11616945 No.11616945[DELETED]  [Reply] [Original]

Hey /jp/, I'm shitting up this board because moot is actually ripping people off, and /q/ is gone.

I bought a pass to take it easier with my posting, and had no issues for the first year. Recently though, moot has changed the way passes work, in that they're now included in bans. This means if you get a ban, then change your IP, your pass is used to ban you again for ban evasion for an additional 3 days.

This is fair enough, but it stacks. And if you happen to have a dynamic IP, your pass gets auto-reported again if it changes. Because my ISP is shitty, my internet disconnects at least once every 2 days, resulting in an IP change. Thus, I get auto-banned. Permanently. My pass is now utterly worthless, because it's not possible for me to go 3 days without changing IP.

I still have 11 months left on this stupid thing I can no longer use, and moot doesn't care. What the fuck am I supposed to do?

They have been recently making many changes to the way the ban system works.

Changes that are harmful to the users of the site, even people who don't ban evade. Malicious features is what I call them, and they have been adding malicious feature after malicious feature.

They auto-ban you if you use the same cookies from a banned IP address with a new address.

They added in the option in the ban form to ban trips/names. Mods have been using this VERY liberally now. There have been a very large amount of trips/names on auto-ban now since this feature was added in less than a month or so ago.

Like OP said, they know use 4chan passes to ban you.

I am sure they have revamped the way the entire report/ban system works behind the scenes so they can ban everyone and all their users faster with even less thought now.

The entire thing has just turned into a mess of shit. Not too long ago there was none of these malicious features, there wasn't 4chan gold accounts, the ban reasons were personally written rather than picked from a stencil, the janitors couldn't 15 minute ban, it was bearable. Now just a giant mess of shit.

So, this is your story:

1. You are banned for three days, while using a pass.
2. Three days pass, and your ban expires on your old IP.
3. You post normally without your pass, on a new IP.
4. You add your pass to the new IP you were already posting from, and you receive a new 3-day ban.

Is this correct?

If say I try to make a post, see I'm banned, change my address, and try to make that post again without hitting ctrl-shift-del and clearing everything from firefox, I am auto-banned for ban evasion.

As in it automatically bans you. Go ahead and post a link to the hidden wiki, a mother*ess link, or just go ahead and use the tripcode #trevor, that is what an auto-ban is. It has nothing to do with the staff seeing your posts, a human isn''t banning you.

It's amazing what moot still hasn't done to his site.

I'm waiting for the day when some news article reports moot has gone into business with a big partner, then a few days later there's an announcement like: ``Until further notice, /t/, /rs/, /e/, /h/, /d/, /u/ and /y/ have been removed from the site. This was my decision and it has nothing to do with my recent partnership with Google. You can read all about it in my latest news post, "4chan is Changing".''

this won't happen. no real company wants to get involved with 4chan at all. reddit is the big deal now and 4chan is the peanut gallery. there's ask me anythings with obama, celebrities, and everybody else famous on that site. 4chan is a has-been site and will only ever decline.

this is the reason why even if you're unhappy with 4chan remember moot is suffering even worse

Protip: Mods rubberstamp ban requests and leave it to the users to appeal bullshit bans.

If a ton of users start complaining about their bans the jannie that's submitting these ban requests gets in trouble. The mods never get in trouble.

cause 4chan (probably moot/staff) brainwashed people into hating it and the hivemind followed. that and i'm not sure if there's an anonymous feature on the site.

looking back i don't understand why people choose stupid stuff like ask.fm/tumblr/g+/random shit instead of making a reddit board.

Reddit gets a bunch of famous celebrities and musicians doing AMAs. It's pretty much the new 4chan in the same way 4chan was the new SA. I feel like there will never be a new thing with the "quality" 4chan/SA had, because of the way the internet has developed. I mean half a decade ago normal people thought you were a weirdo if you sprouted memes now it's pretty normal, but I don't know that's just me and I could be wrong. Only time will tell.

He wished 4chan a merry Christmas or said he spent Christmas browsing 4chan or something. Then I guess he and moot met up for PR or because moot is trying to get in bed with the company who controls W.K., and they did an "Ask Me Anything" on /mu/. He never really answered questions, he just tried his hardest to reinforce the idea that 4chan is the hippest counterculture website this side of the 'net!

But all this is really ironic because Andrew W.K. isn't real. He's a corporation-sponsored character created by someone using the name "Steev Mike". A few people in the thread asked about this, but obviously he ignored their questions.

What bothers me is how sanitary it has all become. I don't consider myself all that into "bad taste" humour, but I really fucking cringe when some other website now spouting catchphrases attracts controversy because a commenter dared to use the word "faggot". Of course, there are fashionably bad-taste memes, like the ones about sex or celebrities, but you can't say bad words or be too graphic any more. Something Awful, THE Something Awful now bans people for casually using the word "nigger" or "faggot". 4chan is slowly going the same way.
As a black homosexual I am deeply offended that these websites are trying to reinstate the offensiveness of these words.

i can't speak for the rest of reddit but the two boards i go to are higher quality per capita than 4chan ever was at anytime. cs:go/dota2 regularly have people from the industry/developers/professional players/best information.

reddit is way bigger than sa/4chan combined at their best form. it won't be going anywhere soon either. you can make your own board and you don't need to be under other losers thumbs like at sa/4chan.

If moot had just put up a donation button, I couldn't be happier. I might have even donated.

I had an argument with him on /q/ about this. He seems to think donating to 4chan = donating to him. He can't swallow his pride and accept that maybe people want to support the site and not Christopher Poole, because Wikipedia puts up pictures of Jimmy Wales for their donation drives (and they invented donations).

I'm sure he's made a lot more money this way, but adding premium features was the dumbest thing ever, and fuck anyone who supported his decision.
