U-can is an educational company. While the wage numbers for the more popular members may not really be known, I think Oya did say that they don't really make that much. In the early years, some members even had to pay for their own rides and such. So if you lived far... Don't know if that is still the case or not. They also treated AKB as more of a cheap way to get training for what that really wanted to do (singer, actress, etc). They were extremely happy when they got hot foods instead of cold bentos.
