Does /jp/ still read light novels?

Why?

War and peace isn't even as long as Ever17. Tolstoy needs to step his shit up.

I tried reading War and Peace but it just doesn't make any sense. There are so many references to old stuff I've never heard of. Names of different types of historical things that went extinct a long time ago. I feel like you would need a ton of footnotes to understand what was going on.

Are you such a kid that you can't enjoy a good book without sex scenes or what?

You don't need to go to college to be educated. Most prestigious japanese high schools teach War & Peace in their curricula.

You're the one who suggested that weight was of import here.

I occasionally buy a bunch of them to motivate myself to read more in Japanese.

Then I realize that my Japanese still isn't good enough to read them at a decent pace, so I never get around to it.

What's more, War and Peace is always brought up when discussing long books, but in terms of quality it still doesn't stand up to a ~100 page book about a retard choking a bitch.

Read those books.

You're not a very good motivational speaker. In the time it takes you to make a single post to encourage me, I could come up with a dozen reasons not to do it. Don't underestimate my passiveness.

My Japanese isn't good enough so it can take me up to a week to read a single volume sometimes.

The only one I'm actively reading at the moment is Index.

I would actually like to read -more- light novels, just for the experience, and to take a break from regular novels for a little while. I hear most LNs are about the length of a short story. So I'm guessing I could bang one out in the afternoon or something?

I read them pretty much constantly, no joke. If nothing new I want comes out, I just reread stuff.

>> No.12184420

I guess I should say I like some light novels, but not the entire medium as a whole. I like stuff like Book Girl, Kieli, Spice & Wolf, etc, but not the pure otaku-pandering stuff.

>>12178483
More like a novella.

>> No.12184435

I don't like them at all. It's like reading an anime script.

>> No.12184458

I've only read Zero no Tsukaima and Index.

I'd read more but I hate getting into stories of any medium if I think they're not going to be great (I started ZnT on a lark and I'm a completionist, so...) so it makes it really hard for me to start anything. The only thing I really feel like getting around to is Book Girl.
