I don't understand why people like anything "ironically." It sounds like a paper-thin deflection of negative stereotypes to justify liking something. There's no such thing as liking something "ironically." Either you like it, or you don't.

That said, the Beastie Boys are fucking incredible. Not only are they white boys that can keep up with black outfits, but they have heavy rep in the hip-hop community and beyond. Last I read, even Miles Davis is down with them. Listen to Paul's Boutique sometime.

I didn't know what denpa even was until much later, around 2006-2007. By that time I also had recently heard about MOSAIC.WAV and I was addicted to them, so my only reaction was, "well why not".

I started looking into it, that was also when I was learning Japanese and getting into eroge and otaku shit. And now here I am, completely obsessed with denpa and searching for songs and artists every day. I was glad and surprised to know that I wasn't alone in this boat when threads starting appearing here.

I also got to know J-Core along the way and the guys from Guhroovy, but that's another story. DJ SHARPNEL was/is a denpa fan too.

I would say that I might have heard one from an anime OP somewhere, but I didn't pay much attention to intro songs back then, and the only one that sticks out in my mind is Ika Musume's, which came out much later.
