The shitty mobage is what caused iM@S to decline for my personally, one dimensional gimmick characters aren't interesting in the slightest and when they're putting so much focus on them it dilutes the brand. What is the gameplay of this series? Is it a management game? Rhythm game? Dating sim?

Mostly a management game with visual novel storytelling. Not really a dating sim per se, but it's similar to one. It also has a touch of rhythm gaming, but not much, at least not in the main games.

You basically set your idol schedule. Rest, vocal training, dance training and etc. Once you get their stats high enough then it is time to send them to audition. In audition it is just tapping the right button at the right time to win.

It started as an arcade game, but that's been dead for quite a while. The main games are only playable on consoles now, the newest one (One for All) on the PS3. No PC, 3ds or WiiU options unfortunately.

You can play some of the spinoff games on other platforms though. Dearly Stars is for the DS, and Shiny Festa (a pure rhythm game) comes in three versions for PSP and iOS. There's also two mobage spinoffs, Cinderella Girls and Million Live that are playable on their respective mobile platforms. There's some other miscellaneous titles as well, but these are the primary spinoff games.

As someone who disliked the majority of characters during season 1 of Love Live, I actually came to like most of them during season 2. That said I agree iM@S still has a better range of characters and music but it was worse as an anime and now that the franchise has been only pushing CG people who care about the original characters have lost interest in the franchise as a whole.

Cinderella Girls is on Mobage's platform, so anything you can get to run Mobage (or DeNA or whatever it is now) should work.

I don't play CG myself, so I can't tell you how to get it working on Android, but I believe it's possible. I have a friend that plays it via PC using Chrome and a user agent spoofer, so I know there are ways to play it outside of Japan, although I think it's bit tricky to do so. Also, as a warning, I've heard it's a big time and money waster (like pretty much anything im@s), so keep that in mind.
