I was testing walking sprites and needed a background + object to interact with. I think I might keep the cat image and put it somewhere secret in the final thing or a reference to it. Thinking spatially and using some compass and straight-edge constructions doesn't really count as math in today's world. And if you meant stuff like the golden ration it's more like an empirical thing. It's just a number which appears often in nature. Lots of 2D games use painted backgrounds. DeluxePaint (the gold standard for 2D game art in the late 80s/early 90s) could handle both pixel art and digital painting.
The key is, unlike in the image you posted, they kept the background at the same resolution/"pixel size" as the sprites. If you do that, it makes things much more consistent.
I dunno if you're handling your game's programming or using some off the shelf engine, but the easiest way to force yourself to be consistent about this is to do the entire game in some fixed resolution (320x240, 640x480, etc) and scale the resulting frame up only at the end, for display on the user's monitor.

Looks a lot better, but the color limiting algorithm did some weird things to the image, like the slightly red rock in the center turning green in places.
I think you should skip the posterizing step and not worry about the color count too much unless you're willing to redraw all the backgrounds as proper, color-limited pixel art.

I used 4 or 5 different shades for skin starting at a very light yellowish hue gradually going towards a warmer red to red violet. For tools I used the basic round brush along the other with some airbrush and wet oil. Also is there something I can fix about the face or are you just not a fan of the style/wide? Short clip of the part you wanted more hype in, I think? I didn't do a whole lot because it's tough for me to not just begin completely re-writing other people's songs, but I upped the octave for the first part of the "chorus" part, did some other silly stuff and change some of the rhythmic feel to it.

I think it helps to give the low end more influence over the feel of this chorus-like part by starting the beginning in the next octave up.

Go look up people's faces and head shots, note the shape and placement of features, and practice sketching them for a while, then go back and try drawing heads/faces again. Doing that will give you more help than any criticism I could give about the shape or placement of the features. This is all you need to show her boobs if it isn't translucent, and if those marks are boobs, and assuming they weren't squished more together. Quit avoiding them touching the pattern and make the pattern look like it's curving over them instead. If those likes are supposed to be something other than boobs, they're still going to have to partially take on the curve of the boobs while still showing they aren't the boobs.

They're not really wrong, but there's a bit of miscommunication as it looks like you're trying adamantly to draw the boobs as circles. Also even in the way you described it, comparing it to Asuka, it sounds like the patches should be like Asukas, and just little coverings over her boobs (go look at a picture of Asuka's suit again). What you seem to actually want are some sort of boob-pouch instead of a patch over it.

Unless they're specifically made to seperate her boobs and hold them to the sides though, I don't think you're going to be able to see the X in the middle of them at all, just like you wouldn't from the front of that image.

Are you using the airbrush/blur a whole lot? sometimes that can be a bad thing as over blending colors can make a picture look muddy or too glossy and it loses definition.

I'm not sure how to do the backgrounds for my game. I think what I am currently doing is breaking the parts up into sections for where the screen would see and breaking them up into their own managable blocks with their own vanishing points so it doesn't get too weird.

Adventure game studio allows me to have multiple backgrounds so I can make frames with the lights off and just switch between them periodically.

This one has been giving me trouble because the screen size will be 640 (320 x2) so anything 1280 I split in half and make two unique one point perspectives. Plus I am not very good with buildings and architecture in general.

I might try working on another one before I get burnt out on this one though.
