In the art world, there's not a lot to gain from making a VN. They could make a lot more money and gain a lot more popularity from other things for less effort and with less time wasted. Even putting together an art book would be less work, probably net them more money and would boom their popularity more than a VN could.

This is why wannabes are only interested in making VNs. Wannabes wish they were their Japanese entertainment.

I'm sure exceptions exist somewhere, it's just highly unlikely. When you draw that good there are so many ways to tell a story, that I just don't see them falling back on an unpopular media like visual novels. Especially since artists are extremely poor and money hungry most of the time and will only do things to get themselves more profit or popularity.

They would have to be very passionate about visual novels and throw away the idea of profit. In which case, those would be your exceptions. I'm fairly certain most people would just say it's easier to make a comic if they were going to go down that route though.

That's one of the things I like about art, it's one of the few fields where the amount of money earned is directly proportional to the quality of your work. If you're poor, then you're not talented. Simple as that. There are no excuses, it's the 21st century and you can broadcast your work to millions through the internet, and if you're good enough people will notice and hire you.

However I still agree with your original point. Talented artists are too busy to work for free on Ren'py games

Oh sorry, that sentence was speaking generally about artists not just the talented ones. Though, I'm sure every artist, even the talented ones, have been at the starving artist stage at some point and have no desire to go back to it. Some artists also sell themselves short, but you would probably see that more with artists that aren't top tier though.

I worded it poorly, but financials are a huge debate in the art community and a big deal for any artist, is all I was saying. And those who have the ball rolling aren't going to put on their brakes unless they think it's going to be worth it in the long run.

High quality paintings take a lot of time to make. Some artists can spend up to months per piece of high quality artwork if they get caught up in details and realism. You'd need an artist who could make amazing speedpaintings to curb the time problem. Mainly because of how many images a VN has. Especially if said artist doesn't have anyone helping him.
