You sit at the restaurant with your young son, he says he is hungry. You agree to get him dinner. You open up to the kids menu, your child is far to young for adult food. Chicken nugger stares at you from the page. You don’t understand. Your palms get sweaty and your son complains. He says he is hungry. Your mind strains, searching for an answer in a world of sweer potato and french fried. You try to order the chicken nugger, but you cannot. The words cannot escape your lips. Your son is hungry, he complains. The waitress stares at you, her head a spinning chicken nugger, her arms swinging french fried. Your son cries the tears of a chicken nugger-less child. In your mind you scream. It is raining sweer potato now, you have french fried engraved on your left temple and you do not understand. Your son weeps in the corner, he is starving. Starving for the chicken nugger.

Oh hell yes. I'll even do it with American eggs. No salmonella yet (not that salmonella's all that dangerous). The white isn't bad either, but it's just for mouthfeel; the yolk's where it's at.

A soft boiled egg with natto and natto sauce and mustard is wonderful because of the yolk.

Salmon - My favorite, it has a strong flavor and texturally has a nice "bite" to it.

Tuna - A subtle tuna flavor (very different from canned) with a dense and hearty texture.

Fatty Tuna - It literally melts in your mouth.

Eel - Another favorite. It's actually served barbecued instead of raw. Typically coated with a sweet barbecue sauce. Buttery in texture, highly fatty, sometimes with tiny bones that are easy to eat.

Salmon Roe - Each bite is hugely satisfying, the eggs pop in your mouth and release a burst of liquid that tastes like fish and the sea.

Egg - It might seem lame at first, but the sweet flavor and soft texture make for an excellent accompaniment to Eel or Salmon Roe.

Herring - Ridiculously strong flavor with a bitter aftertaste. Chase it with something sweet, like Eel.

Squid - Texturally fantastic; the flesh is chewy yet has a lot of "give." Unique, subtle taste.

Octopus - Surprisingly strong-flavored, extremely chewy.

It's that easy, whether or not a japanese person makes it for you isn't going to make it magically taste better. Tonkatsu is hardly representative of "Japanese cuisine."

Also, there's really no comparison of Japanese cuisine with other methods of cooking. The heart of traditional Japanese cuisine is the dashi, which takes less than an hour to make, including preparation.

Chinese cuisine on the other hand, relies heavily on its stock. Chinese stock making is a day-long ordeal. Ramen, which takes over a day to make, is Chinese in origin, not Japanese.

Maybe there are less of the restaurants, or aren't meant to fit as many people as the US ones. IIRC the French McDonald's (or maybe it was Starbucks) restaurants don't hold as many people as their American counterparts, instead opting to make the dining experience nicer by using more spacious designs and comfortable seating. The US ones I've been in are all mostly hard plastic benches wall to wall with a handful of tables. They remind me of a cafeteria.

Alternatively, there could have been a sale or serious lunch/dinner rush or something.

In the old days, in Japan, production date was printed to foods.
but the printing of the production date was prohibited,
and printing of the best-before date was require by interference
in domestic affairs from USA(for the reason why the printing
of the production date is disadvantageous to import goods during
the Clinton administration).
Until then, Japanese people judged by production date whether
it would be possible to eat the egg row.
Therefore It is set to be able to eat row for around two weeks
from born as the best-before date of the egg.

I've eaten raw eggs here in the US for over 15 years, never once been sick. I'm usually putting it directly on some rice, or at the bottom of a pint.

Foods imported from Portugal in the 16th century:

Tempura — so thoroughly adopted that its foreign roots are unknown to most people, including many Japanese. As such, it is considered washoku (和食, native food).
castella — sponge cake, originating in Nagasaki
Pan — bread, introduced by Portugal. (bread is pão in Portuguese.) Japanese bread crumbs, panko, have been popularized by cooking shows.

REMINDER THAT THE JAPANESE ONLY HAVE BREAD THANKS TO PORTUGAL.

I'm making my first attempt at Japanese food and I'm trying to make Okonomiyaki. One of the ingredients is supposedly okonomiyaki sauce. I couldn't find this in a "Japanese" supermarket nor could I find it in any other. Is this an essential ingredient? Is there a more common English name for it?

It's Otafuku/Okonomi Sauce. You can get it easily online from places like amazon.

There are recipes for homemade version as well, not sure how well it would taste though.
