How could a janitor reverse it anyway? It's not like they can delete the generals and hope that people understand that means that things need to be more decentralized from now on. It would be interpreted as "kancolle/idols/whatever is not welcome now"

Best fix would be for more people to make threads about the same topic outside the generals and phase them out slowly, like in /a/ around 2011(?) when they basically got rid of most long running chained threads for some time.

Basically the janitor, who we now know to be Saegrimr, /a/ offboarder, kigurumi retard, EOP and all-around massive joke, decided that he didn't like NEET threads and started deleting them for 'bringing in crossboarders' (when Kancolle generals existed at this time)

That was the entirety of it. The mods didn't even know he was doing it until they were told, and they just said 'oh well' and let him keep doing it despite there being no justification in the rules and despite the entire board being vehemently against it

It's true for all board-related threads. Kancolle is a video game, it's played by Japanese normals - not otaku - and belongs on /vg/. The rest you listed are all obviously not board related.

NEET threads are board-related, and were posted in and beloved by tons of people. It doesn't matter if you or Normie McNormieson, moot's moderator underling and buddy from SomethingAwful thinks they're bad, as long as lots of people were enjoying them - there was no detriment to leaving them up whatsoever, because as I said, this is not like /a/ or wherever you come from where threads are taking up precious slots on the front page. The biggest problem besides forcing users out of here (post rate is so low now. . .) is that ''more efficient'' moderator tools have made threads disappear faster. Half the fun of /jp/ since day one has been having random weird threads that would be deleted after a long time. That's where we were always most creative. Now it's "I like Kancolle" "Yeah... me too" "This idol is nice" "How do I x?" "You do x by y". >Nobody forces you to discuss shit in a general thread
You're missing the point - he said that people were circle jerking and that was bad. I'm just showing you that there is still circle jerking and there always will be since that's de facto what happens on an imageboard. We aren't here researching things. "Serious discussion" doesn't have a place since everyone here is a retard who doesn't know what they're talking about circlejerking with other retards who don't know what they're talking about. People here do know a surprising amount about various things but that doesn't change the fact that they are circlejerking most of the time. The idol threads, in example, are all circlejerks even if the average poster in there can tell you all the little details about his favorite girl. Huh, guess that's what I get for just skimming through it.
I'm going to ignore the obvious argument that the whole thing could be doctored and focus instead on the possible logic behind it. Since janitors can't see IP without a mod's assistance, they're left with pattern recognition and assuming that a similar filename/style of post would be the same person. So a "let the mod sort them" ban request could work by leaving the actual check off to the mod and using the ban request as both a post disruptor for 30m and a flag to the mod to check a suspect post.
Of course the whole thing falls apart if the mod just approves without checking and what I mentioned before about global 9 being too much hassle since it gets audited later and it's easy to find evidence that there was no ban evasion.

Anyway, seeing how it was ban evaders asking this anyway, the whole log sounds to me less "why did you banned so many people unfairly" and more "how could you know I was ban evading, you got us too many times". Hard to say.
