oh, and i changed the wallpaper to something weeb. i haven't done much with it overall though - it's my first smartphone and I didn't want to fuck it about with shitloads of apps and shit, so i pretty much removed everything i could.

fuck i don't even know if you'd still call it a smartphone, i just have it for shitposting, inconspicuous recording of school girls, and maps to get around japan. i don't know what I'll do with it when I get back home, it was pretty expensive. I'll probably keep using it for the better half of a decade like i did with my last phone. it just seems like overkill though.

rice = flash custom ROMs or create them yourself and put the on your phone. basically like a skin with some additional features that you could download for free back in the day for the old phones except here it's going to void your warranty and might disable your phone completely (bricked)

(Obsessive) customization. It's a term used on /g/ mainly in relation to desktops.

>> No.12217844

>>12217830
Yeah, you have no idea what ricing means or what custom ROMs are. They're completely unrelated and done for different purposes. You can rice a stock ROM, and most AOSP-based ROMs like CM or Omni aren't riced at all by default.

Also, custom ROMs are pretty fucking idiot-proof these days for the vast majority of phones, though in some cases you're right that they can void your warranty, but so does regular old SuperSU. With Xposed, there's not a lot of need for custom ROMs anymore anyway.

>> No.12218170

A term first coined in the automotive culture referring to "Riced out" or "Rice burners" which are import tuners (Honda Mitsubishi etc) that modified their cars instead of buying domestic. While it always had a negative conotation, it began as mainly a domestic tuner term and eventually came to mean any car in general that was horribly modified for looks rather than performance ie body kits on a dead stock Honda Civic. It is now main stream enough where anything gaudily modified by its owner is called the derogatory term "riced out"

My guess when it comes to computers it could refer to all the blinky light fans people buy which are mostly poorly made and provide no additional CFM to cool the computer etc

>> No.12218174

>>12218170
My guess to phones the term "ricing" would refer to modifying the OS to be subjectively better looking without changing the major function of the phone itself.
