I don't see the appeal in baby metal. Can someone explain to me why people like it?

They're popular because everyone likes cute lolis and it's not as weird to admit you like them because metal.

These threads literally have weirdos talking about how these little girls are their "waifus". That's weirder than most of the other subforums on /jp/. At least the rest of us are playing vidya or worshiping adult aged celebrities.

The music is fun, the backing band consists of reputable musicians, they play homage to several metal acts, their live shows at the Budokan in Japan were amazing.
Oh, and you can wall of death, slam dance, crowd surf, and/or mosh at their live shows and it's accepted/welcomed

I prefer more melodic and relaxing music but I guess everyone likes something different. I like some rock music mostly from the 80's and 90's though.

have you given tricot a listen? you might like them. geek sleep sheep too, they have an early 90s alt vibe.

I haven't heard of those groups before I'll have to give them a listen.

The loli factor is the least important one for me personally. I get enough of that from Hellopro. But as a metalhead of many years for whom J-pop and idols were at first a bizarre relaxing thing to be enjoyed ironically on the side, Babymetal hits all the right spots.

I would have shrugged it off if they were nothing but a gimmick, but they just keep upping their production value. Getting real band of great musicians full time, doing mind-blowing shows in the most respectable venues, now a world tour. This has long grown beyond a simple "lets put two completely unrelated genres together for the lulz" concept, they have truly created something unique and refreshing, and they pull no punches in delivering it.

Picture related, also OC.
