>Atelier Shallie released
Damn, and I just finished up collecting all the PS3 Atelier games. I haven't even had the time to play them yet.

>> No.12291537

I started Shallie yesterday but got hit with the freeze bug 5 times in various situations. I'll hold off on playing more until the patch.

From what I played I liked though; especially the introduction. It's a bit long, but it establishes the Shallies as characters a lot better than E&L did with Escha and Logy.

I haven't been hit by any freezing bugs during gameplay, but so far every time I'm finished playing, when I press the PS button and 'Quit Game', I get the 'beepbeepbeep' error and my PS3 shits out. When it comes back up it has to do data retrieval. Fortunately, so far it hasn't corrupted anything. When I play it tonight I'm just going to save and then eject the disk to see if that avoids it.

I'm enjoying it so far, and I'm really surprised that Gust wasn't lying this time when they said that your protagonist choice makes a big difference. After they said that in Escha & Logy I wasn't about to believe them here, but it does. Your parties don't even fully group up until halfway through the game.

The 'hardcore' difficulty doesn't fuck around, either. It's nice to have some difficulty besides just 4 or 5 fights near the end like in E&L

Seems to be literally around 50% failure rate, and they're not even that amazing when they do hit.

It's just since you already skipped Rorona you may as well leave it for last now since it's the best gameplay wise.

If you're learning Japanese just for a hobby like gaming, getting the basics down and then applying it to your interests right away is the best way to stay motivated. There's a lot you won't know, but with constant exposure it'll seep into your head over time. The important thing is to stay diligent about looking up anything you don't know.

Find a beginner Japanese learning book or site. Nail the essentials; hiragana, katakana, basic sentence structure and grammar.
Do some of the following that sound appealing to you:
-Get anki.
-Get rikaikun/chan. Start going to Japanese websites about things you're interesting in. Dengekionline and 4gamer are a start for games.
-Get twitter and follow some Japanese accounts.
-Try some VNs. Use a text hooker so you can look up what you don't know.
-Go to the daily Japanese threads on /a/

When you play a game make sure you're familiar with terms like the options in menus and keywords related to the story before you start. It makes a huge difference when starting out.

I wonder if Gust is okay. They really put a lot of love into Ar nosurge and Shallie - their graphics get better each game and the music is fantastic (and no doubt expensive), but in both cases we see <100k people buying them, and only ~50k at full price.

It sounds corny but I feel grateful to be part of that 100k that Gust keeps making games for. I'd be really sad if they closed up shop. It feels like they're really being squeezed right now, the lack of proper QA for Ar and Shallie is just one sign.

Original images are 1280x720 on a black 2048x1024x24bpp canvas (except single pic related, it has 4096x1024 canvas), so to get them back one should prepare "donor" DDS of matching format (using Paint.NET for example) and then replace 56-byte header of "recipient" g1t with donor DDS's 128-byte header. Restored DDS files can be converted to usable format with any decent image viewer (I used IrfanView to crop them back to 1280x720 and to convert them to PNG).

Ciel and Ar's failure may be directly KT's fault, though. Three extremely awful decisions were made:

1. Trying to make a 'social' vita life-sim game
2. Releasing its sequel on the PS3 when you need to have played Ciel for it to make any sense
3. Releasing it before Ciel is even finished

Those decisions are all so mind-bogglingly stupid, and we still don't know if they came from within the Gust team itself or were handed down from KT.

I saw this as a good tie up between the two games.
People who got an interest in Ciel nosurge had already played more than enough of it to know if they were going to buy Ar nosurge. Releasing it just before Ciel's long run ends makes sense to me.

As for 2, well, yeah, you can't defend making the sequel for another platform in this context.
But I don't see a problem about 1. Sure it's not what they had been doing up until 2012, but it appealed to the same niche. Blame the direction department if you want (or even KT's dark hand shitting things up behind the scenes) but I don't think the concept of the raising sim itself is bad.

You could vote for three characters everyday, both in the first poll(three votes for each game, 9 in total)and this one.

If there was only one Wilbell she'd probably have overtaken Stera and Logy, but I doubt she'd reach Ayesha and Escha. Judging by how similar the votes for the other two Wilbells are(1454 and 1471)a lot of Wilbell fans voted for all three of her anyway.

I'm really kind of annoyed at KT/Gust for releasing Ar when they did - it would have been much better to play after finishing Ciel. So for people who can, the best thing to do is to play Ciel Offline (the no-DLC complete version coming out October) and then Ar on PS3 or Vita.

I don't know why Gust can't seem to get their games together as a whole lately. They can do great stories/worldbuilding, great gameplay, but seemingly not both at the same time anymore.

Shallie is a lot of fun to play, but the story and world building leaves a lot to be desired, as everyone has already mentioned.

Ciel/Ar nosurge have an amazing world/setting/story that barely anybody will properly experience because of their idiotic decisions regarding release schedule (releasing a PS3 RPG sequel to a Vita sim/VN game, releasing Ar before Ciel was even finished). English players are even more fucked since they can't play Ciel at all. Also, Ar nosurge becomes laughably easy after Phase 1 and all challenge goes out the door even on the hardest difficulty, it really needed more balance testing.

If they do rebalance Ar for Ar Plus, I'll probably buy it a second time to replay it with the knowledge I didn't have last time from Chapters 11 and 12 of Ciel. Still working my way through the Terminate Pack in Ciel and then this long ride should finally be over.

God damn, the Terminate Pack is almost as bad as Chapter 8 where the game becomes literally unplayable for at least 72 IRL hours.

After 4 days of Ion trying to remember something (you have to have four convos with her, and each must wait 24 hours before the next will pop up), she finally rememebered how to create the thing that will tie Ciel nosurge into the beginning of Ar.

But that thing requires like a ten-step synthesis, and then apparently more memory repairing, so I'm not sure if I'll even be able to have her finish it by the end of this weekend at this rate. Probably not.

Ciel Offline's timeskip feature would sure be nice at times like this.

At this point, if it ever gets localized, Ciel nosurge in the west will be those types of prequels where you know exactly what will happen at the end but the journey is what you're playing for. I guess that's better than playing it for a long time and then suddenly getting the last part spoiled like the Japanese audience.

Gotta say, the story in Shallie is really fucking boring. I'm halfway through Chapter 8 and I just don't care.

When I was playing Ar nosurge, that game had some gameplay issues, but I was on the edge of my seat for most of the story so I marathoned it hard.

With Shallie I just don't care. Nothing interesting is happening. I know it's Atelier and all, but I was expecting something more exciting from the trailer. 'The End of Dusk', etc.

What happens is you're repairing her memories, and at the end of Chapter 7, Ion dies in the memories you unlock, which makes her have an existential crisis as she realizes that she might be dead, since she lives in a strangle little fairytale-like world that she doesn't know anything about. She won't interact with you at all - no talking to you except to ask you to leave her alone, no item synthesis or ingredient gathering. Once per 24 hours, if you poke her enough, you'll get the console that lets you touch Ion to pop up, and you have to pat her on the head to comfort her. http://www.mediafire.com/download/9drozatdk9ybi5q/onepiece2jap.7z
This ripper will look for files in its own directory and all subdirectories, so if you are looking just for the font, extract that .7z directly to\BLJM61192\PS3_GAME\USRDIR\Data\PS3\Font directory so that it won't try to convert everything on your HDD.
I'm attaching main font here (note the alpha channel/transparency); you can get another font file (for digits) from said directory yourself.
By the way, the ripper will choke on Character directory so if you want to get additional stuff (like character sprites) from the game, move this dir someplace where the converter won't be able to find it.

I'm still near the beginning of Ar no Surge, but so far I've had one of 3000, one of 7000, and now they want me to pay 10000 dive points for an option to choose.... wtf.

I think they need to re-evaluate what they've done with their recent games. Ar no Surge is heavily linked to a prequel game, which is not only a different genre but it's on a different (handheld) console AND it's filled with DLC so that's naturally going to put people off wanting to purchase it. Shallie on the other hand looked good but they decided to just go full retard with some of the stuff (the final boss, the severe tech issues etc.). I think in order for them to get their numbers up again they need to focus on a single platform, get rid of the DLC faggotry that Ciel no Surge had and actually play test/QC their product thoroughly before shipping it. They're more than capable and they have a good handful of unique IPs under their belt but that means nothing if they keep doing questionable decisions like those.

>> No.12399131

Has anyone here heard any news about Project Metafalica's development? The Ar tonelico 2 Relocalization Project was started a good few years ago and I'm struggling to find any recent updates. The blog they have up has july as their latest update just interested to see if anyone knows any more information?

>> No.12399344

>>12399131
It's not uncommon for them to go a long time without updating. But going by the comments on the latest post (from January, even) they've been making steady progress. They're doing the final testing phase now, and since the second one took about 4-5 months, we can probably expect the next update to be the patch release by the end of the year.
Aquagon's most recent post was on the 9th of this month, by the way.

I forgot how awful Lyner is compared to the other two protagonists.

Has anyone beaten Shallie on the 'No Hope' difficulty? I think it was added in a recent patch - it's one step higher than the NG+ only difficulty.

I just started my Shallotte playthrough and I'm already getting close to having my ass kicked on it, can't imagine trying to fight the harder enemies (like the optional beast king fight) like this.

Yes. It was super easy for me, but then again it was my third run and I had an elixir that would go off whenever an alchemist hit 90% of their hp, and what I'd consider my best equipment(999 quality, can't remember exact properties, there's probably much better setups out there anyway).
It really just comes down to everything having too much hp.

I have no interest in Ciel Offline since I never cared a whole lot for the Ion waifu sim stuff and I've already finished Ciel (so all I'd be getting are costumes), but I'm tempted to get Ar Plus.

New costumes for everyone AND three brand new characters to chat with in misogi. They also mention 'gameplay tweaks' which I hope means making the game harder later on.

The only issue is that from the screenshots so far, the Vita version's graphics looks much, much worse than the PS3 version. I'm hoping some of these are just preliminary screens. OLED can work magic that can't be seen in screenshots, though, so who knows.

Warmly waiting to see what the bonuses are in the Agent Packs for Ciel Offline and Ar Plus, too.

And done. When I first played it about 7 or so years back, I liked Aurica the most and Misha the least. This time around it was the opposite.

Back to waiting now, I guess.

Playing through AT2 right now, it is a lot of fun. Did not enjoy 1 so much but I'm glad I stuck with it!

I like how the combat is interactive, but I feel like it's just right the way it is. Getting good at guarding is fun and rewarding. Why did they change the engine in 3 to something like Tales series? Does the Ar Nosurge game go back to turn based like before?

At first I was interested in Luca and Cloche, but finding out that Mir is in the game I want to get her on my team so I can find out about Ayatane. He's one of my favorite AT1 chars.

>> No.12420601

>>12420350
Ar nosurge's battle system most closely resembles AT2's, with attack/guard phases and timed presses to defend things during the defend phase. Only difference is that there's just one singer and one vanguard instead of two of each.

And yes, third girl is best girl in AT2, it's not even close

>> No.12420688

>>12420601

Third girl is always the best.

>> No.12421171

Ar nosurge's battle system was garbage, interesting idea, beyond terrible execution. Depending on the difficulty it's borked from one extreme to the other and it basically does not work for boss battles. The system is made for fighting waves so when you have to fight one big enemy it just stops making sense and gets very unfun.

>> No.12422683

>>12421171
I hate when games have a combat mechanic that doesn't work so well in one aspect of battle. There are defense phases in rhe first Baten Kaitos game and they are only good for boss battles because regular enemies do irrelevant amounts of damage that you may as well tank, it also slows the game down to guard those attacks.

Agent Packs for Ciel Offline and Ar Plus are disappointing. Nothing as neat as the music box from PS3 Ar, and the skin only works on the 2000-model Vitas.

Guess I'll just be buying the regular version Ar Plus

I finished all of AT1 a few months ago and almost done with 2nd play through of AT2.

I think AT2 has better cosmospheres and dialogue but the game itself is worse. So much constant backtracking and the battle system got really boring after a while.

Just a reminder for Vita owners: a VHBL-exploitable game is about to be announced on wololo forums & blog. Make sure to immediately buy, download and backup the game ASAP if you want to run homebrew (mostly old console/handheld emulators) on Vita and a good chance to play PS1+PSP ISOs in the future (aka eCFW), as long as you stay on the current firmware ver.3.18.
