I'm pretty sure KanColle had just started getting popular right before C84, so there might have been a few, but probably not a lot.
I'd still like to think KanColle is more of a fad than anything, the fan base grew so fast that I can't help but think it's just everyone jumping on the bandwagon, as opposed to actually enjoying the game/music. Touhou has been going for way longer and the fan base has had a lot longer to mature and settle, I don't really see it going anywhere soon, but maybe that's just me being optimistic.

Let me preface this by saying I have never played KanColle or consumed any media related to it.

But as far as the decline of Touhou/KanColle taking over, I'm not personally worried myself. Considering that Touhou has it's own event (have no idea if KanColle does but I assume it doesn't) and that some now large circles made their names for themselves solely through Touhou, it's unlikely that they'll ever die out. The real danger will come when new games stop being made.

On an unrelated note, I really hope the whole Brostep/EDM side of the music arranges have died out by now as they are seriously ruining some of the groups I used to look forward to.

I just don't understand the hype over KanColle. Even though I'm not a trueFAN of Touhou I still prefer them largely over KanColle.

From the music standpoint a group can easily do every kancolle bgm in 1-2 albums. I think in that departement interest will go down.
To be honest, I wasn't impressed much by the stuff made so far. On the other hand, I have no clue what groups make good stuff, it's confusing. Then it seems like that only 20% of the cast gets material done, but that's a problem of the actual game presenting most ships as complete trash.
How the kancolle fandom deals after the anime series in the longterm is the real question.

This is nice. AnitaSun (the guy behind Bitplane, he`s got a new album in the works btw) has put together a site where circles can register their new C86 works along with short samples so event-goers can find out about new circles more easily.

The wall of text is pretty interesting too, he pretty much says straight out that Touhou and Vocaloid are not attracting new artists/genres anymore. He doesn`t put out any data, but he`s been active in the scene for a long time and is close to circles like Diverse System, so I can guess he knows what he`s talking about.

After checking out all EDM, for example, I go to the rock category. When a new EDM album is ripped, it goes to the bottom of the EDM section, so if I want to see what's new on the genre I can just start from where I stopped on a given category.

For anyone else having trouble, the iso for C86 is on PD, and the DRM can easily be cracked:

1. Go to last year's C85 catalog directory.
2. Delete the ccatalog85.db file.
3. Mount the C86 iso, grab the /WINDOWS/ccatalog86.db from inside of it, go back to your C85 directory and copy it in there with the name ccatalog85.db.
4. Boot up C85 browser, you will be told that your data is missing.
5. Go to ファイル and select コミックマーケット回数切り替え, then コミックマーケット86.
6. Your C85 browser will now be viewing the C86 data.

As for cultural norms, I think I am aware of most of them. As long as I am polite, keep in line, don't make a fuss, cross the street only when the light is green, and speak japanese as much as I can to make people confortable, there shouldn't be a problem right ? Not like I wouldn't do this in every country I travel to (except maybe cross when the light is green).

I've spent weeks at a time in Japanese and only know yes, no, good morning, good evening, thank you, and sorry. It's all you need when travelling abroad. I've spent days wandering Japan only reading english and made friends with people who don't speak the same language as me. I've been to Akibahara, Denden, Wonfest, Comiket, and some other small hobby-driven events.I've always been polite and well-received, if not totally transparent.

And you know what? I have seen 6' tall guys with green mohawks screaming in a 7-11 for a slushie, and i've met jocks that laugh at naked girls in hentai/eroge shops, and the difference is that at least they have those memories.
