/jp/ today I want to bring you the story of a sad man.

This is Ikawa Masaaki, AKI for short.
Welcome to his FORMER band homepage, The Honest Love: http://www.ikawakanon.com

While you take a look, put this track to play: http://www.ikawakanon.com/mydream.mid
If you don't have a MIDI player, go with the MP3 (but go with the MIDI if you can): http://www.ikawakanon.com/mp3/aki3/inmydream.mp3

Hear this beautiful melody? This was a long forgotten MIDI I had in my computer. Do you remember that game, Dink Smallwood? Well, this one song was part of its BGM folder, although I never heard it playing in-game. It was just a happy finding of mine, and from 2005 I started listening to this music very frequently. Obsessed by its simplicity and beauty.
It was called "11.mid", no other info was given (although WMP tried to auto-fill it with Linkin Park for some reason). I fell in love with a song of which I would never be able to find more about.

It was not until 2012, with Google's evolution, that I was able to find a website referring to this 11.mid song. I discovered The Honest Love. And a page to a MP3 song, with vocals and everything! Lyrics!
http://ikawakanon.com/inmydream.htm

"What a beautiful song!", I though to myself. "Let's look at the newest releases from this nice band."

But as you can see on their website, 2004 was the last time something was updated. After fixing the gibberish page displaying (change your page encoding to Asian - JIS), you can click the MEMBERS section and take a look at both AKI and MASA.
Their biography was written in 2003, AKI was 30 years old. Clicking on his photo you can see a detailed profile, Google Translate do an okay job of translating it.

Twice he mentions to be single:
恋愛経験-(;。;)
Love experience - crying emoticon.

Oh boy, let's look at MASA.... nope. There is no MASA anymore, everything about him was deleted.
After lots of broken links and googletranslating, I managed to understand the site's structure and track down every single song AKI-san has ever released. Many are lost forever, but I could save about 51 out of 92 songs in MP3. And about 65 in MIDI format.

After this, I verified MASA has in fact participated in only 7 songs. The Honest Love is a project kept alive for years by AKI, and AKI alone. Dozens of love and hope songs from a single programmer. Because he is not a musician, but rather a typical salary man.

After some googling, I was able to find him, but no traces of MASA. In his biography at The Honest Love page, AKI states to hate contemporary Japanese music, while praising the classics. Can you guess where I found our AKI-san to be in 2014, being 41 years old?

He's working for two software enterprises at once to pay a debt. And writes several messages about being too tired to even get to compose (although he tries). And if that is not enough, he is now producing some idols - the contemporary music he clearly doesn't like. Because at least he can be near music when doing this kind work. Because The Honest Love couldn't stand it being a one-man band with no success.

And if those are not enough, AKI-san is single to this day... and still writes songs about loneliness.

/jp/, could we make The Honest Love at least EXIST?! I gave the first step creating a Last.FM entry for it, but now the band needs listeners.
I don't know AKI, I can't speak Japanese to communicate with him. But I feel deeply for this man, for this ever-single man. I want to make something to his band's memory. Even though he is not dead, even tough he will probably never know about this.
I would feel better if I wasn't the only person listening to The Honest Love for the time to come. It's been almost 10 years since I am a lonely listener to "11.mid" and more than 20 years since AKI-san has been producing music to no effect. Beautiful music.

I made a complete pack with all of his music I could find, it's all organized and tagged:
https://mega.co.nz/#!bJMnyD5b!kWp5XGi7bi1-ZpCuadlPInj1SL_EN9ZeJjQFV-uBJNU

I haven't listened to everything yet, going easy. Taking the ones I like and shuffling into my daily playlist.
If you have a Last.FM profile, maybe scrobble it every now and then. For AKI-san's dead dreams.

I don't know if it would help, but I have a site where me and my friends sell and share the comics, vidya and music we've made.
Maybe we could make a space for him, so that more people could listen to this, and maybe it could help a bit with his debts.

I am not really sure. I once found a rant from him about having his music stolen.
I don't know how that works, but it's pretty strange to throw away 90 songs just because someone plagiarized you...

One thing I can think of as a shout out to him would be a "/jp/ sings In my dream", then we could tweet it to him to give a moral boost.

But regarding actual help - like promotion or even donations as Anon proposed -, I don't know how one could go about it. His songs should first become a hit or something, and that is not something predictable.

Supporting the idols he produces would be something, but too indirect IMO. Can anybody find info on who they are?

I found this picture. AKI-san to the left, and a clown musical group named Pierro Rock (ピエロ ロク), would that be it?
