I legitimately think this is actually paid Microsoft marketers on 4chan. People think it's crazy when you bring up the idea of companies paying people to spam 4chan, but I think they actually do. This has been spammed on a bunch of boards. If you stay on /g/ for a while you see everyday spam of products for certain companies that pretty much anyone on /g/ would think is shit, identical spam everyday, and it's either some loser that actually likes the "Microsoft Surface with Office Apps" (and refers to it like that) enough to actually spam it, or someone paid from Microsoft.

>>11604216
>Newest version of IE has better javascript performance than Firefox and chrome

I don't believe this bullshit for even a second.

>and ie supports tls 1.2 whereas firefox only just recently got 1.1

Firefox 24 has TLS 1.2 support, it's disabled by default because it can cause issues and it's not used much at all yet.

>IE also gives you more configuration ability, whereas the Mozilla and Google teams have been stripping out most config options or hiding them in about:config.

IE is proprietary software. It most definitely is not more customizable. Stuff is not ``hidden" in about:config, firefox is so unbelievably more configurable than IE I couldn't even begin to explain it, this claim is laughable.

IE doesn't support real addons, and is worse in pretty much every single way than Fifrefox/Gecko or Chromium/Webkit.

I find this hard to believe. I don't sysadmin, but I do believe Chrome would be more difficult to deploy, simply because they make automating installation of plugins fucking hard.
With Firefox all I had to do was extract the setup, stick some plugins into some directory, edit some file to change the default about:config preferences, and re-zip it with some special settings.
And blam, customized Firefox 22 with Adblock Plus, Adblock Plus Element Hiding Helper, HTTPS Everywhere and recommended about:config tweaks from logicalincrements prepacked into the installer.
I only did this because it would speed shit up every time anyone wanted me to format their laptops.

>> No.11604279

>>11604256
We dont allow any plugins for security reasons. IE has f12 developer tools, which is enough for most people.

Chrome and IE both obey group policies, which is a big deal as there are a number of settings that I'm required by auditors to set. Manually configuring or installing or updating each computer's Firefox instance is impossible because there are so many computers.

All you have to do on linux is just move the ~/.mozilla folder.

If you have your ~/.mozilla folder, you can have that same firefox experience on ANY machine running *nix just by moving it to it. It will boot up with all your same old add-ons and settings with no problem.

I think it's the same in Windows with a folder in %appdata%,

The user profile for firefox is stored in a random folder under appdata. as a workaround I could use login scripts to copy cnfig from a central share, but that's not true integration. You can configure near anything throug administrative templates in AD. There are some third party scripts to somewhat replicate this functionality, but having the enterprise rely on some unsupported and infrequently updated plugin is not viable either. We're beholder to PCI, ISO, NCUA, and other requirements so things are a little tied up.

They've been trying really hard for years with IE,too much bad rep I guess. I'm sure the browser is fine now because they have the best coders afterall.

It's really not hard to update firefox on even windows machines and of course keep all the same plugins/settings.

*nix with a package manager you could update Firefox on theoretically thousands of computers with one command.

I just don't like seeing a company be reliant on a proprietary vendor-lockin. If your company would crumble because of the loss of a proprietary piece of software you decided to become reliant upon, there's something wrong.

We don't run linux on workstations, just some infrastructure and auditing servers. Workstations need to be windows because we have to run certain programs that only work on windows and use certain websites that only work on ie. Also, we sell windows software so running a different OS wouldn't be viable. And like I said, we could hack together a workaround for firefox, but chrome and IE natively support the AD administraive templates. Hacking together network policies with startup batch scripts is just not best practice.

>Workstations need to be windows because we have to run certain programs that only work on windows and use certain websites that only work on ie.

The only sites that only work on IE are sites that artificially block everything but IE, even though they would work, or a site which uses ActiveX. (I have yet to ever see a website use ActiveX. You'd have to be retarded to design a website around ActiveX anyway.)

Your company built itself on a sheet of thin ice and vendor lock-ins, to the point where it's extremely inflexible. I understand because of this you have to use windows to work on that sheet of thin ice, I'm not trying to convince you to use anything else, just criticizing the chain of events that led to it. I feel like I have had this same exact discussion with you about IE and active directory before, actually I'm sure I have had this same exact discussion with you about it.

I hope if I ever get a job in a technical industry it's one where you don't have to touch windows, especially if it was for an extremely silly reason that makes no sense. I think I'd kill myself if I was expected to maintain windows systems for a living, I'd shoot my brains out as I set up IIS.

It's that. We have to transfer ACH files and such to other banks, transfer files to the federal reserve, etc, and you'd be surprised how many of them are activeX based or else are designed so horribly that the website is simply unusable on anything other than IE 6 (we use spoon.net, their desktops have 9 or 10), even if you do spoof the UA to match IE.
