Where to find the best Miku songs? I've been getting the stuff from the Project Diva games, but I don't know where to find good ones other than that.

I'm a fan of Utsu-P, Wintermute and Clean Tears myself. Two albums that are also worth a listen are Hatsune Miku plays Moonriders, Gumi Goes Pop and Mikgazer.

As far as vocaloid is concerned, since its all very varied, it's hard to recommend anything particular without knowing tastes. I don't particularly like AKB48 style pop so I tend to avoid most of the weeb vocaloid stuff.

You don't know what you're talking about. Techno is not at all one of the most common vocaloid genres. Rock songs are far and away the most common. A good number of these are generic / uninspired / crappy but that's to be expected. Vocaloid music is no exception to Sturgeon's Law. The good stuff is not that hard to find.

not trying to go full autist or sound like a dick in the process but 'techno' is not the right term. techno is actually a genre of music on its own.

dance music would be the kind of stuff you'd hear in nightclubs. it's comprised of electronic sampling, optionally vocals and almost always uses the 4/4 time signature since obviously it's made for dancing to. then you have pop music, which is what you actually meant. pop can be electronic but almost always contains a traditional instrument, as well as vocals, and uses many different time signatures.

both dance & pop are umbrella terms for a slew of different genres, but techno is not a term used for anything but the different sub-styles of techno. pop music happens to include pop rock, which does account for some of the releases that are normally thought of as simply 'rock music'. it's sometimes hard to define the lines between genres which is why most people generally don't like to talk about this sort of thing or cringe at the thought of it, but please at least understand the fundamentals.

i've heard one vocaloid album that could be described as minimal techno https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6FFrag3b84 while i've heard hundreds that could be described as dance music, and thousands that are without a doubt pop music. pop music is much more common than rock when it comes to vocaloid, because it technically envelops a wider variety of sounds than rock does. i'll leave now.

>> No.12442315

>>12442072
Agreed except for the last part where you said pop is more common than rock.

Rock is the most common, as I said. I have watched the weekly vocaloid rankings for years, and it's simply true. There aren't any 3rd party sources I can cite, but if you watch for yourself then you too will see that rock is the most common genre.

>> No.12442363

Oh, no, I'm aware that technically techno is only a subgenre on the electronic dance music spectrum. I used the term loosely.

"Tunts-tunts" in general lack soul, they don't make a composition. The inclusion of lyrics are void of commitment to the passing of a sensation/message, being solely a vehicle for 1-2-3-4 club steps.

Please note I have no quarrel with synthesized instruments. There are infinite forms of using only "electronic" sounds and still creating a composition - those are specially enjoyable since they escape from the cage of the natural sounds. Deviations are great and ultimately are what allowed music to evolve and propagate in first place.

My preferred context of Vocaloid usage are when they are inserted as an actual singer - be it with natural intruments, synthesized or a mix of them. I'd guess they appear "tagged" mostly as pop, rock and jazz.

>"Tunts-tunts" in general lack soul, they don't make a composition. The inclusion of lyrics are void of commitment to the passing of a sensation/message, being solely a vehicle for 1-2-3-4 club steps.

That's something of a disputable oversimplification, but even taking your characterization at face value doesn't mean it's bad music.

Your perspective seems to consider music in an empathetic or didactic sense, as conveying a feeling or a message. Other people enjoy music more for its structural qualities. Feelings and messages are not as important to them.

Aside from electronic and Vocaloid music, I also favour Indian classical genres and baroque music. These put more emphasis on a musical piece as a structure of repeating and varying motifs that is appreciated more in the abstract rather than connected with deeply on an emotional level. For instance, Indian classical compositions often have nonsense lyrics. Many baroque works are not even meant to evoke anything and they are called by their structure e.g. "Canon in D." Similarly, in indian tradition many semi-improvisational works are known simply as "Rag(a) <name of the key used>."

Is music for finding oneself or losing oneself? Should music teach a lesson or is the music itself the lesson?

Anyone have opinions on the newer vocaloids like vFlower and Rana?

vFlower has an interesting voice type. I think it's true what many of the NND comments say, that she sounds like a boy sometimes. i don't have a problem with that though.

Rana's voice seems a bit more generic or in line with other popular voicebanks. She sounds like some mix of IA, Rin and Miku.

Gamestop are offering the Neru/Haku/Teto character pack + Americana Miku module as a pre-order bonus, however according to a blog post by Sega, you'll get this character pack for free if you already own Project Diva F for PS3 or Vita.

http://blogs.sega.com/2014/08/11/hatsune-miku-project-diva-f-2nd-release-date-pre-order-bonus/

If you already own F, and want to pre-order F 2nd, it'd be smarter to get it from Amazon since their pre-order bonus includes two extra live songs from the Magical Mirai 2013 concert. Shipping also seems to be free on Amazon whereas shipping for Gamestop will only be free if you choose to pick it up from one of their stores. So if you order from Amazon you will not have to shower, comb your neckbeard, spray on Axe, iron your cape, or hide your bald spot with a fedora just to ask the female Gamestop employee for your Chinese cartoon music game.

Unlike its North American counterpart, amazon.co.uk doesn't list any pre-order bonuses at all, which is a shame and sort of bullshit considering the bonuses are purely digital. If you do decide you want the pre-order bonus songs, you'll have to order from amazon.com but keep in mind non-US citizens are exempt from free shipping.

Neither game.co.uk nor gamestop.co.uk have PDF 2nd listed. Paying to have it shipped from US with a pre-order bonus (which may make you spend more; the identical character pack for F costs around $5 on PSN), or buying it without the bonuses and getting free shipping are your only options.

vFlower has a bit of Len and Teto in her voice, but it's a distinctive voice type. She's not that realistic, at least going by the tuning that producers have come out with so far. I don't mind that; I like vocaloids to sound like vocaloids and not exactly like human singers.

Her character design is really pretty. She has that likeable flamboyance without looking like another Crypton-loid.
