Ogre Tactics, mom of Final Fantasy Tactics hasn't been mentioned yet? its an extremely good game with a really damn fucking great story. gameplay is kinda unbalanced and tend to be exploited easily once you figure out the op classes, but I've heard that the remake for PSP fixed this problem.
I also liked Ogre Battle on snes, but its a strange game, so not for everyone.

The thing I remember most about that game was the dragon boss before Surt that would assrape you if you let it live past three turns or something. I kind of handicapped myself by using an all-female team that I liked rather than a team that was mechanically sound. I could never get Arngrim's timing down.

Covenant of the Plume was alright, but I really disliked how characters actually died there and you weren't a Valkyrie that could save them. The Seraphic Gate was really fun though.

I recently beat Super Robot Wars UX on 3DS. It was cool. If you like mecha you will enjoy this series. There are lots of cool music, animation and sound effects.

OP should also check out a game called Soul Nomad and the World Eaters. It plays like a cross between a normal NIS game and Bahamut Lagoon. It's pretty average story-wise, but after you beat the game, you open up an alternate scenario that lets you be the villain, which is always fun.

Knows what it is from the get go without trying too hard to have some Game of Thrones bullshittery going on (no grand save the world plots besides a couple exceptions) and character interactions like Tales only more mundane and ordinary. Plus you're not stuck in a shitty set resolution by the console because its hardware can only do so much. Take the PC port of Valkyria Chronicles. It looks so goddamn nice blown up beyond 720p (the cutscenes are stuck in that resolution but it can't be helped.) and you get to enjoy near constant 60fps even in an average toaster. Consoles are seriously losing influence in each coming gen. Their only relevance now is its still tight grip hold on certain genres like JRPG's and fighters and even then they're starting to come around.

Demons souls is a boring, unfinished, uninspired kings field derivative with a less imaginative director who didn't really know what he was doing.

Dark souls was somewhat more realised and interesting, but still lacked focus and was generally uninteresting due to a huge rushed schedule.

Dark souls 2 is a polished, quality game that bought back core values of what makes games like this truly special, and I for one congratulate the team and Naotoshi Zin on accomplishing that.

Fire Emblem 7 is pretty fucking solid. So is Awakening, even though it might be a little bit newbie-friendly to start out with.
The thing is that since most of the FE games weren't released in the West, and that the series has evolved quite a bit, there isn't a "best" game out there. Anyway, the best way to play the series is to try a little bit of each era and see what you like. The GBA ones (6,7 and 8) are the ones I enjoy the most by far, mostly because of combat. The sprites and animations are just so much more satisfying to watch and play with than the older stuff which visually looks like shit and the newer stuff which looks bland and uninspired.

The original is mediocre as hell. It's an unbalanced sandbox where half the interesting classes are hidden behind grinding that only serves to overlevel, the interface is awful, creative level design of any sort is rare, and it's mind-numbingly easy. As long as you're below 25% of your maximum weight limit you're good to go. i-frames stands for invincibility frames which means you have x amount of time during your roll where nothing can hit you, this allows you to roll right through attacks. It's important that you have the fastest roll because not only do you get the most i-frames from this, but you also recover faster which means you can follow up with more attacks. There are various rings in the game which increase your weight limit and you might want to prioritize these as they would let you wear heavier armor while also doing the lightest rolls possible.

Don't listen to that other guy. You can DaS play however you like. Heavy armor, light armor, no armor at all. Greatswords, katanas, pole arms, bows, daggers, magic, miracles. If you're mostly gonna do PvE than most anything is viable, so just pick what you like and have fun.
