I don't think WUG is going to be that ironic or critical of idols, it'll turn out to be a typical uplifting idol show because that will make far more money in merchandising.
It'd be interesting if it became a commentary on the power of local, indie idols that fans can really meet versus the distance that's unavoidably created with big groups like AKB.

Sorry to ask, but I've been searching for half an hour. I want to see a decent live performance of Hoshizora no Caravan, and as I see it, besides usual TV performances there's only the latest NMB and AKB request hour which feature them. Problem is, I can't find a torrent for the NMB Request Hour at all and only miserable DVD Rips for the AKB one. Closest thing I got was an mirror of the BD, with 125gb, but that's more of a last resort.

I agree somewhat, but you also need to acknowledge that Myao hardly got any real chances to shine. She pretty much was put in the background most of the time. I don't know whether that's the cause of her work ethics or if they were the issue to begin with, but at first I thought Myao would try it really hard. Completely agree on her looks, not on what you said about her appreciating her fans though.

I also have to say that I was always really impressed with the effort which Amina would put into things. Like learning all of the dances in her freetime, writing a script for the girls to enact and so on. And still she was pretty much overlooked as well, or maybe that's just how I feel about it since she's my oshi. Got more time to shine that Myao at least.

As for Amina, she had talent and developed good experience in theater and got a very good voice to challenge Kugimiya, but personally it seems that she really got bumped down by more attractive or charismatic members, as sister groups began to form and diluting the pool, resulting in so many choices for wota to vote for. Also, we know that 2ch seem partly to influence voting decisions for wota, especially that a vocal minority could make or break a member's standing.

I saw a lot of people deciding to vote for Sasshi just because she was #1 in the prelims, even though she wasn't their #1 oshi. You can also of course see this happen on Twitter too.

As an example of what I am saying, let's say the people in the Natsu thread on 2ch are well organised and make a concerted effort to powervote for her, and get the vote out early. As a result, she ranks in 48th place in the prelims. All the casual HKT fans who just want more HKT girls to rank, see the results and think Natsu has a better chance of ranking than their actual favourite girl does, and decide to at least give a few votes to her. So in the end Natsu has more votes than she would have had she not ranked in the prelims, and maybe she even ranks overall. Not to mention people on 2ch will make efforts to advertise via twitter, their friends, etc. And pertinent 2ch threads will show up on matome sites which are read by lots of people who don't necessarily read 2ch itself.

How much of an influence 2ch actually has is impossible to say, but to say they have no influence on not even just the election, but no influence on anything at all, is a bit hard to believe in my opinion.

How many of you taught yourself Japanese? I've been trying to teach myself for about 7 months now, but I'm getting nowhere. I spend about an hour a day studying (every day), but it's amounted to nothing. I know and can write about 300 kanji, know probably 700-1000 words, have most of the grammar from Genki I down, and that's about it.

I'm too embarrassed to join a class, what am I going to say when people ask me why I want to learn Japanese? There's no way i can say because I like AKB.

I wouldn't say you are getting nowhere. You are just maybe going a little too slow. You say you know 700-1000 words. Let's assume you know 1000 words. At 7 months, that means you've only been learning about 5 words a day. Let's say you need a vocab of 10,000 to be able to read a newspaper. At that rate it'd take you 5 years.

It's fine if you want to take kanji slow, but try to increase the speed at which you are learning vocab and also focus on studying grammar a bit more. Try to translate some simple stuff, like a kids manga or something, to help you learn the structure of the language more.

Yoshimoto treats its girls pretty well compared to the other 48 groups. They gave Ainyan, a mid-tier member, a fantastic graduation send-off (though technically more like welcoming her into a different part of the company, nevertheless, a wonderful way to mark the end of her NMB career). It was on a huge stage and they had comedians she's worked with to come cheer her on.

Meanwhile, a girl like Amina can only expect a graduation stage in the theater.

It's not just about appearances in shows. It's how they treat the girls. You may not be able to give a group all the appearances of AKB but if you treat the girls well they'll stick around even if they aren't getting the attention they think they deserve at that time. Which is what you get in NMB.
Meanwhile in SKE the girls aren't getting the attention they think they deserve, management treat them like shit, feed them shit and just don't give a fuck. Hence all these graduations.

I don't think Ainyan was a midtier member. She steadily raised in ranks after Milky's suspension and that resulted into her ranking even higher than Nana, NMB's third most popular/pushed girl at the time. So it was within expectation.

I agree that it sucks for Amina's situation though...AKB is too big, and they're not really promoting seiyuu idols. Whereas Yoshimoto loves his talentos and Ainyan happened to be an aspiring one.
