I also do not understand why artists should abandon Touhou because of something else, like a religion which demands that you only worship its respective god.

It is a positive thing when artists have more options to express themselves, and it will rather result in more and better content, not a worse and smaller amount.

However, Otaku culture will decline in general (at least in Japan, and the rest doesn't matter), simply because of the Japanese demography. If groups are disbanded and not replaced by an equal number, of course it will lead to less new content.

Maybe this effect can already be felt, and some people narrow-mindedly take it for a Touhou issue.

PS: ZUN dislikes the huge Touhou fandom, perhaps because it affects his private life. He said that he did not know whether he should make more games prior to MoF, but continued as the fandom did not get smaller as he hoped.
