So I was in Japan last month, and noticed something. Outside of Akihabara, late-night anime merchandise, or anything related to late-night anime seemed to be rather hard to find. About the only places I could find them are in pachinko stores and stores which specialize in anime goods.

Another thing I noticed, one which felt more painful to me, was that singers that primarily sing for anime (anison artists) seemed to be obscure among the Japanese. A regular Japanese on the street would probably at least heard of AKB48, maybe Nana Mizuki, but not, say, LiSA. Why is this the case? When I check the charts, many do pretty well, but their name recognition seems to be lacking among non-anime fans. Why?
