You don't get it. English light novels are shit because they have to go through all sorts of censoring filters before the project is approved. This is much to the disadvantage of the OELVN genre's capability to uphold artistic integrity which itself begets quality. That's to say that the people drawing up the script for these things are even capable of delivering a quality product in the first place even before they decide to self-censor to appeal to the inevitable censorship imposed later down the line in the production process. That's what it takes to get on Steam, bastardizing your product so it can appeal to the masses instead of making something trukvlt that would be remembered forever as a cult classic. So it is obvious to conclude from this that all OELVNs are a shit.

dude what. If a small team of people is making a game, I doubt they're going to censor themselves. What you said could be true for a larger company, if they were trying to make some rpg or vn or something, but if I'm making some shitty vn in my garage, I'm making it for me and what I want, not what the ESRB says gets a T rating. I don't know how Higurashi's quality would be affected by Steam as it was released a year before Steam was even a thing. WEE was released at Comiket, so it's pretty clear the devs had nothing holding them back from doing anything they wanted. Neither of them are selling dakimakura officially either.
