Poll: http://www.poll-maker.com/poll191280xd66249b2-7
Please keep in mind that this poll is not intended to know "everything otaku you have a bit of knowledge of", but to know only "what otaku stuff you know the best" and "what you spent the most effort/resources on".

Just like being a great polymath is becoming increasingly difficult or even impossible, I've been thinking for some time now that knowing extensively every facet of otaku culture is impossible nowadays.
This is something that frustrates me to the highest point, because I want to know everything and I just don't have the time nor the money to calm down my autistic side.
I also think that we now live in a world where most people have to be specialized in order to have a decent life, and I feel that people who have many different interests but no specialization are doomed to be ultimately rejected by society, but this is going a bit off-topic.

Anyway, how do you cope with this, /jp/? Are you unaffected and just take it easy while having a broad range of otaku interests? Or do you specialize in something and you feel the need to know everything about it?

KS fags would be the ones to complain if they didn't see it in the list.

I was only able to mark off /jp/, Kantai Collection, and Touhou Project. I know quite a bit about lots of others but nothing even approximating expert knowledge.

It's ok, I put every thing that went through my mind and there is obviously stuff that some people won't know about, but there will also be stuff that I most likely won't know and that you can add with the "Other" option at the bottom.

You can check "Other doujin music" for 同人音楽 in general. It means other than denpa and vocaloid.

You cannot be specialized in being a little girl otaku. You just are or are not.

>Are you unaffected and just take it easy while having a broad range of otaku interests? Or do you specialize in something and you feel the need to know everything about it?
To be frank, I'm not interested in most of the things on the list even in the slightest, but otherwise I go all in at least for a time in the things that do interest me.

I mean an otaku with little girls and things related to little girls as my primary hobby.

I am so tired of having my identity erased by thoughtless poll takers.

I'm surprised you forgot the dollfags, they've been part of the board for a long time now. I didn't throw it in myself because I'm not one.

Yes. If we took the "obsessed with something" definition, the poll would be too broad. I tried to stick with an "otaku" meaning more close of "what is generally discussed on /jp/" + what people generally refer to when they say キモオタ.

That's what I meant by OP's definition being very western, your run-off-the-mill western weeb wouldn't consider those topics too interesting.

I think /jp/ has a lot of people like this. Nobody really mentions it, but once an off-topic discussion on niche interests gets going, you get at least a couple of people with in-depth knowledge about it, no matter what the topic is.
