So taking advantage of the latest freeleech, I managed to get IIDX 20, Sound Voltex, Reflec Beat and PnM 21. Holy fuck, the guys at Konami really know their shit. All fantastic games.

Sadly I only have a small home PnM controller, but IIDX is still my favorite Bemani game. I live in a 3rd world shithole where for some reason Dj Dao shipping cost turns out to be exorbitant (see picture), and I haven't seen anyone selling a home controller here either. Are there any other alternatives?

Also, I dislike watching people play Sound Voltex because I hate filters and flangers sound effects, but actually playing it is surprisingly fun.

It's not so easy, but you could try building controllers. pop'n is easy since it's just buttons and you can get by with a padhack, but IIDX and SDVX require some programming for the rotary encoders.

why not just buy a KOC to start out? They're holding steady at about 50-60 bux when people sell them on sows, and the USBemani will be 30 bucks when it comes out in July/August.

I went with a KOC setup for a year before I bought a Dao, and I think that was the best choice.

I'm using a KOC with some generic ps2 adapter for tricoro and I get a little input lag with it.
It's not too bad but it throws off my timing on the notes a little. Is it because it's a KOC or my adapter? Is there a way to fix this?

If you're using a JKOC you can try increasing your polling rate. Also make sure you're using an adapter that only has one controller port. It should remove most inconsistencies and for input lag, you can adjust offset in tricoro.

A common thing that pops up is that digital signage displays supposedly have less input lag, but I can't see any tests confirming this. Tests of large computer displays also seem nonexistant

I suppose the top contender I've found is the Sony KDL-42W705B which supposedly has 13,5ms of input lag. Is there anything else out there that is better?

It's a nice drop in replacement for IIDX DAOs and also works for SDVX/pop'n.

It gives your controller game-controlled lights so it's like the arcade. Also allows the turntable to report its absolute position so it acts like the arcade while having no input lag. If you have used a JKOC with a usb adapter, you would know how frustrating it is to move through the songwheel, arcin fixes that.

One of the things I don't understand is the 4 digit pin you're supposed to have to enter, I was able to play a few games under "standard" without having to enter one. If you don't enter a pin, your card isn't used and your progress isn't saved. I had a hell of a time getting the thing to recognise my keyboard for it.

Just enter the same pin twice and it'll be saved to the network, then you just have to hit the card button and type your pin when you want to use it.

I'm having troubles with my turntable on the KOC I just bought. I've noticed that after launching beatmania the controller becomes undetected, as in not findable in the USB-gamepad settings in Windows anymore. While the buttons works, it seems that the turntable gets fucked to shit and scratches twice with one scratch, maybe because of this. It might be the adapter, but it's only when launching either the bemanitools config or when launching the game itself. The turntable could be broken but probably not since in the Y axis test window when it is detected it seems to work as intended.

Besides what >>12255398 says, make sure you're properly connected to the e-amuse server. You shouldn't get any error at the beginning, nor any warning in the title screen (exclamation sign), and there should be a "NETWORK OK" in the bottom.

If it isn't connecting properly, make sure you have disabled all network adapters besides the one you're using to connecting to the Internet.

Not trolling. I just started truck driving so I only have a phone for now. I'll check some of that stuff out.

So I started playing IIDX again, but I always sucked. I can h-clear most 7's and clear some 8's and 9's. Now I plan to get fully into it, but I need some tips to play with good form. If I develop bad practices I think I'll have a bad time trying to correct them later.

I have been playing Osu!Mania for slightly over a year now but the community is cancer and the ranked maps are horrendous, all i seem to play anyway are BMS and o2jam converts. Where do I go from here? do I beg for a sows invite and then buy an IIDX controller? or do I play LR2, or EZ2ON? I honestly have no idea where to go from here to improve because i dont think osu is the right place for that.

Depends on your laptop specs, tricoro isn't too picky with graphics card and isn't to demanding but it requires something that it isn't a toaster to run smoothly.

You would need to either use a PS2 to USB adapter if you're using the Konami Official Controllers (KOC) or buy arcade styled (ASC) from DJDAO to have a native USB input.

there's a public torrent called "beatmania ps2 collection" that has every iidx game for ps2 except for the single american release that originally came with the ps2 controller that you want. the one i bought came with the game. it's not at all a bad one to start with, despite what people might say, and it might be the only one available to you if you don't have a modded ps2.

Playing my way through the 9s folder in Omnimix. Some of the readded songs are complete ass, though. Can't remember which song, but I got a high C and it put me in 60th~ place for global rankings.

Nonetheless, I push on. A few hours through today and I've at least played every song from A to D in the alphabet.

I'm fucking stuck at the 7dan wall. Fire Fire was easy as shit when I played on a KOC, but having a dao with realistic TT distance turns that (_)12345 roll into a painful hell. God forbid I ever make it more than halfway through The Safari.

This is completely false.

There's absolutely no cons to playing random, besides getting the occasional bad random but you want those bad randoms to improve. Playing regular charts gives you bad habits.

You need to obtain the muscle memory of randomized charts or else you'll be only good at doing V another up and down chords.

By playing nonran all the time, your brain will be used to seeing stair cases, 1357 and 26 chords, bass on 1 key, etc. As density goes up, you're going to see the patterns you recognize but it would be more difficult to hit. You can't time what you can't hit.

The brain will remember nonrandom patterns unconsciously. You're going to remember how to hit certain patterns on time perfectly, which isn't a problem at all. But for patterns where you are consistently getting normal greats on, that can be a problem. It becomes more difficult to score as density goes up.

I started playing randoms after I made it through 6dan. There's not much reason to use it until you've got a solid understanding of the basic patterns and hand-placement.

When you hit a wall, just go back one difficulty level and turn on random.

Oh yes, in that case I agree; I've experienced all of that while playing. I can hit stairs comfortably but GAIA always kill me. Every. Single. Time.

I'd say it's still worth doing regular at least once to see what the song was intended to be played though, THEN you can random to train sightreading and avoid repetition; I never knew Mei was a staircase chart until I played it with random off.

For IIDX's scale, BMS level 0 is about level 11 to Liberation [a], and BMS level 1 is about AA another. Bad Maniacs is probably a 5.

Nothing is harder than a BMS 13 in IIDX, but timing is way more strict.
