I agree with most of this statement. Apart from a few notable exceptions (Gundam vs., Virtua Fighter, Street Fighter, the Shin Megami Tensei series) it's all just the same shit with no real improvements from what was released before. This isn't a problem with some series (Zelda, Touhou, anything made by Treasure) it is for most series. The main Final Fantasy series and Disgaea especially (which seemed to piss someone off last night IIRC) are pretty big offenders here.

Well, first, you can purchase just single packages. These include things like the ability to make another character, or "rebirth" (your character stays exactly the same but returns to age 10 and level 1 allowing you to gain more skill points), or provides some random gameplay advantages. Also, you must pay for a time-based premium service (not a rebirth) in order to do the main storyline.

Well, you can. But you'll be a very very high level, and you'll have to get enough experience to advance a level. Even if you do, you won't get anywhere near as many skill points in the amount of time it would take you to advance that level if you just rebirthed and levelled over from 1 again.

To answer your first question, no, unfortunately. The 3-1/3-2 sprites I posted earlier (and some concept art. Warlock looks sweet) is all that's available so far. It will be on kRO in 2008, as well as many private servers soon after that, I'm sure. You can turn 3rd class after base level 99 as normal or trans. Trans will let you have trans skills when you 3rd, so it's a good idea. You can read about them here:
