I got one failure to feed with my AK about 7000 rounds in. My AR has 9000 rounds of XM193 through it, dry as a bone and you can feel the sand crunch around it. No stoppages of any kind. Pretty much every decent AR on the market, and every AR assembled properly by someone who's not a complete retard will do this just fine.

They're rather comfy and the ergonomics of the action release, magazine release, safety, and charging handle are very good. The trigger is bad. It could be more accurate (expect 2 arcmin with not-shit ammo). It's reliable, and jew.

Overall, it's expensive, on the heavy side, and the recoil impulse shakes more than an AR-15.

Probably the best bullpup on the market if you put in the TAV-D trigger after, but that's even more cost.

>>12416093
>Sure, your rifle works perfectly even though everyone else has problems with their ARs when unlubed. It's impossible for the AR to be as reliable as an AK, you are deluding yourself if you think otherwise.

My whole point is that the AR is more than reliable enough in any situation. When are you going to shoot thousands of rounds without having the chance to even drip some engine oil on your bolt? Even in a long term survival situation, you can keep it 100% functional with lard. Plus your AR will smell like bacon.

Oh, and most ARs should have no issues dry until about 4000 rounds, but LMT makes a damn smooth gun.

I just don't feel like handicapping myself with a rifle that's less accurate, heavier, has a much more sight picture disturbing recoil impulse, a terrible trigger, and slower reloads when the AR is extremely reliable. You're defining your rifle choice by splitting hairs over 99.999% reliability versus 99.998% reliability.

Stop being such a hard headed god damned uncompromising reliability whore. You don't need to jam twinkies in your rifle in a firefight.

>sight picture disturbing recoil impulse
Imagine that, a harder hitting round having more recoil. The harsher recoil impulse also translates into higher reliability.
>terrible trigger
As terrible as a milspec AR, and you can fix the trigger.
>slower reloads
Only an issue for hispeedlodrag operator pretenders. Two lug mag catch is more reliable, as is recip CH. Try kick starting an AR when it freezes.

I don't know what kind of a scenario you're talking about, but since you mention a firefight, I'm assuming you have some kind of prepper fantasies, in which case reliability is king.

The AR is probably the best sport shooter rifle, but in scenarios where your life depends on your primary, there are a lot better options.

>Only if you get a poor AK and a top tier AR, maybe.
Not really.
>Imagine that, a harder hitting round having more recoil
And less terminal effectiveness. So more recoil, and less effect on a man-sized target. Sounds great.
*With M43, not soft point commercial stuff
>The harsher recoil impulse also translates into higher reliability
That makes no sense.
>As terrible as a milspec AR, and you can fix the trigger.
Wrong in every way.

Funny how you poke at me for mentioning a life or death situation, but then go right to using a life or death situation as an argument.

I'm just the type to enjoy every advantage 99.998% of the time (speed of reloading, faster follow up shots, better ergonomics, lighter rifle, the list goes on) versus missing out on all those huge advantages for that 0.001% where you'd have to use a half-second to clear a stoppage. Where the stoppage wouldn't even happen in the first place because I know how to oil my gun every couple thousand rounds.

>> No.12416268

>>12416201

>Not really.
Yes, really. You don't have to use an ancient comblock AK, just as you don't have to use a shitty AR.
>And less terminal effectiveness. So more recoil, and less effect on a man-sized target. Sounds great.
Don't tell me you bought into that hydrostatic shock bullshit.
>That makes no sense.
Figure out how gas operated firearms work.
>Wrong in every way.
You can look at Miculek's AR vs. AK videos and hear what he has to say about the AR trigger.

Yes, I used it as an argument since it's the scenario in which you would be using the rifle. Were it an IPSC competition, I'd be willing to give you some slack, but in a SHTF scenario, you'd be dumb to take an AR over some of the other options.

>speed or reloading
Single lug mag catch is more prone to fail. Inserting a full mag to closed bolt is also hard. Not to mention that the chances or you having to shoot 30 rounds in a situation where you have no cover and not get shot is pretty damn slim. If you have cover, you reload in cover, in which case the half a second difference matters fuck all.
>faster follow-up shots
7.62, yeah, granted. 5.45, not really. 7.62 hits harder and better keeps its trajectory, so it's a trade-off.
>better ergonomics
Only an issue for wannabe operators. The AK was designed to be used with heavy gloves, even if the rifle froze, even if your damn thumbs blew off.
>lighter rifle
Between milspec M16 and AKM, the AKM is lighter.

No, but .224 bullets fragmenting are a documented fact, and happen reliably within the rifle's effective range with modern bullets. They do a WHOLE LOT more damage than pencil-wound-7.62.
>figure out how gas operated firearms work
Are you talking about reciprocating mass of the moving components? What is a heavier buffer in an AR. Recoil is still moving the reticle much less, even with an AK74. You can't compare gas piston to in-line gas impingement recoil impulses.
>Miculek's AR vs AK
I respect that man and all his teachings. That said, triggers are subjective, so I concede that it wasn't a strong point in the first place. I do feel that a stock colt milspec trigger is a pleasure to shoot, over any kind of AK trigger I've ever tried (from Sig 550s to AMDs to WASR 10. The trigger kits from Tapco, surprisingly, made them bearable but I still would rather an AR-15 trigger).

... I can see that this is going in circles of "I like my thing so you can't like yours". In the end, they're both reliable and accurate, and people shoot other people with great success using them pretty much every day.

You know, sorry about going off like that.

I'm still winning the argument because I finish with this question:

Why not both?

Sakuya for CQC, Youmu for sneaky wetwork, Patchy for sniper, with Meiling and Tewi for general assault.

All modern warfare shooters would be infinitely better if they replaced all characters with cute anime girls. Touhou fanart proves this.

What ranges were these tests done at? I've read that (with the exception of heavy SMK loads) standard issue 5.56 makes narrow pencil wounds just like M43 once it loses a relatively small amount of velocity.

I got carried away.

You can look at fragmentation velocity charts online, showing the fragmentation velocity threshold for short, carbine, and full length barrels. There's talk of adopting the 77gr cannelured OTM, because of how it has an extremely low fragmentation threshold (we're talking a very upset bullet past 600 yards with an 18" barrel).

And 7.62 has already caught on to the OT thing with the 8m3 ages ago. It'll never be as accurate at range as some 5.56 but it is by no means an entirely inferior round.

Oh damn

I tried out a few IPSC open guys' SVI/SVT race guns. Some weren't full retard (standard devisions) but they were ridiculous. Surprisingly, even in the difficult conditions and high round counts that day, they kept going with almost no stoppages. Impressive stuff for that type of pistol.

Late bump and a little contribution, here's my take on the Eientei + Keine and Mokou crew:
- Tewi: a small pistol/revolver might fit her, maybe a Colt Detective Special, which would be kinda weak in combat, but Tewi isn't a combat bunny anyhow. Maybe adds in some grenades and landmines because of prankster nature.
- Reisen: she used to be grunt in the lunarian force, the grunt weapon nowadays is either a M4/M16 variant or an AK variant, but due to the high tech of lunarian society, I favor the M4/M4A1 with a M203 launcher (either smoke to disrupt or actual grenade). Oh and a M7/M9 bayonet with that M4.
- Eirin: a marksman, I would say a M14 EBR, a SR-25 or a comparative precision rifle. People usually think Eirin is a medic, but she uses a bow in canon so I think she fits the sniper role.
- Kaguya: Probably a M2 Heavy machine gun or something, realistically, she wouldn't have the strength to use it, but considering she's not human and is immortal to boot, maybe giving her a support role would not be so bad, it's either that or a classy pistol like a decorated 1911 or Hi Power because Kaguya wouldn't do much combat anyway.
Keine: I'm thinking an LMG, SAW or PKM. Keine is a fucking tough cow and has great strength, so she would be fine as a machine gunner.
Mokou: Mokou is rumored to be a ninja, and she's old as fuck so I can see her using a magnum revolver like Colt Python or even S&W Model 29, a flamethrower as main weapon would be silly but Mokou wouldn't give a fuck either ways, she's immortal.
