Share edition! Share your latest dakimakura cover.

What do you prefer? Peach Skin/2 Way tricot? Bootleg / Official art? 150cm/160cm x 50 cm?

Any tips or recommendation for new buyers?

>> No.12656944

If you're buying bootleg from somewhere like aliexpress, and you don't see the size or material that you're looking for, ask the vendor directly.

I sent a message to one about a daki, and received a reply in about ten minutes. Chinese people are mysteriously prompt.

May or may not cause cancer when used. I won't know for about 10 years.

Bought an official cospa smooth cover and got way less than I expected. The top one is the doujin one I ordered a couple months ago (http://mall.fc2.com/item/usagigoyakikaku/35/ is the original, I got it through mandarake) and the bottom is the official one that was re-released recently (http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10230952).).

I guess the difference in MSRP reflects that, but I only paid 7k for the doujin one so I kinda feel like I got ripped off. The print quality is really not good and it's not very smooth at all. Hobbyheart's feel much higher quality, and the doujin one from うさぎごや is fucking unbelievably silky and cool to the touch. It's enough to make me regret preordering the NGNL releases coming out soon.

Ignore the top one being kinda dirty, I took it off specifically so I could clean it.

If this is any indication of cospa's average quality, hobbyheart blows them out of the water. This is the shinobu I ordered from them, it's not anything really amazing like the うさぎごや one but it's damn good for how easily accessible it is.

Has anyone here bought the Achobby ones and can compare them to hobbyheart? I know a couple things were linked on alibaba as well, I'd like to try out some other vendors but if I get crap like the official one again I'm going to be really disappointed.

Depends on maker really. From the covers i own:

Takumimakura covers are good quality. CranCrownBlack are ok but the fabric is on the thin side.
Hobbystock: Nice and heavy fabric
Noble Aster: Good heavy fabric but my cover has a orange hue over it. Also its shitty 150.
Cospa: Print quality is ass but the smooth knit material they use is a hell of a lot more durable than 2 way tricot. (Pic related. My first 2way tricot cover after about a year of use. It lost most of its softness and looks like that)

Also dont be too blinded by material choice as a quality check. I have a cover that came with some ero game. Its 2way tricot but the fabric is paperthin.

It's not like Chinese ones are dirt cheap or something. A 2WT shipped is going to cost you $80, easy. The only thing that makes the doujin ones more expensive is the proxy services necessary.

Doujins are fine and if you buy them through Tora/Melon etc. of course you're supporting the artist and if doujins use some series it gives more popularity to it usually, then people will buy that series too it's win+win situation for both, doujins aren't going to cut the anime series sales.
It's not the same situation with bootleg dakimakuras, I don't think you should be the one to choose how much money "they deserve" money for their art, and if you think they don't just print it elsewhere for cheap.

Not fully understanding either.

Assuming the original maker/circle was Japanese:

The original artist created the work. All works have automatic copyright status and a right to profit from it. A third party dirty chinaman stole the image or recreated it from a scanner, and then proceeded to make money from it. None of this money is ever seen by the original creator. It's art theft.

They are not providing an alternative or better service. They are stealing work.

>>12691827
Official Cospla dakis can be underwhelming compared to doujin circles, but that has nothing to do with bootleg v legitimate; it's just an issue with some companies using subpar manufacturers. For example omegastar dakis are amazing.

>> No.12692080

>>12692042
>They are not providing an alternative or better service. They are stealing work.
Who gives a shit? If the official dakis are in such limited stock that it's impossible to get them after the initial release then it's their own problem. They're free to keep making these and selling them, but they choose not to. We still want the product so we look elsewhere, that's the biggest reason piracy is a thing:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/114391-Valves-Gabe-Newell-Says-Piracy-Is-a-Service-Problem

I have zero sympathy for anybody claiming theft of their work or lost revenue because pirates are filling a gap in the market created by the creator's own refusal to sell their work.

Let's be clear here, if the official version was available at a higher price I would buy it, because I don't want to go through some questionable chinese company to get something. But it's the only choice, and I really want the product, so I give them my money instead.

That being said the prices of some second hand daki's are fucking retarded and a big reason bootleggers are doing so well.

I have tried emailing the artist.
I'm actually trying to get a custom illustration drawn for my first daki, I emailed the original artist but he hasn't responded so I think he's just too busy. I'd be willing to pay a high price for him to draw it but at this point I don't think it will be possible as he's get a regular release schedule for his manga that he probably has to meet. Without even so much as a response from him saying "I'm too busy" or "go away you filthy gaijin" I can only guess.
But I really want a daki and the only ones that exist of this character are shitty quality art drawn by blind chinese bootleggers, or good quality art that's WAY too lewd. So I'm approaching artists on pixiv to draw what I want.

I'd like to have the original artist do it, mainly because of the quality of the art more than wanting to support him, but I don't think he can or will do it.

also you'll probably want more than just one question, if they don't explicitly say they're taking commissions you first need to ask if they do. then when you've established they do, you'll need to ask if they're willing to draw a daki of the character you want, again they might not like the source material or be able to draw in that art style or maybe they just hate you. then you'll need to give details of exactly what you want (pose, clothing, level of lewdness, etc.), and you'll need to ask them how much they as payment, and they might do a rough sketch first and ask you to confirm it's what you want. they may need to end up translating quite a lot

Drawing is a long-time acquired skill and it takes a long time to produce quality art. I'd expect artists of Noodle's caliber will spend somewhere between 25 to 50 hours on a daki total - two sides plus variations. If you divide $1000 by 50 hours, that's only $20/hr, which is not all that great for a skilled work. At $40/hr you're approaching acceptable levels for an art pro. If, by chance, you commission a character that's not sellable - an obscure or unpopular character, or somehow you want to retain rights to it so that the commissioned work can't be mass produced, then that's it as far as money goes.

I'm sure if you're going to commission Saber/Miku/Boats they'll give you more leeway on the cost.

>> No.12693564

>>12693418
Well the character I want is fairly popular, but the artist likes to sexualise her a lot and I want a completely non-lewd daki that isn't sexualised at all. So while it could be mass produced and sold commercially (and I don't really mind if it is) I'm not sure how popular it would be since the fanbase might all be a bunch of perverts too and not want a non-lewd daki.

I don't want a character like Kurumi with some stupid chuuni dress with insane amounts of details, I want a normal character wearing very simple clothes, it really would not be that difficult or time consuming to draw what I want compared to some of the stuff I've seen though, so if they tried to make me pay top dollar I'd tell them to fuck off.

Also Noodle since is Chinese, $20/hr is probably pretty good there.

When I've ordered on Evening Call I've had to write in the comment sections of the order asking for a PayPal invoice. Then it's hit or miss if they ever respond... sometimes they're really bad at it...

I had a dakimakura that they never shipped to me and I kept trying to contact them over like a 2 month period asking why I hadn't gotten it yet. FINALLY after 2 months they responded "oops, forgot you paid for you cover, we'll ship it next week."

Their customer service was horrendous... but they make good covers.

Pic related, it's the cover I paid for and almost never received.

The shipping is absolute rape so you're probably better off getting one from the US. The full 100 you blow on a $40 pillow just to ship it can probably get you a better feather/down one domestically. I've never actually imported a pillow before though, so take that with a grain of salt.

>> No.12720160

>>12720138
Forgot to add, if you want a pillow domestically look in local stores like Bed Bath and Beyond, Sleepy's etc. for a 60"x20" (if you actually manage to find one with those exact dimensions you should probably buy a lottery ticket next, they're usually 54"x20" or lower for some reason) or from sites like unitedpillow or royalpillow who let you enter custom dimensions. They still have rape shipping because they're pretty heavy items, but much less though that importing and you have a better selection. You could also sew your own pillow if you have a sewing machine, I've heard they're not particularly hard to make. Just don't get those dumb ebay ones or whatever, your money's better spent elsewhere even if you just want a cheap pillow.

Legit ones are usually sold at events (Comiket and the like), through shops (Toranoana, Melonbooks and so on) or directly by the artists/circles on their websites. You can also find many older ones on Mandarake (usually unopened, hence new), it's a matter of luck. Sometimes circles can still accept orders even for old ones, but most are sold out and hard to find.

Also, since we're on the subject of bootlegs there's a definite quality loss between the real image and bootleg image. Since the cover needs to be redrawn by an artist, they usually skimp or don't get things quite right.

Here's an example I have of both a bootleg I own and the real cover. It's actually a pretty good bootleg (not all bootlegs are equal), but it illustrates the difference.

I'll let you guess which one is legit and which is the bootleg, because I've ironically found people who thought the bootleg looked better. I think the difference is pretty obvious and the legit one is clearly better, but let's see what you guys think...

Notice how on the left the skirt and the bed sheets have this "soft" shading and look as if they've been meticulously painted. On the right, the lines are much more "harsh." The cotton balls are also a good indicator, as they are far more detailed on the left than right.

Since comparing bootlegs to their original is fun, here's another. This one illustrates the difference between bootleggers and the original. I can't do a blind test on this one because there's no unwatermarked version so I'll give you that the far left is original, middle is a random AliExpress bootleg, right is a HobbyHeart bootleg.

Noticed how shitty the HobbyHeart bootleg is in comparison to the AliExpress one. The difference between the Ali bootleg and the real one is so subtle, you almost need to overlay them to see the difference.

Last one. Same as the Asuna daki, original is watermarked with a real copyright. This one compares two bootlegs to the original. Found each off of AliExpress.

Also worth noting is that even if you find a bootlegger with a good image, that doesn't mean they'll have a good material. I've got a few bootlegs with material nearly on par with my real A&J 2-Way Tricot covers, and a few bootlegs with material so shitty, it feels like sleeping with sandpaper to your face.

Don't trust reviews either. The shittiest 2-Way Tricots I've gotten were from one of the most peddled bootleggers out there (JaneLee922).

I used to buy only bootlegs, but I stopped once I started realizing how severe the quality difference can be. Of the 20 covers I own, 11 are bootlegs and 9 are legit. I may buy more bootlegs in the future, but I generally try to avoid it now.

Of course you'll need a proxy/forwarder, its cost is going to add up but honestly not really that much. With BiJ or JSS it's just a measly 500 yen fee. The fun part is buying it yourself navigating through moon. Tora also endorses some sort of partnership with Tenso: http://www.toranoana.jp/info/shop/tenso/english.html?nojp
Or you can use a proxy who will buy it for you for a higher fee (typically 10%).
I did the purchase myself, overall it costed me €107 including intl shipping. I bet it's worth every cent, can't wait for it to arrive.

Shit, I didn't think of doing this. Comparing one I just ordered to the original art there's some major details that are completely absent, and the colors are slightly different. Looking now, it's really shitty and I shouldn't have bought it. I should have listened /jp/. I'm sorry.

I recently purchased three dakis, one hobbyheart, one from ebay and one from this aliexpress seller:

http://www.aliexpress.com/store/534779

The hobbyheart one is still in the mail (shipped after about 3 weeks) but the aliexpress seller was here within 5 days.

The quality is many times better than the ebay daki as well. They are on sale for 40$ around half of the time from what I've seen. I plan on ordering more dakis from aliexpress in the future since I really can't justify 100-200$ for a pillow case.

No, trust me, he's right. While I love original bootlegs, it's almost impossible for it to not get damaged if you're sleeping with it, no matter how careful you are.

I generally use my bootlegs on my pillow, and my real ones as tapestries. I've "ruined" a few real daki's already sleeping with them.

It's an old official daki by Cospa: http://www.cospa.com/detail/id/0000021345
Material is 100% polyester, not even Smooth Knit (which is at least one-way strechable), so I wouldn't expect much from the original. You can find one here, terribly overpriced and not worth it IMHO: http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B000YEOVCA

Not that I usually endorse it, but maybe your best bet is to get a bootleg one on Aliexpress, I've found two sellers that offer 2 Way Tricot for $40/$56. Can't vouch for the quality, but at least it won't break the bank.

>>12736287
Breathing in their presence. But honestly, basically what body oils and shit like that. Even just the hair on my legs rubs against the cover causes piling over time.

The best way to preserve a dakimakura is not to sleep with it. If you do sleep with it, shower every time beforehand and treat the cover with as much as when sleeping near it as you can.

Man I'm just on a fuckin' roll with my English today.

Anyway, I've found the best option if you're going to get a bootleg is to try to find a highres scan of the cover on the booru's and send that to one of the bootleggers and ask them to print it. That way you keep all the original details and the only think that's lost is usually color quality (which can be partly corrected for using Photoshop).

I've got a few bootleg covers like that and they're clearly the best of all my bootlegs. You can also find tons of hires images online, but, obviously, it's hit or miss for a specific dakimakura.

This. Its amazing how much a daki has improved my personal hygiene.

Also beard kills the daki. Its very important to keep your fingernails in shape with no sharp edges. Same goes for your skin. Dried sharp skin can totally ruin a good petting. Consider swapping dakis regulary too if you have more than one.

I've been sleeping with my peachskin daki for 2 years and she's still in good shape.

You have to be careful around her but that's part of the caring relationship.

She has a couple of small frays near her calves and feet which I think is from maybe catching her with my toenails when asleep. Otherwise she is ok.

And yes you should shower before bed but I always did this before having a daki anyway.
