His argument is basically "Japanese games are too hard, why do they expect me to learn how to play, why can't they all just throw me into the action and let me steamroll easy enemies."
Guys like him are the reason modern games don't require as much skill and execution, so they can pander to casuals like him who are too assed to bother learning and just want to watch pretty cinematic explosions.

Thats not exactly what he is saying, though some of his points do say that.

Another reason is that the game is vastly different from the other shmups and how there is hardly any other shmups out there that is different. It is either a bullet hell or nothing at all.

Plus that game was made in like 95 so it is hardly modern at all. If anything it was ahead of it's time.
