So let me get this straight /jp/ is not about Japan?

>> No.12004484

>>12004480
Then why is not called /otk/ or /neet/?

>> No.12004485

>>12004480
The catalog does, so I sometimes get confused and post about Japan.

Does it say Japan/General, spergking?

>> No.12004490

>>12004484
Because back in the day /a/ the progenitor of /jp/ had a shitload of touhou threads and other japanese shit weebs liked. So /jp/ name comes from other japanese shit that isnt manga & anime related.

>>12004484
Same reason /g/ and /n/ have their names.

>> No.12004494

>>12004490
And with the creation of /int/ all the real world non otaku related stuff about Japan migrated there.

So now /jp/ is a really niche board about niche tastes. You can think of it as a /vp/, /mlp/ or /lgbt/ of /a/ if you will, but much less cancerous.

>>12004484
Because it started as /jp/ - Japan General. It's name was changed later on, but the abbreviation wasn't.

>Tra/n/sportation

Actually /n/ was originally the /pol/ of the good ol' 4chan. But back then moot wasnt as open minded and was "IF YOU DONT LIKE TO SUCK OBONGO WIENER THEN YOU ARE KKK" so it was trasnformed into Transportation as a rib to the old /n/.

>> No.12004506

It's not about Japan unless you're Sean.

/g/ was for gore, bro.

Holy shit, forgot about that one. It has been ages since we had a /g/ore board. Does /d/ carries gore now?

And /jp/ is for Otaku culture, which has significant ties to Japan.

>> No.12004511

If by Japan you mean "japanese things," then yes.

The old joke goes that nobody here actually likes the country itself.

So I can make Samurai threads on /jp/?

As long as you post the toe-hos dressed as samurai, I don't see why not.

yes but /new/ is still around. /n/ was the original /new/

There is >>>/newnew/ and >>>/newpol/ but who the fuck actually uses the text boards.

I'm not referring to the text boards, actual /new/ is still around, currently under ddos attack.
