I've heard some people eat it by crunching up the noodles raw in a bowl, sprinkling the powder over them and eating it like that, and that it's especially popular in prison since ramen is dirt-cheap and it doesn't need to be cooked that way.

I like to start by adding ginger powder to the water, then soy sauce, and sesame seed oil. I know in Japan it's customary to add the noodles after the water is brought to a boil, but I prefer to add it in before so that the noodles can absorb the flavours and colours better. If I have tofu and mushrooms this is when I add them. I use chopsticks to help the noodles split faster before turning off the heat almost immediately after it begins to boil. If I have miso paste (preferably the red type) I add however much I feel is needed to the broth and stir. If I have nori I place a long strip on the bottom of my bowl, then poor the noodles and broth over it before adding more sesame seed oil and nori that I cut by folding them one thousand times over then using scissors to cut lots of strips. If I was too lazy to precut a few stalks of green onion to be set aside I'll take scissors and cut lots of fresh green onion over the noodles.

If you can order good ramen stock online from Japan (not the junk that comes with instant packs), get a hold of some basic Japanese ingredients like soy sauce (again, not cheap imitation gaijin brands) and you can buy pork belly, you can make it yourself if you're really determined. They use a creme brulee torch to brown the pork belly just before they serve it, if you want to really go all-out.

Pic related, it's literally the guy who makes my ramen.

I usually have my ramen with a bit of cooked meat boiled in the water for flavoring before adding the ramen. The veggies (usually a mixed selection out of carrot, corn, cabbage or collard greens and garlic) and seasoning packet wait for the hot broth and noodles in the bowl.

For chicken-flavored ramen: I use a bit of chicken (home-fried is best) with a spoonful or two of used frying oil and add a bit of milk for creaminess after it's all done. Tastes great and looks beautiful (the oil is golden yellow).

For beef ramen:
- Sometimes I just have it with nearly a whole bulb of crushed garlic added after it's finished.
- I once lightly fried beef liver with red bell pepper and onion with a bit of salt and pepper and added it to the ramen with a bit of green onion. Tasted quite good.
- Cheap chow mein: Fry up some cabbage, carrot and celery with the beef flavor packet (might want to mix it in a bit of water first and then apply after the veggies are a bit done) and add the cooked noodles.

I usually try to match meats with the ramen flavor, but pork tastes fine in beef flavor.

Grew up with this stuff. So many ways to make it. But generally just putting in some pieces of beef or whatever proteins with broccoli is enough for a decent breakfast. I separate restaurant ramen from boiled and cup ramen. I'm really surprised no one posted nissin cup noodles yet. What kind of non asian dominated city centers do you chumps live in?

Surely "moshi moshi" is Japanese, and is equivalent to the "hello" at a telephone,
but it is very strange for Japanese as a common noun.
If an owner is a Japanese, never do such naming.

Tried that Demae Icchou sesame oil ramen and was a bit unimpressed. The flavoring is right next to Maruchan beef with a dash of sesame oil. The pork flavors are great though.
>I'm really surprised no one posted nissin cup noodles yet.
Ever since I started decking out packet ramen, I don't care for the cup kind; is less versatile though still good.

There's no stores I know of around me that have a good selection of noodles, just the basics. Walmart has Mama brand shrimp, as well as Nongshim spicy shin ramyun, but thats about it.

Amazon had a ton I'd like to try but after shipping and all, way more than what I'd want to pay.

Asianfoodgrocer, anon. Shipping is just under $7 for orders between $25-50.
I got to try a nice variety of ramen thanks to that site. They've got a wide selection of goods for asian cooking; even Kewpie mayonnaise (which I have yet to try).
Would shop again. Got a list ready for my next order.

Meant to post this gif.

For the sake of remaining on-topic: Had Maruchan beef ramen for breakfast. Boiled a few bits of broiled pork along with a leftover chicken bone before tossing in the ramen brick. Poured over bits of carrot, corn, three crushed cloves of garlic and the seasoning before applying a boiled egg.
I can't wait till I'm hungry again.

hey /jp/, small question

Where do you usually put the ramen noodles in?

I usually use like 250-300ml of water, but if I start adding other ingredients the bowls I have are filled to the edge. Like literally can't fit anything in there. So if I cook some eggs and vegetables I have to keep them in another bowl

do I use too much water or are my bowls just too small?

>> No.12379503

>>12379325
Sounds like your bowls are small (or maybe you're actually adding truckloads of other ingredients).

I use around 500ml of water and have enough room for the noodles, chunks of meat and about 100ml of veggies.

I'm thinking of living off of ramen. What if I eat ramen two or three times a day for every meal. I can probably throw in different meats and vegetable mixes/cans in, but... ramen seems like a pretty easy thing to live off of. Beats eating PB&J sandwiches I think

Just make sure you put those veggies in, and eat fruits on occasion. It may sound like an urban legend scary story, but you can legitimately get scurvy if you neglect that part of your diet long term (like just eating noodles).

>I'm thinking of living off of ramen.

In terms of calories per dollar, rice wins.

Better priced big bag of rice are at warehouse shopping clubs such as Costco or Sam's Club. Someone else with the membership can buy it for you if you aren't a member. At Sam's Club, 25 pound bags of white long-grain rice are approximately $10 USD each. They also have 50 pound bags.

With a cheap rice-cooker you are set since you can also put other things into the rice cooker if it comes with those extra internal trays for steaming vegetables. Or immediately after you hear the electronic chirp, you can open it and quickly lay down a small fairly dry filet of fish on top of the rice. You can then come back in 15 minutes and the fish will be done but not overcooked.
