Has the best time of Touhou already past?

The quality of the art has improved dramatically over the years, but are the stories better? I remember the early stuff I used to download off the Wikia, like Visionnerz, Winter Scenery, Personal Color... the stuff from roughly 2004-2006. This was back before the 'fanon' was established... these were some of the doujinka who made what we recognize today as fanon.

I don't know. It feels like with everything else, it seems that once something gets too big, it loses its heart.

Or you're digging too deeply into fanon shit.

To be honest I think the turning point was 2002-2003. The first Windows game was released, 4chan was founded, Touhou was pretty much over by that point. All the fans I knew stopped caring about it, and now it actually wouldn't surprise me if I'm the only pre-Windows Touhou fan still around.

Does anyone in /jp/ actually read all those comics? For a while I had read everything that was translated but for the last year or so I haven't really followed.

I get the notion that even /jp/'s secondary scum don't even read most of that stuff.

Yes, secondary scum.

HRtP is the only good Touhou, the rest just went downhill from there.

There is still just as much shit as there was years ago.

You all sound like you're not allowed to like classics once the series move forward. If Touhou wouldn't continue to grow, we wouldn't have it as it is today.

And 2004? Wasn't Touhou rather obscure by that point, let alone the PC-98 era. I though Touhou gained it's massive popularity around the release of MoF, which was out by the point the vast majority of fans got into the series, at least in the west.

The original secondary thing is all about how you're a primary if you play the games because you like shmups blah blah blah (though I doubt most long-term shmup fans would enjoy Touhou too much, I think that's part of the joke).

Go open your kopipe folder and reread that pasta. Someone who actually reads the comics and cares about the characters and stuff is more likely to be a secondary.

You have missed the joke. Touhou started getting popular around 2006-2007 when the Locker Room Productions flash animations set to IOSYS songs went viral.

you are supposed to have picked your favourites by now. i only follow certain authors like fuantei or zounose, besides the official manga

There's a lot of creative stuff happening on Tumblr and Facebook but you're too "elitist" to pay any attention to it.

>> No.11588024

The memes spawning from PoFV ruined everything about touhou.
