Just finished Eris' ending in Eustia. This arc was fairly interesting, with getting a lot of focus on Sieg and Caim's relationship as well as Caim and Eris'. While Caim's attitude towards Eris annoyed me at first, it was understandable how he didn't have time/want to think too much about her, with the trouble with 風錆 as well as him being in denial about pushing his brother's dying words onto Eris. It still felt pretty bad slowly seeing Eris completely lose it, though. The scene where Caim strangles her and threatens to kill her after she suggests betraying Sieg was pretty powerful.

Well, now that I've had my H scenes with Eris, time to get back to the main story. Also, I love Tear's voice, especially when she is surprised. And her resignation to being called a 小動物 by Eris.

Memoria starts exactly from same moment at which Verita ended.
In Verita end they receive quest and begin their journey to destination, and Memoria starts with pretty much same CG during same journey, quickly retelling content of quest [omitting quite a lot of details about current situation, characters, and, obviously, alternative endings of verita which contained related to quest info] and then reaching destination town. As I said (twice), it's not like he knew the things that were revealed in it, he knew the same things as the reader. And he even used underhanded tactics in the friendly match, no excuse for that.

As for me, the true route made me appreciate more due to unconscious silver-lining behind his tactics, as the last winners were truly scarred upon learning the truth over their fake memory and friendship.. He was able to stop this trainwreck continuing, allowing the other well-intentioned teams to keep their good relationship amd exit this farce as quick as possible. For the friendly match, it was explained in dialogue they needed to show with preparation, they can win against the top team, as much as gather information (proof of concept). They were very unsure of their own ability because how overwhelmingly strong the top team is. For MC's team, it was anything but a friendly match.
Also I've read too many VN where the male MC supposely has a better brain (top score, etc) just flat out dumb/worthless in situation and just muddle through heroines in their routes, or rescue by heroines with little effort on male MC. At least this MC stoods out by kept on coming up with tactics and gambles to make up for the shortfall in his sword skills, so he was more equal to the more skilled sword users than otherwise. Underhanded? Perfect, if the emotion of the missing friend was so really strong, it would be a greater miss if he didn't pull out some rabbit trick to achieve what he really wanted (unless you want sudden sword genius MC in span of few weeks). So for me he was a pretty good MC.

Bluette was really an unexpected gem, She was the heroine I was excited for the least, but she's one of the better fits for Yuusei. They both failed in the things they wanted most, want to be of use to someone, and no family trouble since both are high class. She also has enough sexual desire for both of them, and that's pretty important when Yuusei needs to be rammed in the ass to get hard.
Merryl was just an angel, one of the purest girls I've seen in a VN. Her route also had a pretty good ending for the family, and working man Anthony was great.
Risona's route was kinda like Luna's in the last in that it really felt like a true route. As she herself said, she isn't as compatible with Yuusei as Luna is, but the route itself was pretty interesting.
I've gotta praise the game for managing to make me entertained even though the MC is the exact opposite of what I usually like. I wish they made a game with Aeon(?) as the MC instead.
The sequel really managed to expand on the first one. This time they focused a lot more on the family issues and the MC himself, though it takes him way too long to give up on being a designer. On the other hand, none of the heroines managed to be better than Luna or Ursule. Even the Imouto that finally got the route she deserved got overshadowed by the old cast when they appeared.

Also, I wish you could rape and make Liliane submit to you, but the reverse is more likely considering Yuusei is a masochistic pig.

The story made a huge and integral point about learning the truth behind their friendship, and how it drove one character kill someone early on and wished he had not learned the truth. Yazumi was clearly uncomfortable and angry either and his resolve was hardened after learning it. Practically stopped being nice and no friendly talks before the match. Hardly irrelevant. Also MC's team expressed doubt about their ability and chance of winning against Yazumi more than any other, you just see none or little of this against other team. Kei was notable for only doubting her own ability on thinking about Yazumi, not any other. The other sword dude was strong but Kei never expressed doubt she can do it. Also in that event Yazumi openly said by the end he held back and was guarded in mind, underestimated MC's team determination. This implied Yazumi realized importance for MC's team even for this event, it had more meaning than Yazumi expected.

Actually this is undoubtly true, it is better - hurting people once is better than hurting people multiple times. You expressed it yourself, how he managed to kept getting away with it multiple times and forgiven multiple times, which is why you got firmly digusted with him. If it was just once, say the beginning just to root out most of the rivals, I can only postulate you may look at it in a lesser "wrong" light. But this is a only a pure speculation on my part, with zilch, nothing on how you would really feel, plus the VN would largely change had it went that way.

He wasn't - he was the weakest of the whole team in sword skill, asking other girls to help him train in blocking/parrying, like he did with trying to take a blow from Asuna and ended up smacked flying to the wall, and implied he was doing that all the time (practice was only given one or two scenes for the entirety of the VN, and largely skipped details via words like "pratice attacking and defending for rest of the day", shit and lazy writing). Versus Yazumi he was markedly running and blocking more than any other, and in the final he was well exhausted and cornered. On the other occasion Yazumi said he held back and gave a handicap. If he was a sudden genius sword MC he would be whopping arse and go head-to-head without running around (and part faking/planning, part real) like headless chicken.

He makes no pretense about what he did, should he apologize for what he did? Trash talk before and afterward is common in real tournament since you kept on bringing real tournament up. Also meeting the plead from people you care about and forgo his usual way is hardly a scumbag action.

No, he was. Quite early on he spoke about the edge each of the girls has - speed (Touri), strength (Asuna), flexibility (Ruruka) and experience (Kei). He himself only has his brain as edge, which is why he had to resort to risky tactics where it may not pay off. Why take the risk when you don't have to? He is risk adverse from the start. He plays the defensive style not because he wanted to but because he has no offensive edge. During the fight with Kouga, Kouga even remarked MC switched to attack and managed to get 1 complete attack out. That's how much of a lop-sided gap between MC and him.

Could've been shut down from the start, but artistic (LOL) writing licence meant he got the OK. Otherwise the VN would have to restart from another premise. Is this bad writing? He barely got any attacking move out, let alone attack on Kouga. Got exhausted while Kouga was still pretty good shape. Then also by the story, he faced the other shitty teams first and won, so inadvertently he brought more time for practice. Again if he is truly to par with Kouga, say just on the defence, I don't see why he needs to take extra risk in tiring himself out with the extra running from wall to wall. Faking it at this point where Kouga already knows and saw a few times what the MC would do would be counterproductive.

I recall my impression at the time was the opposition team was shit and not used the whole thing, never thought it out and thus lost. Also being the first match both side had minimum time for practice, neither side had any skilled user apart from Kei. Both being shit was plausible enough for me.

I did - his emotion on the childhood friend was repeated multiple times overwhelming (dream/image multiples), as if the writer was using a sledgehammer to carve in this overriding message. Hence I took this as in as being too effective. Also the last winner revenge fag was showing similar syntoms - overwhelming kill/hate aura that went away after his memory got erased. He was remarked by different team to be different a person all together afterward, which MC also had a small contact/observation on. A gentle person that got twisted by fake memory -> revenge. To me this suggest some are more receptive to the impact of this fake memory magic than others, and MC isn't alone on this.

In the trial, Yuugao gets a mark (like the one in that girl's head) and starts losing control of herself. She also gains, if I'm remembering correctly, control over magnetism. I finished a route yesterday, so here's a mini-review.

The common route was pretty average. There's a ton of flashbacks about how the cast met and their relationships, which is all cute and dandy. It's not as funny as, say, Onigokko, but it had a nice balance of comedy and serious moments. I think the weakest part was that Izumi, the tsundere who unsurprisingly loves the protagonist, comes off as nothing more than a bitch. It really contrasts with Tsubame, who very gladly accepts his jabs. Speaking of Tsubame, she's a goddess and I found her to pretty much be my dream girl, so I guess might be a bit biased.

Her route deals with the relationship between her and the protagonist reaching a critical point after basically stagnating for so long: they have always loved each other, but they never did anything and just fooled around, assuming that none of them held romantic feelings towards the other. You could see this coming from a mile away as it is constantly implied throughout the common route.

The first part of her route is about gaining the courage to take a step forward and "not letting go of what is important to yourself". While the prospect of having to go through the drama might put off some people, it was executed fairly well and really drives the point of how Tsubame changes. Hikaru also had a nice role as the "evil" one, prompting Tsubame to take action. Once that's done with, you're on the feel good train.

Started Racial Merge, did the trial so I kept the trial content and not far beyond that. So far 3 girls have warmed up, 1 is guarded against this muscle naviety/innocent/do-gooder from country farmland.

Now that the shackles are gone, the two open their hearts to each other and embark on a journey of pure love and lewdness which you really don't see much in eroge. The interactions from this point forward are a delight to see: they aren't afraid to show how much they want each other and are constantly flirting with each other, and there was some really, really cute and silly situations like the protagonist performing cunnilingus for 12 hours straight, leaving her in a messy state of pure ecstasy. Seems a bit of a dick move, but the way the scene was presented was quite sweet. To be honest, I don't think I'm doing a good job at describing the strengths of this route, so I'll just leave it as being everything that moege should be.

There's one small section of drama later on once Izumi breaks down over losing to Tsubame, her best friend. The result was nice: Tsubame no longer has any doubt and tells Izumi to man the fuck up. There's also a few short monologues that drive the character development home.

Along with the decent art and cute designs, the nice soundtrack and voice work and how the route itself was satisfyingly long, I can say that this is one of my favorite eroge now and that PRETTYxCATION better step it's game up. Issues I could point out is that the drama could have been a bit shorter and that Hikaru should have had her own route.

So, yeah, from the little I've played, I found it quite good and a real surprise.

I die a little on the inside every time I come across a VN that asks for the original disc to be inserted prior to uninstallation.

I'm not sure yet how the true end will turn out but I have a pretty good idea and its probably not going to be any happier than Toko losing all her limbs, a lung and a kidney.
