i'm having trouble trying to decide how to tag this odenpa studio album
i have all the non drama tracks tagged as composer feat. vocalist (ex. ベイビー・レモネード feat. 安倍ようこ - ぴ・ぴ・ぴ)
but as for the drama track i'm a little lost as to what to do with it
would it be better to do it as おでんぱ☆スタジオ feat. よーこたん(CV: 安倍ようこ)
or ゆな(CV:なつき), みさき(CV:津軽りんご), かなで(CV:ねこめ), ドミソ(CV:ほたる) feat. よーこたん(CV: 安倍ようこ)
the second one seemed a little silly so i figured since it's just the 4 regular vocalists for odenpa studio i could get away with tagging it as that but is that just a wrong tag? idek
i'm just worried about how it'll show up on last.fm (not that anyone else scrobbles stuff as composer feat. vocalist anyway :\)

>> No.12645237

>>12645019
I'd just tag it the first way since it'd be easier to read. I don't see any reason to worry about last.fm since tags for doujin music are hardly universal anyway. Most people don't even care enough to fix tags.

Generally people put vocalist for the 'Artist Name'. It's comparable to the West in that most pop artists don't write their songs and are given all the credit outside of people who bother researching composers etc.

For consistency (e.g. last.fm), it's probably best for Track Title - Vocalist (for Artist). If you bother filling in the rest of the metadata, it's pretty straightforward.

Artist Name: Vocalist
Track Title: Track
Album Title: Album
Composer: Composer
Performer: Vocalist
Album Artist: Group/Circle

If your only concern is last.fm, you should just search the song title and see what the most popular tag for it is. You can also request the different tags to be merged, if you post on the artist page about it, eventually other people will vote too. If you want to tag the composer for your own reference, there is a place in tags for that separate from the artist. It won't show up in last.fm, but it'll be there for your reference.

i wouldn't say all non-doujin music is like that at all, it's really common to see a vocalist listed as a featured artist (maybe mostly in electronic music idk)
seems incorrect because it doesn't accurately describe which artists contributed to the track and if they're gonna do the thing where they just give a staff list for each track and not just an artist and title that's how i'll definitely do it
at this point i'm mostly just upset with how it's impossible to stay consistent if you try to follow how it is on the website/back of the cd case or anything since everyone does it different
and doesn't it feel like it's easier to be looser with tags with big label stuff since it's harder to find a site probably made by the artist with the track titles and stuff exactly how they intended it to be

To prevent confusion I wont use the term 'artist'. Everything will be clearly labeled as either composer or vocalist/performer.

I was thinking more of music released from actual record labels. A few examples would be US-Pop performers such as Katy Perry/Lady Gaga that give next to zero credit to composers. Or K-Pop where you only see the vocalist/performance group given credit for the song.

It isn't difficult to follow the back of the CD since everything is generally sorted/credited for each individual part: Lyrics/Performer/Composer.

Metadata fields are pretty self-explanatory. Artist field should be performance group (Ex. teamdmp and SHAKING PINK) or vocalist/performer for solo performance. Composer field should be pretty self explanatory. Performer field should list individual members for a group or the solo vocalist' alias. And lastly, Album Artist field should be Doujin Circle/Group.

Picture example is Unit/Performance Group D-RAM (in the artist field) which consists of Nomiya Ayumi, Ruou Ryouki and Nakae Mitsuki (all three in the performer field). Dee! is given credit in the composer field. And lastly AVSS (album artist field) is the Doujin Circle/Group. This way all entities are given credit for their respective role in the production of the song.

The FCC doesn't care about copyright infringement. They regulate radio transmissions, and if you're operating in a licensed band without a license, they will come down hard on your ass. but lets try to define it:
it is usually Japanese "pop" music - expect aimed at "otaku". it could be something else too though.
and it includes some elements of what is denpa - for this, you should know a definition, or it is easy to find.

over-the-top and strange are some things - superfluous maybe, but since we're not defining a strict musical genre, they're ok. but in particular, it should be over-the-top moe/"otaku" stuff.
so maybe that'd be it - over the top, intentionally strange moe / "otaku" culture music.

we could define it more exactly but then that'd just be "denpa according to a few guys who post on /jp/". not a very universal definition and certainly not an objective one, since things that are usually agreed to be denpa can't really fit inside a single genre.

>> No.12661581

>>12661525

The main problem with making a defiinition of Denpa is that it's allways changing. There isn't a group or vocalist that can be considered the founder or driving force of Denpa that can serve as a reference for it. Rather, Denpa is mainly defined by its main consumers, the Otaku crowd.

Denpa takes the whole universe of sensitivities the Otaku crowd has and makes a song out of it trying to bring it to the extreme, even to the grotesque. It's an exercise into the baroque of the obsessions of the Otaku crowd, mainly the Eroge/galge consumers. and also a parody of itself because most otakus know that their culture is based on the mirage that is moe.

In that sense, if twintails became the rage amongst the majority of the Otaku a song about twintails sung with an obssesive, exagerated tone or parodying way can be Denpa.

But once again, Denpa isn't defined by the creator but by the listeners so it really depends on you and your sensitivity to consider what you hear Denpa or not.

It's true though that some albums and songs raise great consensus among the comunity and are considered Denpa "canonically" thanks to that. Other songs and albums may not be considered Denpa by today's standards but due to the importance they held are considered classics in the Denpa scene.

Now this is useful. This is what should be on wikipedia.

As I thought, "denpa" is the "gameplay" of Japanese indie music. Or, it would be more accurate to say it is closer to the abstract expressionism of painting. Which is a shame, since burying itself into a corner only stifles its chance to establish itself as a style, which itself done to avoid criticism. Every denpa song I have heard can be tucked under the happy hardcore to speedcore categories. How do the denpa greats compare to that of its fathers? They sure don't want to know.

>> No.12661628

The denpa concept itself isn't related to music at all, so you should isolate it for a moment. I don't want to sound like a weeb, but it might be hard to understand for us foreigners since "Denpa" is a Japanese concept that most of them understand; but it's actually pretty simple. Have you met a person that seems to be in a different "wavelength" than everyone else? That's what you would call a "denpa" person, and a Japanese would recognize immediately and go like "koitsu, denpa da."

Denpa songs are songs that give you that same vibe. The Wikipedia clearly states "Common features of denpa songs include"; it's not attempting to define it but state recognizable common aspects, but it doesn't say they're what constitute denpa. A denpa song is just that, a song that is denpa.

We've talked countless times about this so there shouldn't be any more discussion about this. If you don't understand something you should be attempting to understand the denpa concept first and then you'll naturally understand what denpa songs are.

Also, the thing about denpa songs being popular in the otaku crowd and taking the form of exaggerated self-parody are common circumstantial things that developed over time and, while they're true, they're much older than the denpa concept itself.

Nobody wants Denpa to stablish an style. It's born and dies within the limits of the Otaku crowd because it's only intended for then. But anon, Denpa, as understood in the 80's and early 90's is not the same as what is Denpa in the Otaku world. The only reason that Denpa music is called "Denpa" is because the obsessive Otaku looked like a denpa person to the normal people and were labelled like that. Combine it with the rise of Akihabara as the main Otaku centre of Japan and you'll get how the term took hold even though Otaku have very few things in common with the kind of lunatics the people labelled as Denpa-kei are.

I hate to get in on this argument, but maybe if I explain things simply enough, some of you guys will finally "get it" and we can move on.

"Denpa song" is not a black and white concept. It's a degree of different levels of "denpa" in a song. How much of how many denpa aspects are needed to decide a song is "denpa" depends on the listener. Also, the idea of what is and isn't "denpa" changes with what becomes popular in music, and different cultures have different ideas on what is weird and what is normal.

For examples, look at the original denpa song site, "笑える電波ソングを集めるガイドライン"
http://sound.jp/dempa_song/

As you can see, each song is rated in different categories:
Degree of denpa, degree of moe, degree of composition, degree of addiction, and a free category that's different for each song, pointing out one funny or weird part of the song.

There are lots of common features of denpa songs that people point out, like weird lyrics, bad singing, etc, but ultimately, it's the sum of it's parts. There is no need for one song to meet all these traits. Having just one or two of them may or may not make the song "denpa" in someone's eyes.

The idea of "moe" making a song sound denpa may be a little old fashioned at this point, as mainstream music started to pick up these "moe" aspects in recent years. Before, it was considered silly and weird to put these pandering and cute voices / phrases into a song. I heard people say "This would sound so stupid in English", but you must keep in mind, it sounds just as stupid in Japanese to the average person. Only recently has this kind of thing become (a little) more accepted in Japanese culture, but at the time that denpa songs first were becoming popular in erogames, idols and cute music were not popular in Japan and considered cheesy. Because most of us know Japanese through exposure from anime/manga, we don't realize how funny it sounds to say "kyun kyun" or to speak/sing with an "anime" voice.

However, moe being taken to the extreme - to the point of it indeed being silly - would, in my opinion, classify as quite denpa.

So a sort of moe anisong (for example) = probably not denpa
moe in song being taken to the extreme = probably denpa

"Denpa" is something like tinfoil-hat wearing crazies and schizophrenics who think alien radio messages are being beamed into their brains. In that regard, it's not really different from Japan at all. The only difference is that there's a subculture around it, motivated, in part, by a murder case.

>about denpa songs being popular in the otaku crowd
Otaku fit into the picture because they're lumped into that kind of outcast, especially with the violence committed by or blamed on otaku. Weird, obsessive hoarder-cyborgs who grew into a world of radio/television and now the internet. They were raised on electromagnetic waves. I am not surprised at all that otaku are drawn to the denpa concept and as an aesthetic around themes of fragmentation, space, static, etc., I'm also not surprised that moe is also deeply tied into it. They sprout from the same kinds of trends and the converge about the same people. I think it's fascinating.

Anyway, just my two cents. I wish people would stop arguing about it and just lurk for a bit and enjoy the music.

>>12666927
Denpa operates like "noir" in film. Not a genre, but a collection of general traits, a mode, atmosphere, aesthetic, etc. we probably shouldn't say it IS denpa, but rather it sounds/feels denpa. I think denpa is a feeling above anything else.

/jp/ overreacts over anything Korean for some reason. I think they're trying too hard to be like 2ch netuyo, since it makes them more Japanesey.

>> No.12699851

>>12699720
Except for the fact that if you knew even the tiniest bit about the Korean government and its plagiarism industry/historical revisionism/territorial grasping, you'd know that sponsoring anything Korean is literally (yes, in the literal meaning of the word) severely damaging to the future of any and all Japanese media and culture. Korean "idol groups" with knockoff songs move in on the Western market through blatant sex appeal and buying into Japanese groups through zainichi connections (SDN48), the money flowing into the Korean government through the entertainment industry (see the "idol" comments on the Takeshima issue for proof) sponsors territorial theft and international blame of racism (Japanese politicians are scarcely allowed to visit the Yasukuni Shrine anymore, because of Korean-sponsored American media misrepresenting it as racist), Japanese culture is being appropriated by Koreans and presented as having been theirs all along contrary to historical evidence (a translation of a Korean history book is about as detached from reality as a North Korean one), Japanese products are being pushed as Korean by Korean manufacturers breaking every copyright law in the book (look at the instant ramen/udon in your local supermarket - I'll bet most of it has a kimchi variant or is made by a Korean manufacturer)... the list continues. I didn't even get into the Osaka May 2013 stabbings and the Korean government's reaction - the Korean government is literally trying to use zainichi Koreans to pick off Japan's population from within and cause fear and alarm, and no one covers it because the US protected Korea during the Korean War and still has to uphold the excuse for fighting Communism.

There are quite a few relevant artists and albums already provided through the link in the OP, albeit a little outdated.
