I tried playing it once but I had a lot of trouble with it. I feel like a big part of the game is missing. Like the part where they give any sort of implication as to what you're supposed to be doing. I may have been playing Elona and not Elona+. What's the difference?

Training only speed is a very bad idea. All the speed in the world won't help you if you can't even damage dungeon bosses. Killing dungeon bosses in high lv dungeons is where the real money is at too. Your bells may look like the break the game but unless you heavily invest in keeping them powerful by giving them good gear and keeping their stats/skills high they will easily get curb stomped and so will you when you start encountering some of the more scary things this game will throw at you. As an example the five head god enemy will devour your bells unless you've been training your bells in more things than just speed. Ditto for you.

Jure becomes useless later in game when your cure spells become more OP than her god ability.

I always roll high-luck characters in all RPGs and it really helps in Elona in all sorts of ways; luck is also quite hard to raise too. Her various stat bonuses also conform to my character build better, but I don't use her dagger. I like her pet though.
And having a cute catgirl goddess is always a huge plus for me, enough to disregard all the other bonuses and just care about this one.

Speed does have potential, but I don't think the blessed potions work on it anyway. Speed Upper is supposed to raise speed potential, but I never really checked. It goes up so slow with normal methods that AP is really the fastest way to get it even if that can be really slow in some situations.

It's alright, but pretty random. You're restoring about as much as a rod of mana does at around 10k favor for 30 stamina, although you don't have to worry about the rods exploding every time you need to recharge them. I'm more of a fan of Kumiromi, but the magic recharge is pretty nice for training magic and making sure you have enough for heal spells.

If you try it out, and it's something you forget that you have, then you're probably better off with another god.

there's your problem. if you make a few lvl15 +faith living weapons and find some 2/3-star faith gear, you can easily stack it up to 40k. then it far outpaces rods of mana. in fact, lategame it becomes the only viable way to recharge your mana in combat, especially if you get the mana shield AP ability. you only need the Faith gear to get the favor up, you don't need to wear it 24/7.

I've never personally tested if stacks are sold individually or together, since I just care about selling the item in general. However, yes, items of the same stack do sell.

I've only gotten mostly junk like empty baskets and stuff, nothing really important. I still plant and harvest them to train Gardening, though.

Mostly trash, rarely artifacts. Also you may need to lvl up your gardening if you want to plant some better seeds like herb or artifact one. Don't waste it if your gardening is low.

If you're talking about normal Elona 1.16, I don't think that bug has been around for a while. Noa quit and released the source to a few people, so the last real version of Elona was the 1.22 beta. The one most people are playing now is the Elona Plus mod, since the new content is actually in english. There's a lot of different stuff you can do, and the game has been expanded greatly. It has some problems, but has been fun for the most part.

There's an older list of changes on the wiki, but it doesn't stay updated because of the lack of translated changelogs and lack of interest. Individual pages have most of the new stuff, but there isn't really a centralized list with everything anymore.

If you're talking about face.bmp files for the NPC portraits, there isn't one that includes the NPCs in Plus. There are potential replacements, but they're done at a higher resolution that is used for player portraits. They don't scale down well to the smaller version since it's a different aspect ratio, so no one has bothered to finish one that just replaces the ones that there are alternates for.

I'm level 21, what am I supposed to be doing? Seems like i'm completely missing out on a bunch of stuff. I usually just do town quest board hunting quests until they stuff is too high level then take and escort quest to another town and repeat, doing dungeons at are at least 7 levels below me in the meantime. Around that level I was focusing on various money making schemes such as cargo selling, performing, dungeon clearing, etc. All of the money I earned was then put to getting a small castle which I stuffed full of magic vendors. Having completed that I started investing in all of those vendors until I got their rank in the 100s. The reason why you want to do that is so you can start purchasing potions of potential and other useful items from them to keep your stat potentials high. Investing in vendors in various cities couldn't hurt either. Also, when I got my small castle I took up farming and doing a shit load of harvest quests in Yowyn to get seeds for said farm. Farm will generate a food supply for dungeon diving and the herbs can help in increasing stat potential as well.

If anyone is interested, the precious weapons and armors on the wiki have values listed for some of the stuff that you couldn't find ingame. Like the chance of activation of the additional melee or ranged attacks, or how much elemental damage is added. Right now they're only usable as a way to compare the items to each other, since the numbers on their own don't mean much. If anyone can figure out what the numbers actually mean on their own, that would be a big help.

As far as beneficial ether diseases go, they did change the violence one in Plus so that you apparently take more damage rather than just lose DV, and they cap the amount of damage bonus you can get at 100 or something. Kind of another "no fun" change.

You should be able to see a special message of your god acknowledging the fact that you're ready to receive a reward. In my case, I converted an alter with a heavy corpse, bringing me way over the limit for Kumi's second reward, but when I prayed I also did not receive anything. It was only when I (savescummed and) offered another gift on the newly converted altar did I get his special text "You are my precious valet" and I got his 2nd reward after praying.

If you aren't a mutant, once you progress a certain amount into the game, you can sacrifice a bit of your life to add a 2 extra body parts to your PC. If you save scum a little, you can add a couple of hands, which really helps your offense. The tonfa can go in your shield slot while dual wielding, and will add some extra damage to your melee attacks that way.

Two-handing can get fairly strong if that's all you do, but you lose out on all the invokes, skills, and special attributes that you could put on those other hands.

Having your pet attack strong enemies that are faster than your pet is key to farming AP for your pet. This requires a lot of baby sitting though so I recommend you keep an eye on your pet and leash it to keep it from going too far from you. To increase your pets survivability you're going to need to level it which is best done by gene engineering and you're going to have to actually give it good gear too. They increase your damage and hit chance, but equipping your first claw imposes a percentile penalty to your hit chance (around 20%). You will level the shield skill while using them, but they do not give you a PV bonus the way normal shields do. They can be generated with "it decreases physical damage you take" and "it sometimes nullifies damage you take", which are shield-only attributes. Pickpocket levels based on the weight of whatever you're stealing, so you can level it extremely fast by stealing the heaviest items you can (up to your strength score / 2). The best candidates for that are trees (I think you need about 40 strength for the lightest ones), which you can find by entering a wilderness tile on the world map, then clearing out any monsters that could interrupt you. Eat something with "maintains dexterity" before doing this, and you'll get a ton of dex increases too. You might also want to do the bomb Palmia quest first since the feat you get nullifies karma loss from "you feel guilty" messages.

Since you can't steal precious items, the best things to steal are up to chance. If you toss a potion of sleep at your target and it doesn't fail to cause the status effect, you are pretty much guaranteed a safe steal unless you're trying to pick off a platemail. You can do that to steal from monsters too, sometimes they'll be generated with miracle/godly equipment that won't necessarily drop upon death.

I made one save file just to get reacquainted with the game after a couple years and then incarnated a new character, inheriting a couple useful equips (but nothing too overpowered, I didn't even get past level 17 of the main dungeon).

I really like the Juere Thief that I've managed to make. I can rob adventurers blind of all their good equipment, especially with the help of the Touch of Sleep fate; I also managed to find Lomias in a Party Time quest so I use his bow to draw enemies towards me. That usually poisons it as well and my little girl gets a hit in, and then I can put it to sleep or use a rod or just bash at it with the great sword I stole from a visiting adventurer.

It's worth mentioning that once you can clear dungeons that give near max payout, it's worth it to drop the mage's guild to get the fighter guild enchant discount. I still have a shitload of equipment that I want to get to +10 myself, and it takes much longer if you're worried about pets too.

is there a logical progression to spell attacks? I am level 30ish and magic arrow is my solution to pretty much everything, it handles most of the random shit that comes at me well enough but against "level appropriate" enemies it is fairly mana intensive and I usually have to run away constantly to regen mana.

When I tried to use different spells at this point too many things resist too much, nerve eye is the most "reliable" but is still resisted by a ton of shit and I have to magic arrow it to death anyway.

Not really, other than Crystal Spear and Magic ball being higher damage options later on. It's extremely expensive to get enough books to level those up to do a large amount of damage, but it's the next step. A few NPCs get a big natural resistance boost, and NPCs over 125 start getting a 1-tier bonus for magic resistance, but that still ends up being much lower than their other resistances.

The only other things you could do is make sure to pick up enough spell boost equipment to get your close to 3x, and use the Magic Equip with that to improve your damage and buffs when you get into real trouble.

I've gotten as many as four in one battle before. Just load up on cargo and cheer your pets on as they destroy the rogues, I guess. with a stack of christmas trees you'll get a rogue boss every two or three steps, so just take the walk from noyel -> kapul/vernis and sell em.

Tried to pull the Nuke your cave trick but one of them can survive nukes, apparently. And the one that didn't die has the Ether dagger which I wanted more than the bow.

The only difference seems to be that they start out a bit higher level, and so have slightly higher skills and stats. They could also displace you and your allies in normal Elona, but I have no idea if they still do that.

As for ones that you find, you can't capture them anyway. The only way you can get those kind of versions that I know of is from scrolls of ally.

I don't think this has worked properly in Plus for a very long time. It's hard to say why though, since the level based resistance has actually been spread out some and they should have slightly less than they used to. I guess it would have to be reduced damage from the nukes.

They aren't that great as far as starting weapons go anyway. A better starting strategy in Plus is usually just to pick up whatever medals you can and get the shield tonfa or whatever you can afford from Miral.

It's good because it's magic damage instead of physical damage. As such, it's defended against by magic resistance instead of PV. Early game, magic resistance is low and PV is moderate. Later, magic resistance increases and PV becomes less of an issue due to absolute pierce abilities. Shining wave also does NOT trigger elemental damage or invokes. I almost never use shining wave anymore because it deals LESS damage than a standard attack.

realistically, Zero Shoot lasts longer in usefulness than Shining Wave. It's a guaranteed crit, which you can combo with Charge, Provoke, and the like.

Well shit, my rods of domination that I was saving just disappeared out of my house into thin air along with some ore that I was hoarding and a hermes potion. No idea how it happened either, maybe one of the monsters that I summoned decided to steal my items before I killed them, or maybe my servants are stealing shit. I'm not too sure on the details but with 80 in magic device I'm able to capture monsters up to level 80 fairly easily, and the highest level monster I've managed to dominate was level 105 but it took about twenty tries and I had to savescum to do it.
