I think the fact that it took this long for F/HA to get a finished translation shows just how little the VN community cares for Fate. Unfortunate since it's got a lot going for it, but what can you do? On top of that there's going to be a lot of hate about the translation quality in this thread. Maybe /vg/ is discussing it more actively though, I don't go there so I don't know.

>>12214779
>>12214736
What this means is that it's very highly rated amongst the people it's made for, so if it's the kind of game that's up your alley, you can feel confident that you'll get a particularly enjoyable experience from it. "Good" is subjective, but yes, of course it's actually good - if you're the kind of person that would play it. Are many of the people in this thread that kind of person? Unlikely.

>> No.12214854

>>12214830
So because you don't understand Shakespeare, he's an overrated hack. Right. You probably don't know this since it isn't your first language, but the English language has changed over the years. What sounds strange now was perfectly normal back then. On top of that your "point" is completely empty, since if it wasn't from Shakespeare it wouldn't have been there in the first place. It's like that BECAUSE it's a Shakespeare line.

I also think it's hilarious that herkz is so classless that he doesn't know Shakespeare, so he just jumps right to calling it "quality English."

So wait, what specifically happened? Some random guy put together a 100% patch himself with the stuff that was available? 12214893

>>12214854
>What sounds strange now was perfectly normal back then.
Which is precisely my point. Maybe it did sound good back in the day. Nowadays, however, it reads like shit. But because we agreed that it's good - because it's written by Shakespeare and therefore automatically good - it's considered beautiful, even though if we encountered such a sentence without it having been written by Shakespeare we would call it awful writing.

Picture related, it's art far more beautiful than the art in that image; people once decided it is, therefore it's true. If you disagree you're a philistine.

>> No.12214900

>>12214890
Yes, that's exactly what happened. The person who released the patch quickly released the project leaders did NOT like this, so he deleted his mediafire download. But it was too late already. Now everyone is either really mad at him or laughing uncontrollably.

>> No.12214902

>>12214893
I don't know how I'd react if a VN came out with sprites and CGs looking like this though.

>> No.12214904

>>12214893
But we WOULDN'T encounter a sentence like that outside of the context of Shakespeare and his contemporaries. It also does not read like shit unless you are somehow incapable of understanding it.

"Our revels now are ended. These our actors,
As I foretold you, were all spirits, and
Are melted into air, into thin air:
And like the baseless fabric of this vision,
The cloud-capp'd tow'rs, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve,
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff
As dreams are made on; and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep."

It is a fact that this is beautiful regardless of who wrote it and when it was written. It being written in a different time only serves to explain why the style is so different from today's writing.

>> No.12214910

>>12214900
That's pretty silly. But hey, if it led to a release for a patch that wasn't coming any time soon, I'm all for it. Looking over that thread, that place has an extremely unpleasant community, so I'm glad something like this happened to shake things up. It's also much more amusing than someone intentionally (and maliciously?) leaking it.

What? Fate probably has the strongest userbase in the VN community. It's just that we have this "unspoken rule". If someone picks up a project, no one else will pick it back up, no matter how long it takes, unless it's officially cancelled, or a machine translation (F/HA had that accident but it was already fixed).

>> No.12215242

Well, perhaps, but that userbase isn't here on /jp/. Though I think it's less an unspoken rule and more the competent translators being lazy/uninterested/pansies. That sounds like a good name for a Fate spinoff, come to think of it.

If effect, Dovac is using Kickstater as a store to sell preorder copies well in advanced while getting publicity for doing so because the press loves Kickstater. Kickstater does heavily discourage multiple projects before earlier projects have been finished and shipped and notes that they "rarely permit" multiple projects at one on their creator questions page, so if Dovac plans to do this continuously with other projects, at some point it very well might crash if Kickstater decides to stop allowing his projects.

I would think /jp/ would like Shakespeare.

Taming of the Shrew: Stranger takes the strong independent daughter of a rich family, locks her up, and tortures her into becoming his willing slave.

Romeo and Julet: Tragic love between a shy man and a 13 year old girl.

Midsummer Night's Dream: Fairy love potion hijinks.

"Place the tongue in addition to mountain twin
shake the motion, let down the river

I suck at the skin along her collarbone as I trace my fingers
along the valley between her breasts over and over,
her sweat-damp skin transmitting its scent
and slightly sticky texture to my senses.

And as I continue caressing her, I strain my ears
and make my whole body an antenna
and confirm the changes Tohsaka's."

It doesn't actually matter whether you like Shakespeare's writings or you think that his work is shit. The undeniable fact is that Shakespeare's plays have had a large cultural influence on creative works, and if you can't identify references to his works, then you are a plebeian. Like Herkz.

How the hell did you get that out of that paragraph? Good grief, people say all this bullshit about hating Shakespeare and then they go and show that they have no idea what they're talking about.

It's amusing to see multiple people in this thread making the claim that fans of Shakespeare only like him to look sophisticated. If anything, such fans are in the minority now, because the hive's mentality is to automatically hate his work because it is supposedly popular. Generally without understanding it, because they're so pissed off that writing that got famous actually requires thought to comprehend. Your posts are just more evidence supporting that.

Anyway, while it continues to disturb me to see people who outright dislike Shakespeare's work for shallow reasons, I will say that >>12217016

The first one was something like

I can understand the occasional meme they throw in there, that might have been in the original line (don't know, because they've been in MC's lines so far), but they change the meaning of every third line.
