Eustia uses a bunch of weird kanji, in part due to its apparent allergy to katakana (the only katakana loanword I can remember it using outside of names is, hilariously, ペニス). Lots of political terms and titles, as already mentioned.

Is choco chip confirmed to be a female illustrator? I'm also playing through Bakuane and it's pretty delicious but I've never seen confirmation on choco chip's gender. If it's true that would probably mean my preference of illustrators gravitates more to the side of female illustrators rather than male illustrators.

Finished Bertille's route. Not gonna bother with the rest, it was kind of bubbly and irrelevant and sometimes funny, but all in all, the jousting was too boring to go through two more sittings.

I tried Dies Irae but I don't like it as much as I hoped. Which is strange as I'm usually a sucker for over the top stuff. I think my problem is that I really don't like the MC and the story takes itself too seriously while being so ridiculous. Hell, even the few hours of Muramasa I've read by now had a few jokes that made me laugh.

Currently taking a look at Muramasa because my Japanese is much better that it was one year ago when I tried it for the first time. I like it so far, despite the mock up not-Japan history being tedious at times.

Going through Kimikishi - I like the MC is a schemer, uses brain and not afraid to take whatever chance that's offered to him. Now the problem is whether it can keep up, as character's intelligence can't exceed the writer's, and whether this trait simply gets whitewashed when you hit the heroine route and go fluffy.

I'd suggest at least try sticking through the first two routes if you didn't read that far already. The first one is a bit meh until the very end, but stuff really picks up during Kei's route. The beginning and all slice of life parts were easily DI's weakest point.

Also agree with the dunce protagonist. Almost all of the antagonists ended up being much more memorable and likeable than anyone in the "good guys" camp.

>> No.11871199

I guess it's just that taxing and unpopular for the writer's head as personally wouldn't mind reading more. Looking at how kimikish progresses, I guess the whole thing is a little bit on the short end, like 20 hours or less.

He's certainly pretty dedicated to his objective.

I've only done Vivian's route and his tactician side did get thrown out, but not thanks the reasons you might be expecting, for better or for worse. It also confirmed my suspicions that her route was going to be an extra for a variety of reasons, but at least it was quite sweet while it lasted.

I plan on doing Ruruka's sometime soon, but so far I'm left with the impression that it could stand to be more fluffy. I thought I was getting a moenukige and lots of tits, but then it decided it was time for serious plot.

>> No.11871233

>>11871199
KKK had more likeable protagonists, much speedier start and in my opinion the game being shorter served well in cutting down the repeated exposition and some needless slice of life that DI had. Also having a more interesting setting helped a lot.

As negatives the antagonists were less varied / not as interesting and the story got a bit too preachy towards the end. KKK also had some big issues with pacing due to how the "routes" were structured. Basically each character pairing epilogue ended right before the very final climax and each time you were forced to start from the very beginning in order to read every pairing specific brief branch which was quite jarring.

Also in case you didn't already know, reading DI before KKK is essential or you won't understand anything that's going on.

Finished Daitoshokan.
As I expected, it wasn't nearly as good as Eustia, but the game was interesting so they didn't completely waste the money they got with it.
The worst part really was that, except for Kodachi, all the heroines I was interested in(Mochzuki, Ureshino) were only side routes, and they kept pushing that moeblob that isn't nearly as cute as Eustia in my face.
The plot was pretty interesting on the other hand, and I wish there was a route where Kakei becomes a shepherd and goes on adventures with his father.
I also really enjoy what august does with hair and cloth textures, it reminds me of the Steins;Gate art.

Why would anyone get hyped for this? I'm not saying Daitoshokan was a bad game nor that the sequel is going to be shit, but the only route who need a continuation is Tamamo because they never got to her, supposed, strict family and a route where he becomes a shepherd, though this can be considered as "bad" end, maybe working hard on the supposed main route (Kodachi) instead of giving a short second route for the other heroines that are just worst than the original would be a better idea for their next game.

Another thing is that I don't understand why they keep pushing Tsugumi as the main girl in all the shots that show them all together, even though Kodachi is the closest of a true route and Kanasuke is the most popular, or at least that's what some claims.

>> No.11878081

>>11878059
>why they keep pushing Tsugumi as the main girl

Because she is the standard front screen heroine, a safe choice where they could do no wrong. It's basically an anchor point/low bar where the writers pulls things together, even though Kodachi is the true link in shadow. They know their audience well, so it's doing a fan service by giving her a fair portion of content. Kodachi and Kana will be prominent though. IMO Senri was remarkably weak so I wonder if they address any of that.

I'm not really feeling this. The fights have been rather lame so far, both in concept and execution and they felt the need to tell me that Kaede doesn't have much experience with men at least five times up till now. Do you drop VNs, /jp/? At what point do you decide to? It seems like a lot of VNs are supposed to be boring as shit and the payoff is at the end, 50 hours later. Or they look like ass and the art is supposed to be no indication of quality.

Finished 運命予報をお知らせします.
It was the first VN I've played that dealt so little with the girls themselves and so much with the whole concept of love. It was painful to play at times, because it kept reminding you that not everyone is a winner in a love story.
The worst part about it was definitely the MC. He kept being fooled by the "villain" character, and specially in Kaho's route was really hetare.
The game also had so many errors and voice/text inconsistencies that it makes me wonder if they play-tested it at all.
Though I did have a lot to complain, it was a pretty fresh experience, since I had never played anything quite like it before. Overall I had fun reading it, but it could've been much better implemented.

She drugs Caim and runs away out of some misplaced sense of being a burden and not being worth the care they're giving her, despite being reassured over and over again to just shut up and accept it.

She has to know if the wing hunters don't get her in seconds, some thugs will rape and murder her in a back alley before the night's even half over. No plan, no actual thought, just wasting all the efforts of everyone involved in some moronic self-sacrifice that will accomplish nothing except give Caim his (presumably) big hero moment.

I can handle that stuff in a silly moege because no one is expected to have any degree of intelligence, but this one keeps wanting me to take it seriously. And I can't take her seriously if she pulls something like that.

Glad you enjoyed it, I liked it a lot as well despite the evident low-budget-ness. It was a surprisingly different experience from what I expected.

I didn't find the MC bad at all, the only reason he was such a wuss around Kaho was because she'd already rejected him once, and said "villain" didn't help things with his master plan. That said he did swallow a lot of bullshit, or at least let himself get swayed multiple times by a proven pathological liar, so yeah.

Caim has his own reasons for keeping Tia, and in the beginning, he's not keeping Tia because he cares about her. But of course that doesn't mean he wants her to go out and kill herself either. Tia has realized the former, but not the latter. So she leaves, because that's what her personality is like. She's like sugary goodness incarnate. It's not that she doesn't know what'll happen to her. She feels that she's a burden to Caim, so she wants to get rid of that burden at any cost.

But really, if that makes you rage, you'll be throwing your computer out of the window by the final chapter. You might want to drop it well ahead.

Caim wanted to ditch her on the road after she's done her job. And he still plans to ditch her after she runs away. So she is a burden and in Sieg's mind not worth a cent but only trouble. When Tia stays with Caim she is putting him in danger of being caught by the hunters.
When she runs away, she is prepared to die so of course hunters and rapists are not what she's concerned about.

Huh, that's interesting. I did them all in order and there was a real sense that Kaho's was meant to be the final route. Hime was my favourite as well, her common route segment was great. Especially the play.

Even if he's going to leave her in a ditch/whore her out afterwards, they're all going to considerable lengths to keep her safe and happy for the moment. It's a selfless action so stupidly selfless that it warps right back around to being selfish.

I just can't deal with that type of character. Which is unfortunate because they're often main heroines. Had the same problem with Clannad. A girl intentionally doing something she knows is dangerous/stupid because she feels she's being a 迷惑 makes my autism flare up something fierce.

It may not always be (pure?) Kirikiri. See if there are any engine-specific tools, just in case. TLWiki is a great resource to check engines.

In the order they are listed 3>4=1>2, magic power is useless by the way, you get a far better thunder magician than Serika so focus on the sword techniques. Raise the other two from time to time too, but not really high in priority.

What about the 7th (魅力)? Should I just ignore that?

>> No.11884452

>>11884436
By the other two I meant 精神力 and 魅力. The first one gives magic resistance (important but you get it through other stats too) and some magic while the other is a bit more general.
Basically, I went the whole novel without raising 知性, works for verita too.

I really didn't expect this to be as good as it was.
Sure, the MC wasn't as good as Kakei, but the girls were pretty good(specially their designs), Sakuya managing to be a better moeblob than Tsugumi was. It was also better than a lot of moege that had more time to make you relate to the characters.
Actually, I just can't wait for Nozomi's H-scenes.

Yeah, Nozomi was cool. Looking forward to seeing more of her in the fandisc. There are some lewd magazine scans floating around if you really want a teaser.

My problem wasn't the characters so much as the length, which made everything feel like it developed at turbo speed. I guess you could label it "short and sweet", though, rather that than dragging on for too long.

How does this series work with all the sequels and prequels? Do you have to read all the games in order to properly get into it?

Of the first three, 1 is probably the best.
2 and 3 are almost literal rehashes of 1, and as such probably aren't worth reading unless you really like a given heroine, or like the design/VA of the new heroine from 2.

Although I honestly feel like I'm kinda late for the party, I've been playing 穢翼のユースティア.
Just finished エリス・Erisu's arc and fell in love with her, all the while realizing she'd be one tough bitch to deal with if in real life heh. Just kidding I'd take take her home anytime.

The story is strong in this one, but has minimalistic finishing arcs for the other girls.
About the weird 漢字 usage, I found it pretty okay. Sure sometimes you gotta do some research, but I'm fine with that. I actually liked how much they avoided a lot of katakana outside names, although upon glancing "抽斗", I sure puzzled myself on why that choice of 漢字. Also, loved "不蝕金鎖".

Anyway maybe it's Chrono Trigger's fault, but I really love that "floating city" stuff. If dudes in this world of ours dread earthquakes, just imagine how of a new level would it be a earthquake while floating in the skies. Pretty it's not tectonic plates' fucking fault this time.

Rising up above some of the other eroges, this one doesn't have a completely retarded and useless "protagonist's best friend", but instead a powerful and competent leader of the 不蝕金鎖 as a friend. Although he DOES say stupid things every now and then, this time it only adds to his charisma.
