It should have increased the relationship number, talk to them to see it. The karma penalty kind of makes the aphrodisiac food impractical, though.

If you just want to make a gene, take the pet into the puppy cave and let them kill stuff. Give them just enough equipment so they won't die, so you can give them as many engagement items as you can when you're walking around. Then just let them kill as many things as possible, and the relationship number will increase every time you see them use the heart text bubble. You need to get their impress up to 200 or so, and it stops showing the exact number after a while, so you really have to be patient.

the puppy cave method is pretty damn quick. You can also give them gift items, and once they're "friends" or above, tokens of friendship (super easy to stockpile. 1x small medal, 1x gain material scroll and an empty material box)

Gifts and tokens are usually better to save for adventurers and targets that you want to use an astral light pen on.

Getting adventurer relationships to soul mate usually makes them give you stuff when you meet, as well as giving you the highest quality new years gifts in January. Of course, if you already have a Five Horned Helm, the piano, or the mauser, you might not care as much.

They sell them for a lot more than you can, anyway. If you get your jeweler and alchemy skill high enough, or stockpile jeweler amd alchemy equipment, you can also use the jewel fusion with the gem cutter to make them sell the stuff for more. 28k for one of the diamond ones, I think. There's a lot of neat stuff you can do with them, but my favorite is to stack a skill that normally you couldn't get to that level on one item. That takes a lot of save-scumming, though. You can get a higher spell multiplier than the Vital Flayer if you get it to near level 15, although over level 10 gets blood sucking. This means if you get one high enough level early, it can make a huge difference. You can also stack stuff like pickpocketing, literacy, or do something like stack marksman on a melee weapon if your character is mostly ranged. I was trying to stack luck as well, which is really hard to get on something otherwise.

Almost totally sure it doesn't increase her level. Kill her at will. You'd want to do it anyway if you want to pick up the feat jewel she drops. I think her Pitiless version might drop it too, but even if she does it'd be a lot easier to pick it up from little Gwen.

You can actually use an astral light pen to recruit her fairly easily if you manage to get one early. After that, she can be evolved into her larger form, although it's nowhere near as strong and gets no additional abilities. Alternatively, use the pen when you get to 50+ on Pitiless, since the level required to recruit people with that has been halved now. Although if you had a pen, there are several non-god bosses you could pick up at the same level if you wanted to go through all the trouble to do it.

Gene engineering is a useless skill if you think about it. much easier to grind up Dominate, and dominate level-adjusted monsters from Panic quests. You can easily get things with 2000 on all stats (including speed) and several hundred skills this way.

You can dump pets that you aren't using off at the dojo, although this costs some gold to do. That frees up a spot. Once you can do the maid mansion quest, you can buy a discarded ranch from the same guy that sells you the mansion. You can drop as many pets off there as you want for free, although you have to go back there to get them if you want them back in your party. They don't count against your god pet limit when in the ranch/dojo either. Not 100% sure about the dojo, but the discarded ranch for sure.

I did a ton of replacements. It's pretty fun. The only one I kept is from the MP3 pack, for the title theme. Of course, some of the music doesn't play in the normal game in English because of the skipped cutscenes. This kind of makes it easier to add tracks that you want to use for maps like your home without changing music in other areas of the game.

At first I was on a floor where there were a bunch of little girls which didn't attack me. Then I went one floor down and the game changed the bacground music to a peaceful one. Handful of eleans appeared. I thought I had found their secret camp or something and went to greet them with a smile on my face... They surrounded me and killed me.

Was that a randomized appearance of eleans or does that always happen in a certain dungeon? Would they still have killed me, even if my own race had been elean?

If you've never seen the monster before, the only way to know for sure without checking the wiki is to try to bump into them. If you're playing with the default settings, a neutral NPC will always be displaced instead of attacked, and friendy NPCs will open up a dialog window. Neither one will attack you unless you attack them first, or do something to piss them off like get caught stealing.

NPCs in dungeons are always going to be the same, whether hostile, friendly, or neutral.

Once you buy the maid mansion, there are a couple of wells on the property that you can pick up. The only problem is that they weigh 600 stones, and from what I remember most pets won't touch stuff like that. The number of flying scrolls you'd need would probably be overkill.

If it's just for looks, you could probably use Garokk's item modification thing with a different sprite on some furniture to make it look like a well. It wouldn't be animated, though.

I was going to throw up something real, but god knows how long it'd take me to get around to finishing it, so I'll just upload what I have and let people pick on it. I had an old item sheet that had a ton of shit I picked up modified, but I ended up destroying it somehow, so I'm really disappointed in my current one which I barely did anything to. Same with the map ones. The reason the zip is so big is because of the stupidly large layered character.xcf which holds a lot of alternates. Wasn't planning on anyone using it but myself, but go for it if you're interested. The only thing I can really promise is that it won't immediately crash your Elona. Just dump the bitmap files in your graphics folder and you're done, unless you want to back the graphics up if it wrecks stuff somehow.

You can pay the taxes afterwards, although I don't remember if there is much of a karma recovery. Just try to keep your karma as high as you can before the month passes, so it's easier to get out of criminal status if you get that low. The karma penalties get worse the longer you don't pay, so be careful where you are when it reaches the next month.

Probably the easiest way early on is just to take a few stat/gold penalties by dying to guards in order to finish quests that give you heavy negative karma like that and the Red Blossom quest. Just dump EVERYTHING you don't want to lose somewhere it won't disappear, like your home or the Vernis thief hideout. Then die to guards a lot until your karma recovers.

The guild isn't that useful though, so you might want to skip it for a while until it's easier to get to rank 1 for the silly extra quest.

The older Elona versions automatically resized characters using the pcc parts differently. You can see the difference if you go into Options->Screen & Sound and change between Full-Size and Reduced for the PCC show option. I'm pretty sure I've sold speed rings in a decent level shop before, and it didn't really get close to 1m for one of them. Shops improve what you get for things compared to selling them to merchants, but I can't imagine conditions that would lead to that much improvement. Unless you are really strong, doing dungeons that give you a good gold reward is tough too. Since you have to spend so much time doing quests for platinum, the gold just tends to come secondary until higher levels.

I had some pretty good luck selling crafted stuff in shops, although that takes some time to get working. Panties sell for a ton once you can craft those. You'd want to pick up some equipment with tailoring on it to get your skill high enough to make better stuff. That's useful to do for nearly every skill though, and it'd take time to collect if you haven't started already.

Anyways, Speed Rings are among some of the items you can easily hit negotiation cap on how much you can sell them for which is really saying something considering the fact the player character sells equipment for 5% their cost.

A shopkeeper gets far better rates, but even then the sell cap is tied to your shopkeeper's negotiation skill as well.

With a very good shopkeeper with negotiation equipment you can get 20k-40k selling cap, but even selling the most expensive items will still have the items selling at the cap.

If your shopkeeper had infinite negotiation he could sell equipment like speed rings or seven leagues for millions, but generally they're just going to hit their negotiation cap.

Frankly, I find it far more invaluable for when shopkeepers sell miracle and godly equipment for more miracle and godly equipment. I'm a bit sad Elona+ now autosaves when your shop sells stuff, but I guess it's an exploit for the most part to save load until shop stuff rerolls into something good.

Oh, reading it, it just says it will have a cost of 1 million. That's accurate. It will cost YOU over millions to buy superior material speed rings.

It says nothing about what you'll actually get selling it which depends on your shopkeeper. If you make a super shopkeeper with extra slots and as much negotiation equipment as possible, you can get quite a bit, but I don't think the effort is worth it compared to just adventuring normally or selling sushi.

But yeah, the player character has a hard limit of 5% of cost when selling equipment. Superior material rare equipments are the only types of equipment you'll generally ever hit your negotiation cap when selling.

Shopkeepers don't have the 5% hard limit and just sell equipment like they would most other stuff.

Frankly, unless you have an absurdly high level shopkeeper with tons of negotiation equipment, your shopkeeper won't even begin to graze the true value of superior material rare equipment when selling them.

It's awfully tough to go full magic early on. It might be easier to stick with some ranged weapons until you can find enough Ancient Books to join the guild. Even then, it can get pretty expensive to buy enough of the better spells to use full-time, and you're still going to run out of mana often. You might spend some more time in the Puppy Cave, since you can pick up a lot of random spellbooks to train your literacy and casting. I've heard some mages start with grenades if they can find them, since that will occasionally train control magic as well.

Once you finish the Tomb, you can pick up the Staff of Insanity, which will improve your magic by a lot.

I don't remember there being a real starter guide for mages, but maybe that would be worth someone's time. Because Plus has constantly changed the game system, any suggestions might not last that long until they stop trying to tweak different stuff in the game.

NPC spells work differently from PC spells. From what I remember, there's no spell levels or potential, and they depend on magic stat or casting. You can get a couple spells for them from the AP shop, but it really takes a lot of AP. You can pick from a couple of different attack spells or debuffs. You might have to spend a little more AP modifying their AI to make it use them, though.

I just started one myself, I'm level 11 or so and doing fine. My tips:

Buy a Juere Infantry pet, they're cheap and fairly powerful. Use the Fairy's naturally high charisma to your advantage and get lots of pets to do your dirty work.
Get gardening ASAP and do all the farming quests for loadsa plat. It will also grind your learning stat in the process. Then get sense quality, weight lifting, and cooking.
Buy every single magic dart book you see.
Go to a blacksmith and upgrade each piece of armor you have once. For just 1500 gold, you get (iirc) +2 DV and +2 PV. It adds up very quickly across all the gear you have, so that you can become fairly durable and evasive at little cost and little effort.
Start clearing out low level dungeons, among other things you'll get lots of spellbooks (which, of course, along with rods, scrolls, and potions, you should identify immediately).
Don't be afraid to train light armor, evasion, and even weapon skills on weak enemies. The putits in the tutorial are great for this, you can easily hit level 3 before you enter Vernis for the first time, but obviously you're past this point.

Well, I've now played on the default difficulty and there are actually significant differences. The elona wiki is incorrect.

Character levels are acquired faster.
You can aquire additional spell stocks by reading books in shelter.
Enemies don't seem to be able to do unique attacks like the player can for example do with a bow when "zero shoot 2" happens. Atleast not early in the game.

I'm really disappointed in the developers of Elona+. No future mode was fine except for the stupid karma penalty for killing dogs and hounds. Now this feels too easy.

The other one posted works too, but if you're doing Plus, some of the landmarks have changed. I assume you're using it for treasure maps, so it might be a bit easier to find things in some areas with this. The colors might be a bit off since I had to reduce the file size to get under 3 MB, though.

A cheaper way to find what you're looking for is to modify the paper.bmp file so that you can see the map easier, but that might be too much for some people.

I've already noticed a problem with it, though. The areas that have the light colored grass tile that is normally under towns or locations doesn't show up on the map editor, which is what that is captured from. This is a bigger problem in areas like the Cyber Dome, which shows up as a forest in the map editor but uses the tile when the area is seen on the map. It isn't consistent about where it shows up either, so I can't just paste it under every location without checking first. I did some fucking around with it today and looks like to me it's pretty much just a weaker Riding ability. Speed has to be about the same or the person with the highest takes a speed penalty to match with the lowest and in combat you occasionally get "Partner A defended Partner B" which of course means that the partner covered the other to take their intended damage. The Tag Force ability you get activates on based on gauge for IRC about 40% but I don't think I saw it really do anything statwise.

It's pretty clearly an incomplete mechanic though so it can improve.Also if you wanna be cute, you can ride something and then set up a Tag.

There is this really nasty quest that's been implemented as part of the undersea palace, where the queen takes you to a map to kill a boss and some really irritating enemy help. Until the boss on the map is killed, there's a random insanity effect that not only makes it tough for you to fight, but also kicks you out of the map when it reaches a certain level. It doesn't help that the boss is right near a bunch of tsathoggua that spam eye of insanity.

The fact that you can't equip some items is new, since those were wished for before in wizard mode before to check the stats, since they didn't appear in the game otherwise. It's probably related to the new item enhancement with Irma, to try to keep items from stacking tons of enhancements on them. The items seem to get to a certain "score", and if it's going to be above the limit you can't enhance it further.

There's an old item quality score in the item stats, but I don't know if that's what it uses.

Don't do it, it's a trap. Also, compared to the Dal-i-thalion, almost any seven league boots will be sufficiently better, so long as they're of a decent item type and material. The better travel (and hidden speed boost) will be pretty much better no matter what.

Instead get a pair as a reward from the scientist for rescuing little sisters.

It's not hard to find good armor that doesn't weight a lot, even if you want PV over DV.

750 hour guy here. I prefer medium armor. under 35s is very easy to stick to unlike light armor's 15s. also the medium armor's special ability gives an extra 20% of spellpower which is not replicable by any other means.

on the subject, Holy Shield will more than double your PV at high levels. Also, there are two ether diseases that will provide level-dependent PV bonuses:

"Your neck is extremely thick" gives PV at the cost of the amulet slot. Considering you'll eventually get +255 PV from this, it's worth it. Even more if you play a race with nonstandard slots.

"You are covered by a heavy carapace" gives PV for a speed penalty. Which means no penalty at all if you're riding.

What does it mean when an equipment "maintains" something.

Is it beneficial for character growth to sleep as often as the character is sleepy? Are there any negatives to sleeping as often as possible?

What does it mean when "some skill" increases (happens during sleep)?

some skills are important to get really high, others are okay at low levels. figure out which is which and spend accordingly.

Oh yeah, elemental hound packs are a bitch to fight at low levels. Try a scroll or a rod of teleport and hope you can smash them one at the time at a corner, but you should clear some random dungeons and do some leveling first. As you can see Lesimas gets difficult real fast.
