You could always make one. I'm currently working on a hand-made carrier. I found an old suitcase on my country's version of craigslist for $20. The plan is to cut pieces of foam to a "doll" shape and fix them in the case, then layer some soft padding material and a layer of white fabric (probably silk or velvet etc, not sure yet) over the foam to provide a close fit that will hold the girl in place firmly during transport.

The suitcase I got was a bit short but plenty wide, so the girl in it has to take up a sleeping position on her side with her legs pulled up, and looks quite comfortable. The lid has some extra space so I was going to add some small pockets and put things like a change of underwear and some doll-sized accessories (if I can find them) in it just to make it look cute.

If you spent some time scouring forums for sale pages and online used dealers like mandarake, you would be able to get a complete body sans head for $300 relatively easily if you're not super picky about its specs. But you really will struggle to get a painted head and still be under budget. Even if you got a blank head, unless you painted it yourself you'd have difficulties. US$500 would be very nearly enough for a brand new DD standard model, complete with a painted face and one set of clothing.

"box damaged" to Mandarake means a 1 mm crease in a corner. It's nothing to worry about.

Stains are either from the clothing (fabric dye) or the wig. All stains can be removed quite successfully by using a product called RemoveZit, meant specifically for removing fabric stains from vinyl dolls.

If there are pictures of the doll itself, then you know what your getting. If they didn't put up any pictures of the doll, you should e-mail them and ask them some time to get back to you (cause English), but they're usually pretty good about that kind of inquiry.

If you're looking for outfits on Dollfieworld, try google searching the name of the outfit. You should be able to find an old Volks product page which will list the dolls the outfit will fit.

For Dollheart, the DD outfits will fit, but they may just be a little loose. Avoid outfits with pants, which may be too big in the waste for DDS. Dresses, button-down shirts, corsets, etc. should be fine.

Do any of you have anything to say about Azone's Pure Neemo Illya doll? I really like the character but there aren't really any good looking figures with her in her regular outfit, so I was thinking I might save up some money and try to get one.

I've never bought a doll before so I can't tell if it's bad or whatever, so it'd be great if you guys could give me some opinions about this figure, or the Pure Neemo line in general.

Pureneemo have pretty finnicky joints, ugly necks, painted/decal eyes and are generally mediocre in general. Posability isn't so great, either. It's probably the only 1/6 illya you'll get though.

There's the MDD Prisma Illya, and an older MDD H/A Illya (but the face isn't so great on that one.) if you're interested in a bigger doll. (1/3)

If you are set on the pureneemo, I'd recommend getting a pureflection body for her and swapping the head and clothes over so you can pose her better.

Obitsu 50 bodied Azone dolls have improved in quality immensely in recent times. Whilst they still do have decal eyes, they are of a pretty good quality and the Obi50 body is, in many ways, superior to the DD body in terms of articulation.

I can get that a lot of doll owners don't like decal eyes and that's fine, but they aren't as bad as some people make them out to be. Azone dolls are marketed much more towards fans of the character each doll represents. So instead of bringing home a Madoka and making her someone else, you turn her into a Madoka in casual clothing or a Madoka with her hair down and/or a Madoka being sexually assaulted by the Homura in a babydoll next to her.

Well, MDD Reina, the Volks standard model MDD, is around that price so you could pick her up right now.

With that budget, you can easily get a body from Volks, a painted head from Y!JA, and some clothing later on. Buying in pieces will help your budget. It's the limited models on the aftermarket that cost a lot.

The first dolls you linked to are customs, so if you want something like that you'll need to commission an artist to paint a blank head. As the other anon mentioned, DD forums is a good place to look for artists.

Kinoko would be a good first doll. Anything $200 or less is a fair "intro-to-dollies" price. Lots of people start with small Azones or Pullips. The Kinoko dolls might tough to get though. They are just about to be released and are in high-demand.

If you're positive you want a MDD, I would say just spend your money on that. You're going to need to save cash for outfits and wigs anyway.

Apparently they're recently a bit prone to messing up orders (shipping out wrong items etc), I had no problems back in may though.

I placed an order on nine9style today, I think their quality definitely comes very close to Volks but it'sa a tiny bit cheaper and they offer a lot more reasonable shipping options ($6 airmail instead of the $40 EMS from Volks..).

I own 8 Azone dolls, 6 of their 1/6 original series and 2 of their 1/12 Lil Fairy series. All of my Azones were made within the past 2-3 yrs so I only have experience with the newest body type. I personally think Azone dolls are fantastic, love the weight of the body, skin texture is matte and smooth, hair is gorgeous and silky. Clothes are extremely high quality and made with great fabrics and details. Personal preference here but I prefer decal eyes, especially on these small dolls. Glass eyes creep me out.

I also own one Pullip, Classical Alice. I was very disappointed in the quality of Pullip hair, body, and clothing in comparison to my Azones. I don't plan to buy anymore Pullips because to me the quality isn't worth the price.

Anyway, if anyone has questions about 1/6 or 1/12 Azone dolls I'd be happy to help.

Pullips used to be a higher quality before Groove took over. The ones made during the Jun Planning period are much nicer.

Not really a whole lot, no. Apart from controlling the light, anyway. Dynamic range isn't really easy to cheat with shit equipment and even with good gear.

...You could try using a photo processing program to smoothen the highlights / shadows., I suppose, but you should probably just shoot in better light or with a better camera, as processing like that will further worsen your images quality + chances are it won't make it better in any way.

Some of the bags say that they're SD size, but the dimensions seem awfully small compared to the Volks carrying case. Volks is 70/19/21, while the cheapest Dollmore one (26 inch Light Carrage Bag) is 62/15/15-- yet they state it's SD size? Part of the horror was realizing that I ruined something I paid for (faceup was part of the price after all). Plus, her is really great. Even if the head wasn't damaged (her face was discolored in the dream) I'd really miss it.

It does make a big difference in DDs, they often have very similar sculpts (at least in my opinion), but different faceup can completely transform them.
