That is just an artifact of having finite time and space, Kancolle is new, but it won't be new forever. Touhou is still the biggest thing and it has stood the test of time. Only people who go for the flavour of the month are 'leave' touhou fandom for Kancolle, and they'll eventually leave Kancolle when something else comes up. The actual fans are fans regardless.
