I didn't realize Touhou books get released in Chinese.

I thought ZUN is reluctant to let other people's touch his writing, but apparently not. So what's stopping anyone from doing the same for English?

>> No.11567571

Because the chinese have no morals when it comes to intellectual property and these are probably reprints being resold.

who would buy the books in english?

That was my first thought too, but it's from Taiwan and it has ISBN and everything. No way it's illegal.

there are no kanji in english

It isn't profitable.
You can't expect to make money selling Touhou manga in any of the Western countries. The people who would want to buy Touhou books probably already know Japanese and would rather buy Japanese volumes.

>I thought ZUN is reluctant to let other people's touch his writing
Yeah, as I recall ZUN said that he doesn't translate things because he just doesn't know the language and wants things to be in his own words. Mystery about the Chinese then.

>So what's stopping anyone from doing the same for English?
He did say on his twitter that he wanted to learn English and thinks it's time to go international. So there's some hope for us.

Does profit really factor that much into things? Because ZUN could be making a whole lot more money than he is now, but doesn't.

It's more of ZUN's hobby - he owns a brewery now if I'm not mistaken.

It's not even Touhou themed as far as I know - ZUN does the least amount of profit milking to his series I've ever seen for any series.

>> No.11567762

>>11567757
You got that backwards. He doesn't "own a brewery", he just brews beer as a hobby. Touhou is the main source of his income.

>> No.11567767

>>11567762

He gets most of his money from touhou, but he could make 30x more money off it quite easily - he knows about steam and thinks it's a good platform, and he'd get greenlighted faster than instantly, but doesn't put the games on there.

He's not completely blind to the money. He's licensed out Touhou characters before, for games and other big name merchandise. He just doesn't want to completely sell out his doujin cred by selling to the filthy gaijins.
