released sparingly that just result in old console unlocks or oni charts

I think there's legit been only one new konami original for the entirety of 2014 and that's the awadori remix, which is depressing considering this is pretty much the new release. General consensus is that they just stopped caring.

Well, you see, I'm an idiot who cares too much about the game. I often travel out of town specifically to look for DDR machines that haven't been found and mapped yet (I meet a lot of people online who stopped playing because they think all of their local machines are gone, despite there still being a lot tucked away in movie theaters and such). I'm always excited to find anything older than max. I'm constantly enduring anime conventions for the sole purpose of hanging out by the DDR machine looking for other people who still have the slightest bit of interest in the game. I've found that there are a lot of them in my area and I've been trying to get them together into something resembling a local community.

One problem I face is that I'm in a PIU area, so there aren't any ITG machines (and PIU has its own local community already, but none of the 4-panel players want to make the effort to convert to 5-panel). That means the only machines we have to play on are a couple of SN and Extreme machines. If I had the software, there's at least one old Extreme machine near me willing to do rotating mixes. I feel like that's important for both keeping the game fresh. I've also met a lot of players who share my love for classic DDR, but obviously can't play it anymore.

So yeah, that's why I've been trying to get in for the last few years. Sows fucking hates the idea of their software being used on public machines, so it hasn't been easy.

Sorry for typing all of that. It's passed midnight, I'm tired as fuck, and I can't sleep. I'm going to bed.

I guess it's cool if you just like old software versions. Still seems like if your goal is to get people to play on public machines you'd be better off getting openITG or something. I haven't looked into it much, so you're probably more knowledgeable on this than I am.

I don't mind playing on extreme or whatever, but more often than not the pads are in unplayable condition at many of these small places. Of course, there are exceptions, but it's really frustrating to dump in 75 cents and die on a 7 footer because the left arrow has to be smashed into the floor to trigger or something.

So 50g microswitches, DAO buttons. I read at the time that Sanwas are more for the 'feel' and don't affect your play that much, unless you're very experienced, or something like that. I have not customized my springs, so I'm playing at 100g, from memory.

>Also this might sound dumb/noobish but do right-handed players have it easier playing 1p or 2p side?
I am right handed and play 1p. The FP7 allows you to take out the button panel and flip it upside down so that you can switch to 2p, but I haven't tried doing that. Your dominant hand and the side you learn on doesn't really matter unless you're crippled or something. I believe Dolce is right handed and plays 2p just fine.

Konami's biggest misstep with the franchise, in America at least, was dropping support of the Supernova hardware so soon. The reason SN2 machines are so rare is because official upgrades had a very, very limited release. What KonamiUS should have done was created a US-exclusive version of X that ran on SN hardware, as well as making the hardware upgrade more easily available.

If you want something more portable, the FPS is made to be closer to the KOC overall size but still lets you put the turntable at AC distance. I remember hearing about it a long time ago. Apparently, sows has versions of the early mixes that were hacked to completely bypass the security measures so that you don't even need a security bypass chip to run them. Supposedly, whoever created the hacks was worried about legal repercussions so he made it clear that they were personal machine use only.

I doubt Konami gives a shit about them anymore, but sows still chases off anyone who wants to use them on public machines. If I had a sows account, I'd just go ahead and leak the damn things.

>> No.12811581

>>12811521
No. You will have a reasonable advantage at reading notes compared to new players, but your hand eye coord is likely to be fucked a bit because you arent used to using 7 switches and a TT. I also came from osu, albeit its Taiko mode, as well as the Taiko arcade game and actual Taiko drumming. You will have to relarn pretty much everything.

Bear in mind that i play, i believe, quite differently to some other people in that i move my hands around alot rather than simply resting them on the keys as if i was playing (for example) stepmania on a keyboard.

Reading carries over to an extent. Timing may feel different and you need to adjust to that. You are also using your thumb to hit the middle key on a keyboard, but on a controller you would need to use your index finger. The scratch lane also acts as a hand displacement so you are forced to move your hands a lot more and move your hands around the keys.

>> No.12811983

>>12811521
I'd say no based on personal experience. I was really good at DDR and got up to 8s playing IIDX on a keyboard and I still had to start from near zero when I got a KOC. Shits much bigger than I expected. Takes a lot of getting used to with hand placements and pinky scratches and all that.

I think NAOKI is quite a few steps above BMS artists. Only BMS artist that is really professional is Onoken. Someone like SHIKI sometimes has great melodies (Sepia is gorgeous) but his mixing is terrible... Look at a parametric EQ and it's a hardwall in the high ends (a problem in a lot of Japanese amateur music I've seen). SHIKI really embodies "BMS Syndrome" in a lot of ways with a great deal of his music (Cold Breath and songs like that immediately come to mind). I think in general the addition of muzie artists like Oster Project and Onoken are a good thing but in house artists like Ryu etc are sounding more like BMS music: 170+ BPM stuff where the music isn't necessarily musically interesting but can be complicated to play (trills, gimmicks etc). I don't think that anyone can argue that something like Bad Maniacs has a melodic emphasis/inventive chords.

Honestly the game really started to degenerate around Lincle in terms of music quality and variety. Pendual is definitely a step in the right direction but still has the same problems soundtrack wise that the last 3 games have exhibited.

>>12820101
Read the above. Colloquial speech for a trend.

>> No.12820346

Why are people throwing out "BMS music" as if it was a genre? It's just as bad as people labeling songs as j-core.

SHIKI and onoken are OLD and don't even make BMS anymore. They're pre 2009 old.

Stop comparing the two. Just because you played bof packs blindly and aren't familiar with the new artist doesn't mean everything is bad.

I'll admit a good portion of it is bad, which is inevitable, but some songs are so good which keeps me coming back to LR2.

I would love Doujin artists to get some of their music in IIDX. There's no disadvantage to having them produce content, that I can think of immediately anyway, and I'm sure there are plenty of Touhou fans who play IIDX.

Personally, I really would love 隅田川夏恋歌 to be in IIDX, but I'm trying to get into DDR, hopefully I'll be able to get a foam pad.. I feel as though the music available in a game influences my enjoyment and willingness to play; I'm grateful that IIDX has plenty of songs I have enjoyed before (smooooch etc) and others I have come to love (Love BBB etc).

Also, a question; Is Slake one of the 'master' musicians? I get the impression Dirty Androids is kind of the 'cool kids klub' for the best rhythm games artists, and Slake seems to be part of it appearing on a few of their releases.

I really love his music. Since I started playing early this year, I've grown an appriciation for 80's-esque music, which seems to fit him perfectly. It's music that I believe can be described well simply by calling it 'cool'.

As I just said, I only started playing earlier this year. What is the cause for the evidant distaste for modern IIDX music? I have a vague recollection of this discussion occurring 1 or 2 threads ago and saying that it's progressing too much towards synthesized music, the type you encounter in BMS.

>What is the cause for the evidant distaste for modern IIDX music?

A lot of the older classic bemani artists like the ones listed here >>12820574 either left completely or went freelance so you rarely see their music anymore. Lots of doujin artists have become mainstays now instead.

Don't get me wrong, I love guys like usao and noriken and shimamura, but older iidx and newer iidx are definitely distinct in terms of overall soundtracks. A lot of the older soundtracks leaned more to slower kinds of songs, rnb, drum n bass, rave, stuff like that whereas newer soundtracks lean way more heavily towards fast, j-core kinds of songs.

I see what you mean, especially in the genres tending towards quieter and slower music compared to the 170-200 we mainly see. The majority of songs I like from the more modern games hover around 185; Evans, Anisakis, Smooooch etc.

I'm nervous, in a way, to explore some of the older games folders when I look through. I find the songs notably hard harder to play than the modern songs, I don't know what it is about them. I might start up the game soon and play some of those older ones now.

I suppose it sort of reflects what the popular, semi-mainstream music is at the time though. I imagine hiphop and RNB music was seen as quite cool and new in Japan at the time those games were made, so the musicians were interested in exploring this relatively new style of music.

>>12820687
I imagine most of the people replying to me have been playing for longer than half of my life then. I think the modern definition of house music seems to differ alot from the older type, but maybe it's me comparing across cultures. And yeah, I do agree that most of the music from the recent ones seems to be tending towards faster music.

I wouldn't say that I have an explicit love for dubstep, but I think there are a few gems that are nice. Most western dubstep seems to be very brosteppy and it's a big turn off, but I feel as though tracks such as some of the ones on AD:DUBSTEP are nice.

>>12820660
That's quite surprising, to be honest. I got the impression it was sort of an invite-only group of the top notch musicians that have been involved in the rhythm games scene at some point. I think it's cool that it's one guy working with a bunch of others though.

Pretty sure that, for complex patterns (like say a quick 6-8-6-8 while your left hand, and maybe the heel of your right hand, is busy with something else), you need to use your fingertips in some cases. So that's where I wish the switches weren't clicky. But for easier stuff it doesn't matter much. And maybe for the fingertip stuff, I just need to develop my skills more, so that I can do them with hands rather than fingertips.

When watching skilled players, I don't seem to see them using their fingertips, but maybe I'm not watching closely enough.
