I have over 26000 manually saved Touhou images. Sorting them by game and pairings have resulted quite convenient.

Just by character. Or similar characters, like SDM, Lunatarian; that sort of thing.

By Touhou?

by name. if there are 2 touhous in the image i either put it in both folders or pick whichever one is more prominent. if there are 3+ touhous i put it in a separate "groups" folder loosely sorted according to typical families/games.

I had a file tree but it was shit and useless so two months ago I got frustrated and dumped all of my H collection into the one top level folder. Been telling myself I'm going to set aside a week to take care of organizing it all but I've realized how autistic I would have to be to manually tag and sort 300+ images. I'll probably get bored and do it anyway though.

File tree is incredibly arbitrary, though I'm thinking on switching from fetish-based to character-based. My non-H folders are also untagged which annoys me.

Also how come I can't usr tags to search for images in windows explorer?

Delete them all because they're of no use to anyone. Let's be serious, do you ever look at them more than once or twice? Maybe rummage through the collection to post an image of a specific girl once in a while? Just del the whole lot and start living your life.

What do you do with your thousands Touhou images? Spend evenings looking at them? Or is it purely to collect them?

If this was 1994, we'd be hoarding newspaper clippings and promotional pictures of gunplas and arranging them into fanzines at Kinko's at 3 in the morning alongside the anarchist punk kids. This is really no different, except that we no longer have to turn our basement apartments into fire hazards with our private archives.

We tried this once before and things didn't really work out too well. To no one's surprise really.

If I don't have many of a certain 2hu, I just put it in a general Touhou folder.

This folder also holds sub-folders for characters that enough images to warrant it.
Before I purged the ones I saved "just because", my Patchouli folder had over 700, not including lewds. I now have 437pictures that I genuinely like for some actual reason or another.
Lewds follow a similar pattern, with specific folders inside a catchall folder, which lies in thr same folder as my lewd doujin collection.

How many places do you have your touhou image folder backed up?

I have one copy on my computer, one on my laptop, a monthly backed up tar on my server, and one on a portable hard drive at my grandmother's house that is updated every year.

I just sorted about 1000 of my images into folders. I'll resort them to solve the problems with my scheme before I sort the other 7000.

I sort them by character, and images with two or more characters, go into either the "couples" or "lots of touhous" folders. I haven't sorted these yet, but I think I'm going to sort them by character I like better, like "Yukari" and inside that folder "and ran/chen/marisa"

I also think I'm going to have folders in the "lots of touhous" folder called "EOSD crew", "PC98 Crew" etc

I have 2833 touhou images, and I think about half of that is either Yukari or Okuu.

This is exactly what I do.

I gave up on sorting by folders because pics with multiple characters are impossible.

Use a program for tagging them. I've used Hydrus Network and Picasa but I'm not sure I want to recommend Picasa.

I have about 45,000 Touhou pics, not including the many doujinshi I have stored on my computer.

Luckily I started sorting from the beginning. If I had to sort all those, I wouldn't know what to do. I probably wouldn't.

I sort mine by lewd/not lewd/reaction images, then by character, then a catchall "misc" folder

I am kicking myself for not further sorting my misc folder by games or something, though
