Camerafagging it up a little since that's always relevant. Got the 18-55 kit zoom for my EOS M today and did a comparison of that (a ~200€ camera system) with my 5D Mark II and 24-70 f/4 (about 2000€ together), with the same 430EX flash and tripod used in both pictures.

So despite the huge difference in price, in controlled conditions there's no difference in image quality at all.

Then again, in low light situations or with moving subjects it's an entirely different story, but with dolls even a cheapo mirrorless can work pretty nice.

Eagerly waiting for a sister body and a DDH-07 head to arrive, the girl in the picture is going to get the DDS body and I'll put the DDH-07 on the DD2 body she has right now. Not sure yet if I want to keep the 07 or not, I'll have to see once the package gets here.

I like the picture on the top right a lot! The bust seam always looks a bit awkward, but now that the arm's covering that, the curves of the breasts and butt look nice. The sister body that I'll be getting (hopefully) soon has the 1-piece torso (so it's originally off a Melty or Haruka, I think) - looks a lot nicer than the regular ones but dunno if it's stiffer to pose.

Yep. The M seems to do a little brighter colors with unedited RAW, but the focusing isn't always spot on, have to take a few pictures to get a crisp one for sure.

There's something funny going on with the hip joint that makes one leg protrude a bit further than the other. That combined with slightly loose knee joints made standing poses a nightmare. Dunno if it'd be possible to take it apart and see what's up with the hip joints.

The other DD2 I have does stand up a little better, but the Sister seems even easier to balance.

Are you sure it's the hip joint? I would guess that's more like the thigh joint. Can you push it up into the thigh more? Look, I'd help you out if I could, you just need to strip off the vinyl and tighten the whole shebang. Get your little screwdriver and tighten the knees and the thigh joint.

I tried taking apart the body now and the thigh joint indeed seemed to be the problem. Tried to push it up a bit, but didn't help much, looking at a disassembly video that's a very tight fit and the guy in the video had to use a hairdryer to heat up the plastic. In addition, there was something small loose inside the thigh that moved when I rattled the piece.. o__o but since it's not completely apart, I don't think it can be any of the screws, maybe a small part of plastic that's snapped off or something? Weird.

Couldn't get the leg itself off the hip, probably would just have to use a lot of force but didn't feel like it yet.

At least the body was a cheapo $100 one from Y!J so doesn't really matter, especially now that I've got the Sister that poses well.

Took the headband off Haruhi's wig, seems to suit the 07 girl pretty well :3 starting to like her a bit.

Oh how I want to buy Miku. There's no way I can scrounge up enough money before the 11th, though.

It's very possible you lost the screw from the thigh joint, the plastic bits are a tight enough fit that unless under pressure the joint won't dislocate. You need to go ahead and pull the hip joint. Pull it straight away from the body, not towards the feet but outwards. Then you'll heat the thigh with a hairdryer to remove the vinyl. That'll give you a look at what you're doing, and how to fix it.

I had the same problem anyway with the thigh joint on my DD2 after a couple years so I had to do it recently anyway.

You'd at least get your own money back for sure. Saber Extra and Alter 2 were also preorders for the usual 66000 jpy (I think?) and they go for a bit over that at the moment. Even though there was a lot of them originally sold, fullsets are being split all the time so complete ones do gain a bit of value.

I think the Lucy Marie Misora ver 2 is like the only doll that actually sells for less than the original price nowadays.

I think photoshop's definitely the way to go if you want to take nudes of the doll - painted-on nipples look really dumb if the color shows through thin clothes and with actual blushing it's harder to get the color the way you want compared to photoshop.

A good tip with bust pieces with nipples that stick through thin fabrics (..so pretty much anything besides the S bust) is a small bit of eye putty to act as a bra, haha. I don't really wanna sand off the nipples either so that works as a non-permanent way to make them not show.

I got a cheapo body off Yahoo!Japan, bought a blank head, commissioned faceup for that, bought eyes, wig and some clothes and all of that was probably around 300€. So it's possible to start pretty cheap, unless you absolutely have to have Tamaki or one of the White Album girls as your first doll.

Yesterday went for more outdoors photographs, and while the conditions were a lot more favorable (no rain or dogs this time around), I'm not too happy with how the pictures turned out either. So today after work took a trip to the photography store and got a polarizing filter and a small reflector, maybe those would help (and also an off-brand cheapo gorillapod, can't think of a better way to spend 10€ on photography equipment than something like that!)

That's still $100 cheaper than buying a standard DD model. The complete character (I think her name is Air-Chan?) is closer to being $400 which is still cheaper than a base DD model that just comes with underwear. Also her eyes are not decals they're going to be animetic and it's a 60cm~24inch doll. I think that's pretty cheap but maybe that's because compared to aftermarket DD's which range in the thousands. I'm still really interested in getting one of them and I'd lying if I said the ahegao face didn't have something to do with it.

The dolls are manufactured in Japan by our own company so I don't believe the quality of dolls will decline. But be aware that there are a few defective items that have been made (most notably the old DDdy Body and some of the MDD bodies). But if you notify within the two weeks of receiving it you can exchange it with no questions asked.

The operations at Volks USA has little to no involvement in the actual process of doll manufacturing. We're just having an overhaul in preparation for the new webstore layout, and we're also in the process of moving our office to a new location............

Not the Volks dude, but you have a few options.

1. Buy a limited model on yahoo japan auctions or Mandarake. Their aftermarket price is higher than the retail value.

2. Enter the next Volks lottery or pre-order, which will be for a limited edition character. I believe you can still preorder Miku for a few days

3. Buy one of the standard models. They come pre-painted and are less expensive than the limited characters

4. Buy a blank head, or a painted head from yahoo japan, and buy the body, wig, eyes, clothes separately. If buying a blank head, you will need to commission an artist to do the faceup. This is the cheapest option usually, but takes the longest to assemble your waifu.

*Quick note: The pre-owned dolls from Mandarake are inspected by the staff and are usually in good shape. Many of the cheaper dolls have stains from clothing, but these can easily be removed with RemoveZit (a product made specifically for getting stains off of dolls). Mandarake heavily discounts dolls that are stained, so if you wanted LE doll, this is a good way to save money.

Got two new pairs of eyes of my girl - the H Types that she's had are really dark compared to most, while the DD aesthetic usually tends to work a bit better with brighter eyes.

I didn't want the stock Mayu F Type eyes since the wakaba color of those is closer to yellow in my opinion.. the new ones are Type K and Type J, but not sure if I like these either! They are a lot brighter yes, but they're so radically different I'm having a very hard time getting used to how either pair looks. Out of the two, I'm more fond of the top pair though.

Also in the picture is a Volks outfit set. The materials are very nice and the overall quality otherwise is a lot better than cheaper chinese outfits (snap fasteners, metal hooks and mini zippers instead of just velcro everywhere), but unfortunately the size isn't the best possible for a DDS body, since it's a one-size-fits-all from resin to DDDy.. oh well, maybe it's possible to adjust it a little.

Those are 24mm Ronronshuka resin eyes I got cheap in Japan. Try trolling dollfieworld for them. Parabox has some nice greens too. I was never real fond of Twin Snow, because they charged way too much shipping. That's an insta-turnoff for me.

This time I photoshopped the eyes a bit darker compared to the original to make the iris stand out more. Looks a lot more "Japanese style" (rest of the world seems to have a bit of a different style of dolls and photography, too) now I think, but lacks the gentleness that she had with the H type eyes.

Does any /jp/sies here have any first hand experience or know all the types of dolls that the dollho will work with?

I guess it is mostly designed for the Volks DD, but will it work with other models? Like what about Mini DD? Or DD Sister?

Also, what about working with other doll maker dolls? For example does it work with Obitsu? Is there any other makers/models that work?

The Dollho TYPE O60, as its name entails, was designed specifically for the 60cm Obitsu body. I've seen pics of TYPE VDD used on smaller DD; it sort of worked but doesn't look very good.

I've used both models V60 has a bigger cavity, and VDD is tighter. I've watched plenty of dopyuu videos in my personal collection. The best dolls to use the dollho with are the DD's, 60cm obitsu bodies, Yamato's Vmf50, and eventually their own brand of dolls Libidoll. Keep in mind though that MDD's are a tight fit since the dollho is shoved up the chest cavity you may not have a lot of room and might squeeze it. The dollho is quite soft and fits like a tight sleeve so if you unload with no room to deposit the goop may just squirt out like in your Japanese Animes and get all over her clothes. Pic related.

Feeling wise, I personally think that it depends on which bust you use.

The smaller opening of the standard DD bust makes a tighter feeling that you can "push through."

The larger opening just below the breasts on the DDdy bust makes a softer, squishy, more open feeling.

Personally, I feel like the differences between the two models is more gimmick than anything; despite, like you said; one has a longer cavity than the other.

A bit lewd this time, the new eyes seem to change the doll's character a lot.

Also a test of my new 85mm f/1.2 L II lens - seems insanely sharp stopped down a little (f/4 for this picture), the hair seems actually a bit _too_ sharp for my tastes and I had to shop out the reflection of the camera flash and a poster I had on the opposing wall from the doll's eye, haha! Getting the focus right at f/1.2 is insanely hard, and the 95 cm closest focusing distance adds another degree of difficulty with doll photography, but the over all image quality does seem worth the trouble!

Dolls alone have gotten me into photography. We get them all from Japan. I do not have any input in the face-up process, I'm just a hobbyist.

From what I understand is that they're only sealed once to protect the head itself from staining. Then they use lacquer paints for the actual painting because it dries the quickest and is a little more durable than using water based acrylics.

Other than that they don't put any sealing coat on it to protect it which kind of sucks.

The other employees here are mostly DD fans. I'm originally a fan of the SDs but it seems like my interest in DD have now surpassed my original love of the SD.

As for Rin... I don't think I would be able to have the chance to snag her since another employee here has already gotten dibs.

I think I'm the only employee who doesn't own a large number of dolls. Everyone else has well over 6+ separate dolls. I personally only own one SD and one DD ( I also have a MSD that's not from Volks though.)

As strange as it sounds it seems like everyone else doesn't have their own bills to pay. They spend the entirety of their pay-check on their dolls. They mostly have their parents supporting them with bills, gas and stuff.

There are some thick skin colored tights that you can put on your doll to be able to conceal the knees if they bother you too much! The only draw-back is that sometimes they get bunched up and look obviously "fabricy". Think of like those body suits that Kigurumi wear!

Another option that you could do is to have your doll constantly wearing thigh high socks. But then again.. Staining is a problem.

I had some staining issues with the Atlethic/gym bloomers set already but i managed to get out the stains with the RemoveZit from Twin-Pines. My only gripe is that it's really hard to remove since the paste isn't water soluble. It also smells strongly like bleach and vinegar. Also when you wipe it off it looks like the vinyl is a bit swollen too. But it seems like that goes away after a while...

You can use a DD head on an Obitsu 47cm body to make an MDD. The body is around ~$200 which is about $100 cheaper than the MDD body. DD heads are only around $45... But you would need to paint them yourself.

No, not at all. Not every clothes stain (normally just the darker ones) so you can leave them wearing a provenly safe set (including underwear) and a safe wig (over a head-cap) for long periods of time. It's advisable to give them a periodical check, though.
