I will say though, playing IMZ right after a Rance game really makes me appreciate how Alicesoft cuts out the bullshit that pervades JRPGs. Not that Eushully's writing would really be good either way, haha.

Like honestly who wants to read the protagonist whine about how sad he is that he has to FIGHT and SHED BLOOD in order to protect people? And just go on and on about how he wants all the people in the world to be able to ~live happily~, does anyone actually find this compelling?

Rance is such a fucking good character because he doesn't give a shit about hypocritical nonsense like this. I guess I'm just getting too old to care about generic JRPG writing like this, I need characters who have some sort of personality/goal.

Finished with Aiyoku no Eustia and the first appendix I read just rubs things in, with Caim talking about how the only way he can ever spend time with Tia is in his dreams. All the other heroines get very happy endings, while Tia gets completely shafted. Then again, there was no other way it could end after all the build up to it. Rance is a good vehicle to get the story going and the Rance series has such a huge cast of characters with a lot of them being recurrent across several games too, it has pretty much one of the most memorable cast in eroge.

In the IM series for example the only characters I could give a damn across the series are Haishera, Rita and Naberius.

Finished Demonion 2. Ehh, just like the first game it's probably one of the mightiest works in the industry when it comes to the porn but they took the game in a really weird and (to me) unappealing direction. The first game was kind of "classy", I mean, about as classy as a fuck fest with this kind of premise can be. Astaroth was a proper Maou, an ancient evil conquering all the lands and women, no bullshit, only fucking into submission and conquering because that's what a Maou does. Caim is just a degenerate Rance-like perv "playing" Maou and the heroine selection and H-scenes reflect that.

This girl was great though, the perfect bonus heroine /reward.
She's some kind of outer-dimensional higher god-like existance with a mouth and pussy that are windows to the universe and she uses her time/space/reality warping powers to provide otherworldly orgasms leading to enlightenment.
Her whole concept is some creative shit, I'm in awe.

They are standalone games, so it doesn't really matter if you play Kikaijikake, you will miss some connections here and there, but that's it.

Kikaijikake no Eve is pretty nice game itself, you should read it some point too although it really isn't for everyone and is quite different from Amatsukaze. But it isn't really necessary to read as they aren't that connected or anything, you'll miss some small connections and thematic related things near the end that makes things bit more cool if you understand the connections, but nothing major that would ruin the experience.

13人の麗しきケダモノ was excellent, far better than what I expected.

I really liked Rei, and Kanade had a great beginning with her jabs about Mamoru's 竿 but sort of disappointed me later on. Maki's route, on the other hand, didn't make me feel sorry for her in the slightest. I felt like an idiot for even going down that route, I wouldn't even try it but I thought maybe it would make me like her despite her being the 悪魔. It's a real kick in the dick for the player, but at least it's better than a she sent all my friends to their deaths, but we're rabu-rabu so it's okay ending.

The bad ends (especially Rei's, because you see far more of it) were also shockingly cruel, even though the previous scenes had raised the bar quite high. They do a great job in making you feel like a merciless dick for going there.

It definitely seems harder to read to me.

The vocab is harder, although not "hard". But Dive was just so easy to read, that harder just means "I have to occasionally look up words".

But as the other guy said sometimes the dialogues just don't make sense. Like I can't tell exactly what some person is mad about, or when they make some vague reference to some other event I don't know what that event is. It definitely seems like a problem with the writing more than the japanese though.

It's not like there's anything like a consensus on which companies are shitty or good, especially when the staff tends to change from game to game like >>12111723 alludes to. Even when it comes to individual games, taste varies so wildly that it's hard to predict whether you'll like a game based on other people's opinions. Eroge is weird like that.

I mean, there's a guy in this thread who occasionally posts about how terrible Overdrive is, but I have no particular problem with them other than not being fond of the art style. I quite liked KiraKira, even. On the other hand, I really can't stand minori, but they seem to have a lot of fans, both in Japan and the West.

He is just saying that while he assumed the possition of Wizard, it wasn't to help Rina but to be a backup if she was to fail.
Ed asks if it's to make her grow up and Dimitri answers that an Officer is always happy when his subordinates gets more skilled.
Basically.
I don't see what is hard to understand about it

The writing in Baldr Sky Zero is certainly weird but it's mostly because the writer has some strong "habits", once you understand how it works it won't feel that disconnected.
It's still not well written though, especially compared to the flow presented in the Dive series

The part I actually mentioned, about him saying it was a miscalculation to get noticed.

And the hard part is the implications, not what they are literally saying. You gave a direct translation for the line about "an officer is always happy when his subordinates get more skilled", but why is he saying that? Is the implication that Rina was less skilled before, and has now surpassed Dmitri in some area? If not, what is it?

Then it's where Rina has to take charge of several battlefield at the same time while threatening the boss of the guys attacking them.
So yeah she grew up during that battle by having to juggle with more responsibilities, that's the implication.
I can understand your problem with it but that's just the way the writer write, it's not even close to the worse things he do, you have to learn to connect the dots with him.
I assume you are still pretty new to Japanese? Actually it's probably good practice to get better reading comprehension in a way.

Ok, I think I was confused because I associate "wizard" with the meaning of what Aki-nee and such do, and forgot that it was also used as the name of Rina's position, so I didn't realize they were talking about the battle in particular, and I thought it was some long term thing. In which case it makes sense that it's just that Edward realized it.

There is your dungeon which expends as game flows, you can build structures to get more resources or get new type of monsters. It may sound like a normal strategy but gameplay just does not work like in any good game.game, demonion does not require nor skill neither tactics, you just click your army through dungeon invasions again and again. There is a time limit on dungeons but if you lose you just retry with all the rooms you have already cleared. It got a bit harder when I got a second dungeon to care about and still you just drop more minions to fight and win is yours.

She isn't best girl or anything, nor does having a route for her make any sense whatsoever (Protagonist's mother). Got the Abi Ending in IMM and I'm not sure how to feel about it. In Zero it was sad, like most things in Zero, how Celica's first betrayal as kamigoroshi was from his first friend as kamigoroshi. But he was also a jerk and he was a huge jerk for a long ass period of time. In fact he ranks right up there next to the new gods as jerks to Celica. So just it seems so unbelievable that Celica can forgive him that easily AND that he can admit his mistakes so easily after CENTURIES of being mad with lust and corruption. Among who knows how many undocumented things he did he also absorbed the soul of a crazy as fuck human who wanted to kill gods and become a god. Atleast it's non canon and all but still.

Being as unspoiled as possible is nice, but that post was intended to be the kind of hypothetical that could never happen, like "I can see why you'd hate oxygen if you were an alien" or something like that. I mean hell, when you download it from most sites there's at least a cover image or something. If you can't tell what kind of game it's going to be from the startup menu I don't know how you function as a human being, the entire point of the cover is for it to communicate what kind of game it's going to be.
