Connection isn't very strong but a hint is a hint, it shouldn't be too obvious. Ashigara really captivated me with her battle cries, no other girl is as eager to fight vs Abyssal Fleet as her. Also if the flagship is a non-Kai CA or a Kai CL and the rest are 3 Kai/Kai 2 CAs and 2 Kai/Kai 2 CVs, the flagship has a 15-25% (so around 20%) chance of getting MVP. It's not bad.

I managed to get that attacks that should have sunk a girl would cause the game to truncate the damage she takes to 50-80% of her max HP, but it doesn't seem to say anything about attacks that exceed 80% of her max HP but wouldn't have actually sunk her (so her HP would have been left at less than 20% HP).

And from personal experience the 50-80% thing doesn't work if the enemy attack's a crit and is sufficient to sink her; she'll end up at 1 HP even if she has 100 morale.
