Last thread I saw someone asking about the /jp/ music project.

If you're looking for the tracks, the entire dropbox can be found (still) through this link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/7vymrf03krqs545/xMtFnbHOQo

That includes the whole of project 1 and a failed 2.5 project folder (which was basically just recompiling 2's songs but adding album art).

About the project itself, it was really just a collection of anons compiling a list of tracks they made for (or before) the project. It happened twice, the first being more diversely populated than the second, also the organizer was different for each one. We sort of got complacent on the second one and only really worried about the album art on the day of the deadline - it didn't go well with the organizer and he decided to release the album as is. Fair enough, but some decided to push through with adding the album art for the sake of completion, but only 2 people ever resubmitted their tracks, so they didn't bother anymore.

That said, I wouldn't mind doing it again. I still have access to the old dropbox and email I used to organize the project. Also, i still have contact to all the contributors (for project one only, unfortunately), since they had to mail me to access the dropbox. No telling if they're still up for it though.

>> No.12643047

>>12642988
I'm all for releasing at least once a Comiket, that'd be a generous deadline and more artists could participate. From what I've seen from the previous projects, most artists had to contribute twice to make an album.

Also I don't think you need to contact the first contributors, the project is for people lurking the board after all. If they're still around, they're welcome.

Should the project be in a separate thread not to saturate this one? An IRC channel? I personally wouldn't mind keeping it here because I both draw and compose, but I don't speak for everyone.

To be honest, we just settled in what was already the /jp/ project thread because the idea come up there. We never made our own thread and updates were never often enough to deserve one. I wouldn't mind just posting in the OC thread, if they would have us. However I'd like to discussions to stay in /jp/, so that passers-by would have a chance to notice and possibly, contribute.

The dropbox is ready and I'm ready to invite people into the dropbox if anyone wants to join.

As for
>some basic guidelines

I suppose the old ones will do:

Anyone can join, and the minimal requirement will be that it's somehow "music" and not just "you saying 'fuck' in the mic a couple of times"

Furthermore, to make a proper release, we'll also need an artist as soon as possible, to immediately avert the last minute fiasco of project 2.

Now if we want to be ambitious and take the suggestion of >>12643047 to release in Comiket (I doubt this would be possible), we will need to set a tighter deadline to match the date and we'll need someone who would actually go to the trouble of wading through the bureaucracy of Comiket, set up a stall, etc. In other words, a whole lot more problems than I think a disorganized bunch of /jp/sies can handle.

>Photo-realism takes days to get done properly
I think you're thinking about hyper-realism. If so, the references you have been using will not suffice. Although I do suspect you're thinking about photorealism, and no, it doesn't take a few days to do a study like this. The goal of photo-realism studies is to capture light, as the name suggests, to properly convey forms and value separation. What you have done is merely taking colour and isolated details and assembling them onto a flat surface, disregarding the construction of the shape using values. The result is a horribly incohesive layer of color that looks flat when viewed near or far. Link related is an example of good photostudy: http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2013/224/c/f/_20130812_by_ra_lilium-d6hrcns.jpg
Remember to capture the light, anon.

I can do that better in grayscale, how to deal with stuff changing color all the time, supposing I want to directly work with color? The constant color picking causes all this isolating.

If you think you will impress the /jp/sies you are sorely mistaken. A drawing from photograph is not impressive at all when there is so little personal input to the piece. You are making a "photograph" when the camera does a better job than you. There is an odd stiffness within your painting.

You can try to make the increment double in size if it's a different sign from the current velocity. If you're planning on implementing proper physics, you can ignore it until you implement friction and that should solve it.

I don't remember that Ecco did, though I'm sure you were able to talk to other dolphins. Probably a button press? Or maybe just by bumping into them?

Anyway, you can check, on button press if there exists a jellyfish beside the main jelly in the direction it's facing.

It's probably much easier to implement collision detection first, so you can easily tell if a jellyfish is beside your jelly

I dont know how unity works, it says you can use javascript, but I have no idea how you're coding so this may not be useful.

This is where the key handler has all the button commands for each level, my game has about 10 but this is just an example. So what happens is when I press button 3, which is defined in the KeyHandler class, it trys to run the setTalk() in the fish or jelly or whatnot class.
public void handleInput() {
if(Keys.isPressed(Keys.BUTTON3)) fish.setTalk();}

Then in the fish/jelly class you have your called loop thing that trys to determine if the player is close enough to trigger the event.
setTalk(){
if(Math.abs(player.getx() - x) < 120 || Math.abs(player.gety() - y) < 120) {(interaction code goes here)}}

Again, no idea if this is remotely helpful, but just throwing it out there in the off chance it is.

I would really recommend not going into any further course teaching songwriting because while they may give you helpful tips you will only ever make good music by loving to make and play music and by practicing for hours and hours and years until you think you're a little less shit than you were the year before, then you keep trying to improve after that. Not learning in some school course.

Not that guy, but actually, this is the first time I've heard of songwriting as an educational course.

I guess it's up to you, if you think they're actually teaching you useful things and not just stuff you already know, or providing you with motivation. Because my fear is, they might be fleecing you.

>> No.12655722

>>12655687
It's a free course and it's been proving rather useful. I have always been satisfied with my melodies and my writing (even poems), but was never able to actually put lyrics into a song or create a song out of lyrics.

The classes are similar to screenwriting classes I've had, in that they show you some rules and general directions, methods and structure. And of course, this might sound very stiff if you are all about muh artistic freedom, but breaking the rules is just a matter of time.

This is like learning color theory or even standard music theory, in a sense that everything is possible, but having a bit of education on landmarks and starting points greatly benefits your craft. All three of my recent sketches went way better than any of my failed attempts in the past, where I counted only on my guts.

About the music compilation project, in light of a very recent e-mail I received, I think my explanation of what we're doing may not be clear enough. Let me explain:

We're putting together music that we, ourselves, made. Putting other people's music without permission in the album may be troublesome in many ways, as I'm sure you understand. If we're talking about theme however, that is unrestricted. Doujin/Touhou/etc. remixes, completely original music, what have you. All is welcome.

Also, another part of what we need for the project is the album art. Ideally, we'd need 2 - one for the front and one for the back. More art is better, of course, as this will allow us more pages, such as "inside front" or, if one is truly enterprising, a (fake) CD design. Of course, there's no real CD since it's just going to be just a .zip file anyway, but the idea is there and it's fun.

If you have any other question, or if you want to contribute to the project, you can email me at jpmusicproject1@gmail.com so I can invite you to the dropbox

Yea, I realized it was overloaded and over-compressed to hell. I guess I didn't really like how it sounded so I just kept overloading it until it almost sounded lo-fi. Which sounds cool, but listening to it now.. yea, it's tiring on the ears.

So here's a new mix, much quieter and hopefully better dynamically. I also raised the bass slightly per one anon's suggestion.

I'll post the lyrics in the next post since it'll run over the 2000 word limit.

"Common sense says turn on the heater
A pragmatic heart says I should die
My blood is starting to bare a striking resemblance to the ice that's outside

They say there's no breaking, what's set in stone
But a million years, and a million winters could corrode us

How will we see when the snow holds up the windows?
How will we see when our angst blots out the sun?

Oh, I don't know
I'm only sure as lives go
We've failed

How will we see when the snow holds up the windows?
How will we see when our angst blots out the sun?

Oh, I don't know
I'm only sure as lives go
We've got to keep trying cuz

Common sense says turn on the heater
A pragmatic heart says just let it die
Our love is starting to bare a striking resemblance to the ice that's outside

Oh can you hold the shrugging of a mountain
Oh can you stop the sigh of the sea
I know temperamental faults I shouldn't shrug
Confident ignorance will ruin me
So if she wants you don't try to resist
For her will alone, you exist
Try to hold the shrugging of a mountain
Try to swallow the sigh of the sea
But don't let her know you're resisting
Your hopes and dreams she'll bury"

It's about a relationship where the one girl is super dominant and egotistical, but very charasmatic, and it's ripping the relationship apart, yet she doesn't know why and falls into a depression because of it. The first half of the song is from her perspective. The outro from the guys.

And fuck, listening to the intro again, it really is grating ;_; Does anyone know how I can make it less sharp? I tried an equalizer on the choir but I don't want to cut too much of the high end off.

a night sky full of cries
hearts filled with lies
the contract--is it worth the price?
a soul pledged to the darkness
now I've lost it, I know I can kill
the truth is just beyond the Gate
(very nice guitar riff here)
Tears streamed from my squeezed-shut eyelids
My reason and the fragments of my blood are repeatedly undermined

I don't want anything anymore
(My exposed feelings go around and turn 'round)
I don't feel the same way as before
(Gang bang, son of a gun) (sic!)

In the crack between two entwined chests
This parched body that only desires will--

Imbue itself into the night with filthy fingertips
And wrench you open until you're torn to shreds
And its peeling emotions will creak in a shallow sleep
If it can erase just about everything entirely right now

The sun will rise, so close your eyes

One day, you are out hunting on the mountainside when you are caught in a snowstorm and collapse. When you come to, you are greeted by the rich smells of cooked food. A female figure is bent over a pot of steaming vegetables, her back to you. From her headballs, you recognize her as Aya, the crow tengu. Terrified that she’ll eat you too, you throw off the blanket and try to climb out the window, but your immense belly gets stuck.

“Awake already? You sure are a spry one!” Aya says, as she drags your corpulent mass back through the window. “It’s a good thing I found you when you did, otherwise you’d have been buried under all that snow!”

Turning around to face her, you expect to see some grotesque mockery of a human form, but are instead shocked to see that the youkai in front of you is a gorgeous girl! Her dark eyes shine with nothing but kindness and she sets a bowl in front of you.

“Please, eat up. You must be famished,” she says. Your mouth waters as you inhale the delectable scent of steamed vegetables and some kind of meat. Wielding the chopsticks like a seasoned pro, you shovel the nourishment into your fat cheeks.

“I hope it’s to your liking. I… haven’t cooked for someone else in a long time. It gets so lonely up here, on this mountain, sometimes…” she trails off. Hey, is that booze?

“Yes, it is! Would you like some sake? Here, let me heat it up.” You down the alcohol in one gulp. It travels through your gut like a flaming tapeworm. Fuck it, you chug the bottle.

“This might be a bit forward, but… do you think I’m attractive?” Aya asks, fidgeting. Without speaking, you rub your greasy palm against her soft cheek. She closes her eyes and leans in, and you meet her lips with your own. You slam your fat tongue into her delicate mouth, feeling her lips tremble like leaves in a summer breeze. Your hands drunkenly assault her supple breasts.

Suddenly, you feel something stiff poking your leg. Aya covers her face with her hands as you peer down at her lap. Something was making a tent in her skirt. Tearing off the garment, you are greeted by the sight of Aya’s penis, her slit winking back at you.

“This shame is why I was sent to live up here, alone, on this mountainside,” Aya says, between sobs. “Just me and my dog…”

Her penis shows no signs of softening, and you want to repay her for rescuing and feeding you, so you wrap your hairy mitts around her shaft. She shivers at the touch, as you begin to rub up in down, feeling the bile build up in your throat as you continue the disgusting task. Aya’s breathing quickens, but she shows no sign of orgasm.

“No, don’t… please…” Aya whines, as you lower your face into her lap. She cries out as your lips wrap around her cockhead. Wrapping your tongue around her shaft, you bob your head up and down, feeling the blood pump through her dick with every lick. The throbs increase in tempo until finally, she gasps and cum gushes forth and into your throat. The taste is indescribably horrible, and your revulsion over giving a youkai a blowjob overwhelms you and you vomit forth your own torrid mixture of food, booze and cum all over the girl’s face and breasts. Your shame only lasts long enough to see a sword poking out from between your ribs, before your dying, bloated mass collapses on top of Aya.

The end.

It never actually hits its spawn point perfectly but I just need it to stop when it's in the general area, or go directly to it. vector2 doesn't have slerp though. Once I get that finished I will just need to make it not leave he water, turn when it hits something, and turn on a timer and I think the scripting for generic fish enemies is finished.

Let me get this straight, so in the code, rigidbody2D represents the fish, right? And what this code does is, if the distance (I assume between the fish and the jelly) the direction is set (facing, I suppose), and if the fish's position is equal to it's spawn point, the velocity is reset to 0,0 and chasing stops, did I get this right?

Ah, I see. That's because the fish position probably never actually gets 0,0. Only within decimal a fraction of it. You can do two possible things: One, you can change the check from rigidbody2D.position == spawnpos to something like (don't know the syntax) absoluteValue(rigidbody2D.position.x - spawnpos.x) < 1 (ideally, your minimum velocity) && absoluteValue(rigidbody2D.position.y - spawnpos.y) < 1 (ideally, your minimum velocity),

or

when initializing the return to spawn point routine, you can set a variable like returnDirection = Direction(for example) LEFT, noting which direction the fish is heading to get to the spawn point. Then, once the fish changes direction, you can almost be certain that the fish has arrived at their spawn point. Though, you might need to set a "vertical" direction, or the fish might stop somewhere above or below the spawn point if it reaches the spawn point's x too early, while still having some y to shave off.

Try moving it to the side and adding reverb, see if that helps.

>How does one wrap their head around modes? It's scales that start from something other than the tonic, right?
Yes, right. It doesn't change much in terms of harmony or anything, you will usually have the same progression logic taking place, just shifted a bit.

The song I've made here >>12642032 is a typical folk music in that it uses Ddorian (verse) and Gmixolydian (chorus).
The verse progression is:
ii iii IV V vi V iib iii ii

The chorus progression is:
V Ic iic I IVc IV ii7 V

If we consider the D and G as 1 in their respective parts, this is like going

[1]234[5]412[1]

[1]454[5]77[51] < perfect cadence

I don't play any instrument, but if you are guitarist, it is useful to learn how to play modes in terms of muscular memory, skipping frets just like you do with the major/minor scale (which are 2 modes out of the 7).

About your track, it has a sorta generic electro David Gueta feeling to it, how about spicing it up with some harsher sound or atmosphere? But it sounds well done.

Turns out I downloaded the entire series before starting, so I'll have to spy it nevertheless. I don't know, the pace of the show is also very strange, I've watched a lot of slice of lifes (K-On, Lucky Star, Minami Ke, Azumanga Daioh) and this is the first time I'm bored while watching some.

I'll try listening and describing where I feel the problem or changes, let's see how it goes.

00:00 okay
00:06 it shifts
00:11 it shifts
00:20 it shifts
00:uh... guess it was just the intro after all. What is really giving me the impression things are unstable are the frequent pauses:
00:40
01:00
01:18
01:27
01:43
01:50
01:58
02:04
One thing I've learned about these pauses is to use them moderately and that they are more efficient if you play it normally (without the pause) before, and then surprise the listener by adding it the second time around the melody plays. Keep experimenting with the ornaments, too. Mordents, trills and shit are awesome when correctly applied (the one you put is one of them).

Your song is in some kind of strange mix of locrian and lydian, which sounds unstable.
Just using the notes from a scale isn't not going to get you anywhere. You have to understand the relationship between them. For example, you have a lot of unsolved tritones that I think you didn't intend to use. They sound and resolve like this:

Criticizing this is like criticizing the symbol drawing of a beginner. Learning some music theory is going to be of great benefit to you.

Lightly sketched pieces will protect you from the truth. Once you lay down the structure this softly, it's time to apply strong, bold lines. It will hurt at first, but it will give your drawing solidness and eventually your drawing will impose its own forms, instead of counting on our imagination to fill the unfinished gaps. Go for it, anon-kun!

The window is sprinkled with every star
Outside is the river so quiet and far
The willows are whispering a sleepy song
And into this trance I remember home

The body relaxed, the breeze so shy
As I listen in bed nature's lullaby
Drowsy at night, the moon come along
And into this trance I remember home

A shadow that won't let me sleep
A shadow that won't let me hope
The sorrow and pain for leaving behind who you love

A mistake that won't let me stay
A mistake that won't let me go
I run and never arrive

Freedom Wars is a mission-based thrid person action game for the Vita.
Set in a dystopian future, where scarcity made human lives a resource, you are a Sinner - considered to be worth less than the metal sheets your bunk is made of.
Your job is to reclaim ressources for your home Panopticum - large, autonomous and autarkic city-states - be it by scavenging scraps, hostile giant mechas, or other Sinners from opposing Panoptica.
To make sure that you're doing nothing but serving the Greater Good, you are accompanied by either a android or a gynoid, called Accessory, who observe you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
At first, your personal space is pretty much non-existent. You are receiving penalties for moving more than five steps at once, loitering around for more than three minutes, lying down, etc.
I guess that was the punchline.

Yea, mixing and mastering is definitely one of my weak points. I have trouble making sure the mix isn't too crowded (since I like to just layer tons of things in my song, it makes it even harder to make sure everything sounds good together) and making sure it isn't too muddy or bassy, or lack thereof. I should really look up proper use of compression and equalization. And you're right, it definitely could do with me recording more of the instruments in stereo.

And thank you! I really did like the first verse as well, I think it shows a definite improvement in my lyrics.

I made a piano loop a couple days ago and kind of just tinkered with it, and came up with this ominous sounding thing: https://soundcloud.com/misakoisaqt/why-dream

I didn't really use EQ or compression once again but I think the mix isn't as bad.

Forgot to reply to your other critiques!

>something's off with the piano at 1:57
Yea, I ran into a big problem here, where the chord progressions that make up both sections of the solos don't go together, so basically anything I played sounded out of place.

Which leads to this:
probably center panning or weird sus2? (idk) chord at 2:00
I'm not exactly sure what I was playing at that piano solo section. They sounded cool to me, but the chords I was coming up with I'm not sure if they even have proper names. And if they do they're some weird jazz chords. I've only been playing a couple of months so you'll have to forgive my ignorance.

>'Our' in 'our love' sounds kinda weird
This is because I made "our" shift between two notes, and vocaloid really didn't handle that well, unfortunately. I'm not sure how to break up the syllable to extend it naturally.

>also, rework or get rid of that double pedal kick; that along with the ride cymbal kinda ruins the 2nd part of the track
I really liked the triple kick pattern, I thought it gave urgency to the lines being sung over it, but I can make it quieter or less in your face.
