Way too luck based. All your party besides the leader is determined by random drops. Don't get good monsters as drops and you'll have a hard time with anything. Game Over if party leader dies which is especially fun if later enemies can potentially do that in 1 round. Suwako is also simply the best party leader, with others being unable to really do anything great. No depth to most of the combat, especially against other player teams. Either you deal enough damage in the first turns or you die. Repeat for most fights with never any need for buffs or status. Only the final boss can mix that up somewhat. PVP means connecting to twitter and running into A.I. controlled teams of other players. A.I. is too dumb to do anything, even if the other guy has only endgame monsters like Neo-Demiurge. It's ridiculously short., even if you grind for some monsters. Getting extra items to strengthen monsters is almost impossible thanks to extremely low random drops. You'll play through the whole game without getting anything. Use up all the items you find and you're out of luck if you want more. How you'll have to place those items to get certain monsters in the first place is all up to trial and error. If you play this game after GoS or even Dod, you'll just wonder what they are doing. Why are they making this twitter shit now?

Wandering Trainers were flawed yeah, but it was only meant to be a little bonus where you can get extra monsters by winning. You didn't even die if you lost.

Game gives you more than enough stickers/seals to power up your monsters. Especially if you used the Vending Machine passwords.

The game actually explicitly gives you hints for that, but the Trial and Error part was very easy to do due to the fact that all you needed to do was put an Evolution seal and place seals next to it.

Also, before anyone even tries to argue it, Weekend came out like a year and a half after GoS expansion, so for almost two years that game was fucking plagued by bad design decisions, like the 30 iron ore grind for the Kusanagi, the Youmu character item forging trap, the 3way party splits (it's still plagued by this) doubled with some lopsided character balancing (Cirno and Nitori being really bad and Byakuren, Satori, and Sakuya being downright amazing, and Alice being downright required).

I'm not saying that Devil of Decline didn't have its own share of flaws but shit, I sometimes wonder how Genius of Sappheiros is so well received sometimes.

I like that way better than DoD and it's empty shell characters who have pretty much nothing unique besides their last word and some stats and if you include optional stuff like the Kusanagi then DoD is just as bad because fighting some monsters hundreds of times before they join is just as much fun as grinding for items.

I won't deny the having to grind monsters to get them to join part, but the worst rate in that game was like 1/128 (F tier, and only one monster had it), so statistically it shouldn't have taken anywhere the same amount of time. That being said I did have to kill like 250 Decarabias to get one to join.

That being said I prefer the way DoD handles characters because I can just pick who I like out of the available choices and run with them. It's a much better system in my opinion than GoS's because, despite everyone having specific niches and unique things going for them, some of them are just straight up irrelevant (Nitori, Cirno) and some are just good enough to where it's hard to justify not using them (Sakuya, Byakuren, Alice).

Could DoD have done better in regards to character diversification? Sure, considering that most of the character diversification was under the hood and not visible (like hidden values which determined likelihood for generating specific skills; these values are only known because of datamining). Does the fact that everyone is rather samey on the surface hurt it? Yeah, sort of. Does the player get a choice on who he wants to run, knowing that he won't be horribly screwed over for not running some other character? Of course.

I've finished the game and expansion and I never felt the need to have her in the party. Youmu/Reisen/Yuugi have more damage and Private Square trick is completely unusable outside of the boss fights due to bomb limit. One of the previous GoS threads had a person who finished the game without Byakuren/Satori and he didn't have much problems without them. Nitori is super great in certain boss fights (if they have elemental weakness). And Cirno is baka, yeah, they messed up there. One character out of 10+.

You can clear the stage portions with a single party. Boss fight are easier than usual and you can beat them only with 2-3 characters in party.

Comiket itself is definitely a lone-wolf event, unless you have very good friends who share similar 'tastes'. In which case, you can team-share the purchase lists and split up to cover individual halls or sections more quickly, or spend time standing in queues.

Having attended 6 times before, I will admit it's literally impossible to get everything you want if your list includes any of the popular circles/artists stationed around the outside of the halls. Either they'll be sold out by the time you get there, or the queue will require you to wait so long you'll miss out on a half-dozen others you like.

I've always been able to fulfill ~90% of my purchases with a trip to Denden town a day or two after Comiket- the stores in Akiba are constantly picked clean, but stock in Osaka lasts a bit longer.
