Why is this supposed to be scary?

If you saw an umbrella with an eye and mouth hopping around irl you'd be pretty creeped.

I'd stick a finger in it's eye.
Seriously, a big, glaring weakspot that also work as your primary mean to sense things around you is too much of a tempting target to not hit for the hell of it-

Some of them have 2 eyes though, sometimes 2 legs and arms

>> No.11747780

The "scary" part of these things was that they snuck into your kitchen at night and made a mess out of your pots and pans, or leaned over your bed until you woke up to a direct view of a giant slimy umbrella eyeball. They aren't going to kill you or drive you mad, they just exist to be total assholes.

I always wondered why japanese people think a flying blue sphere of fire is scary. Something like pic related.

Do you realize that this thing is even in European folklore for pretty much the same reason (since they're caused by the same condition)?

Big cities are the most scary and dangerous place in America! You have a lot of a certain ethnicity and gangs and whatnot.

It's the opposite for a good amount of people on /jp/, think about it. How many of us do you think are comfortable in crowded places, out in public? In a constant state of fear in situations like that, even though it's actually safer than being alone (when in public). Afraid, even though that there's probably little to be afraid of.

Perhaps I'm projecting, or maybe I'm just especially paranoid. All I know is, people scare me more than the thought of a monster. I'm not ignorant of the statistics, and I know that most people aren't out to get me and it doesn't make a damn bit of difference.

sadly when it comes to the horror genre, too many people expect scream out loud/ gross out antics which just doesn't describe the genre at all.

This is now a Yokai thread instead of "I'mu a silly ironic OP with a silly question I didn't really think through" thread.

So I haven't been able to find anything on a real ape like evil creature lurking in Japan except for this image, which is Japanese. Before someone claims that this yokai is the same thing as Oni or the racist portrayls of either white Russian foreigners or the Ainu/Emshi, STOP, because they're not and I am not talking about the same concept here.
