Indeed it did! Too bad it's not cold enough for proper snow, so it just melted into nasty slush that is extremely unpleasant to cycle on.

Yeah that part bites, but think of it this way: in winter you don't have to care if your lightbulbs are efficient, since inefficiency just turns electricity into heat which you want anyway -> you can buy the cheap old-fashioned ones (Edison bulbs) that nobody's supposed to use anymore, in bulk, and multiple cheapo pole lamps -> affordably bright all the time and warmer in your place whenever you're home

Because in the Midwest, four to six months of sub-zero temps (100+ degree weather won't kill a healthy and hydrated person, a few minutes in -40 can), snow, wet ankles and feet from snow, filthy floors from salt and slush, dead skeletons of trees, a lifeless world of gray, hurting your back digging out of your front door day after day, vehicle problems, sliding off the road into ditches, destroyed roads leading to perpetual construction projects to repair the damage, cracked and bleeding lips from dry air, having to carry a coat around, short and usually overcast days... ...it tends to make one dislike winter.

I've lived in the northern USA nearly all my life. Sure, winter brings its own set of problems, but I really think it's wonderful!

Yes, I have to start my car every now and again to make sure the battery doesn't die. Yes, I have to be aware of weather and road conditions more than normal to not drive into a ditch. Yes, I have to do some snow shoveling to ensure I can get around my property more easily. But you know what? It's all worth it to enjoy the beauty of winter!

I love feeling the frigid cold against my skin as my body tries to combat the weather!

I love the feeling of encasing myself in blankets late at night and creating my own little warm sanctuary against the elements!

I love the crunch of the snow beneath my feet, so soft and delicate!

I love the short and overcast days, for the clouds are so beautiful in the evening sky!

I love the sound and spectacle of slush and water being kicked up by cars on the road! It's like my own personal water park! And how impressive it is watching how high that liquid can go!

Oh, and to step into the woodland and see the soft powder entombing the trees and the ground! It's really beautiful, seeing the snow caking the pine trees, the blanket of unblemished white across the ground!

And when it actually snows, it feels so good! The gentle nuzzling of the snowflakes in your hair, melting into water giving you slightly damp hair as you go about your day

Ahh, I could go on all day. I really, really love winter!

40 below is a common occurrence where you live? Are you sure you live in the midwest and not the rockies? 20 below WITH wind chill is a rarity. And even then, there's plenty of ways to bundle up for the winter. I absolutely love being in a big cosy coat.

>dead skeletons of trees, a lifeless world of gray
Not all of us can appreciate the beauty of the world, I guess. Winter landscapes have a sort of quiet serenity that I miss when spring comes around.

There's so much fucking snow some times. It never gets very deep, the problem is that it's just fucking there. Although there were a few years where I was nearly trapped in my neighborhood thanks to all of the fallen trees. It's relaxing though. Not really the snow itself, but driving around seeing all the people that get stuck in it. I help them sometimes, but most times I just watch. Also I think I'm starting to get tired of the cold. It was different 5 years ago. Cold had so little importance to me that I could've gone out naked most days. Most I'd end up with was cold fingers and feet.
