I'm really not liking any of the DDC music.
It somehow managed to be worse than TD's, which only had a few good songs.

DDC's music was pretty good overall. it's not any better than TD's, but still the best thing about the game (maybe not saying much).

I like the majority of musics in DDC.
Especially tsukumo sister's theme, stage 5 theme, Shinmyoumaru's theme, and Raiko's theme

I really like the Raiko's theme.
It looks like it has alot of remix potential too.

Desire Drive from TD might be my favorite song from recent Touhou. So yeah, TD has a chunck of good ones.

TD had the best bgm.
But DDC dosnt come too far either, it got a bunch of great themes like Stage 4 and 5, Little princess, Reverse ideology, Raiko and Sekibanki theme

It doesn't seem to fit her character, but I agree, it's very good. I also really liked Magical Storm from DDC.

The one that always sticks out in my mind as a favorite title theme is actually SA's, probably in part due to SA being the first core Touhou game I'd ever played. Though, IN's is pretty great, too, if only for the piano and that distinct, blaring keyboard. I also like TD's for just how cool it sounds.

I'd be surprised if anybody genuinely likes EoSD's title theme, though.

I've been listening to this a lot lately for some reason.
It just sort of grew on me.

Entire MoF from stage 4 onward. It's just one big stream of awesomeness, from calm yet moving theme when climbing a waterfall, through the sudden rush of energy at Aya, the wonderful atmosphere in stage 5, the serious mood when fighting Sanae, one breathless minute at the final stage and the climax when Kanako appears with a god-worthy theme. No soundtrack compares.

Welp, stage 1 theme is pretty nostalgic and stage 2 is an ear worm. Really, no mediocre themes except for maybe Nitori and Suwako's. Hell, the title theme is serious and badass for Touhou.

Not including PC-98 because I'm not as familiar with those games, and only two of them had regular six stage layouts anyway.
Title: UFO. It's just so distinct and fun. The first song that comes to mind when I think of a Touhou Title theme.
Stage 1: SA. It really captures the feeling of traveling through an expansive dark cavern, starting an adventure through the underground. Somehow, it manages to be both a brilliant underground theme, but somehow lighthearted and fun at the same time.
Stage 1 Boss: PCB. I don't love this because it's a good theme for Letty, but because it's such a good stage 1 boss theme. It's not at all serious, a good first boss battle theme in a snow coated setting.
Stage 2: MoF. It's just a fun theme, and it works really well with everybody's favorite god of misfortune.
Stage 2 Boss: EoSD. I know this song gets too much love as it is, but I just can't help but enjoy beloved tomboyish girl's theme. Besides it was one of the first Touhou songs I listened to, so it has a certain bit of nostalgia going for it as well.
Stage 3: SA. It just fits incredibly well with chasing a party animal through the streets. It's incredibly festive, and I really like that quality in this song.
Stage 3 boss: TD. I just really like the song, I suppose. It's kind of odd that it ended up more mummy like than zombie like, but for some reason it's still a fitting theme.
Stage 4: MoF. This was a tough one, but I had to go with MoF. Not much to say about this one. It's just a nice, relaxing song for flying up a waterfall. I little ironic, considering how intense the stage gets, but it's beautiful none the less.
Stage 4 Boss: PCB. While I like PCB's first boss theme for it fitting the role of first boss theme well, I like it's Stage 4 boss theme for the opposite reason. A cacophony of blaring instruments fits perfectly with a hectic fight with three ghostly musicians. Probably the most fitting character theme in the entire series.
This ended up way too long.

Stage 5: MoF. I feel bad for putting another MoF song here, but it just had so many good stage themes. This song doesn't get enough love, I think, and is one of the most emotional songs in the series. It's very atmospheric, and quite beautiful, in a way.
Stage 5 Boss: PCB. It's weird that PCB and MoF keep dominating this list, since I don't consider either my favorites overall. None the less, I think this is a really cool theme. I just love that slow motion dodging to this soundtrack.
Stage 6: DDC. I think this song makes a perfect prelude to the encounter with the kobito behind the incident. It's a perfect song for building up tension before the grand finale.
Stage 6 Boss: This is really tough. I could see myself arguing in favor of most final boss themes being the greatest, Zun just does such an outstanding job with most of them. But I have to go with PCB. Just everything about it is so good. From how solemnly it starts, to the sudden switch in tone during her final attack. It's very ethereal, which fits well with ghost princess, I suppose.
Extra Stage: EoSD. It's a fun, intense, arcade-esque theme, perfect for an extra stage. But I think what really gets me is how the motif suddenly changes when Patchouli enters. It just works so well, I love it.
Extra Stage Boss: Another tough one, but I think I'll go with IN. It's an intense theme, but at the same time it carries a melancholic tone. Perfect for an immortal.

Well shit, that's one of my favorite stage songs.
Which is one of the reasons why I was especially thrilled by DDC stage 3...the other reason was because Kagerou seemed like she was swaying to its rhythm.


What are your favorite CD originals/retouches? (Besides Greenwich in the Sky, Necrophantasia and Wing God Girl full, everybody already knows they're the greatest things to have befallen mankind since the creation of Alice Margatroid.)

I personally like Luna's theme; I think ZUN generally depicted the fairies pretty well in their songs.

As for retouches, I really liked Doll Judgement, but I might perhaps be biased...
Some of the retouches aren't as good as their originals though, I accuse mainly Chinese Tea (completely different) and Riverside View (can't unhear second trumpet).

I've been really enjoying the stage 5 theme in TD recently. I like alot of the Stage 5 themes from other games too.
